MMOs and games in general are constantly changing. New graphics, new engines, new capabilities...with all that on the table, what do you guys think is next for MMOs? What would you consider new and exciting?

Good graphics and visuals are great but for me, I'd prefer a game with great fun factor and replayability. Smooth gameplay and good servers are a must too. And the lore or story of the game should be spot on and witty.

Well, I don't know about anyone else here, but I was really looking forward to a decent MegaTen MMO. I wasn't very impressed with what we got. Same with the World of Darkness MMO. The Secret World is as close as we're ever going to get, I think. I'd love to see more games in that vein.

I think incorporating some sort of Kinect movements into MMO's would be pretty decent to try. So our own movements would actually affect the combat in the game. Of course, better graphics and better gameplay in MMO's is a necessity for the genre to continue to advance. Other than that, I think just new story ideas and unique game concepts are what we need.

What's next is really 3-D gaming which will be a whole new level in my opinion. We do have 3-D screens with the technology now but it is not as game-friendly as it should be. I guess it will be a couple of years more before we enjoy 3-D gaming to the fullest.

I am with you on this one. Sure, graphics are important but in the end the best MMO's are the ones with a great gameplay and fun the play. I'm not saying we should ignore visuals, no, but it shouldn't be the main focus on a game.

Yep, graphics should at least be of decent quality just so we could enjoy the game more. But IMO it is really the storyline and gameplay that will get gamers hooked. Look at Minecraft, blocky graphics but it has millions of followers and the like.

Graphics definitely don't make up for substance. They help, sure, but they can't replace good mechanics. You can dress up a good game. Not so for a bad one.

Three D gaming would be off the charts for me and as Zillah mentioned, improving the substance and style of the game. Some of the story lines get trite and repetitive at times. Game makers need to refresh and reload.

I think we rely too much on graphics now. So many games have scaled graphics over substance, and I think we've suffered for it. I used to be able to find a number of games that stayed with me and I truly enjoyed. Now, they're remarkably forgettable.

More MMO's with story. I really want my mmo's to have better lore so I can feel something for the world I'm interacting with.

I am thinking about a helmet with 3D screens to cover your face entirely. So basically you see a 3D world all around you instead of just a "world" smaller than your computer screen.

Has anyone watched the anime called .Hack Sign?
It's about a fiction story of a MMORPG player's consciousness got trapped inside the game with no way to log out. The game apparent has some kind of interface directly with the players' brains... That would be the next step after the 3D screens all around your face lol.

MMOs with a better plot. Plenty of games these days include some sort of storyline only to establish lore and weak motivations for the characters. It can get bland after a while when you realize that grinding on monsters has little purpose in the grand scheme of things. I like Guild War's 2 approach with its story, but I think it can still be greatly improved.

I'm just waiting until they release a non messed up revival of Star Wars Galaxies. That's the best MMO of all time in my opinion. It had the perfect amount of player made content and was a great experience overall.
