the Db gives good stats for a cheap item meaning that its worth picking one up early game or even mid game if you lack funds for a bigger item just to keep you strong as the game progresses

It gives a solid boost early game. I personally hate it, since it's a waste of essentially 600g, so I never do it. Make Doran's build into something and I'll start doing this.

I see it as taking a bit of a gamble. It allows you to get relatively good stats early on, which can help you get the upper hand on a lane ensuring a greater farm or even an early kill. However, if you do not maximize this advantage you will quickly fall behind, as the dorians do not make any better items, they need to be sold at a loss.

If you are very familiar with a character, and are able to play aggressive yet safe, then it may pay off, but the risks can be high.

Doran's Blade is an absolutely key item. At the start of the game, it's an all-in choice, letting you push yourself to get a kill right off the bat without as much risk as the Elixir of Fortitude. It doesn't give as reliable sustain as a few health potions, though, and so you need to farm the wave with it to regain health while zoning your enemies fairly well. If you're unskilled, boots+potions is generally better.

More Doran's Blades is also a strategy if you're losing lane. Think of them in that case as a bandaid for gear difference. They allow the worse off player to quickly play catch up in lane, while sacrificing their teamfighting power. Tying, or even winning your lane is well worth the loss, and it's almost always the correct choice if you are far enough behind that a good gank from the jungle can't fix it.

Doran Blade is good for starting out obviously. When I play as adc I pick livesteal runes and doran and my sustain is huge during lanning. I think that is a better option then buying potions. Too bad doran can't be build into anything else tho.

I've seen people on the championshit rushing 3-4 dorans, just to get fed. And once they're fed they just switch over to something normal. The whole purpose of it is to get fed, if you fail - you'll throw the game...

It's cheap and gives good stats for early game. Obviously, the longer the game goes the more useless it becomes. For example, at level 1 it is very strong, but as it costs 475, you'll have no money for potions and therefore it's only worth buying if you have lifesteal runes.

Well I believe the doran's blade is mostly for squishy attack damage carry's. Since it provides a little bit of health, attack damage and lifesteal for adc's that are generally very low on health early game. I buy it when I play Graves because, I feel he needs to be a somewhat tanky carry, I also buy it with twitch since he is very squishy when the game starts off. However, I sell the blade when I get my defensive item. I think the item perfectly suits the role since it is not so op that it can be built into something, but it gives you a small early game advantage.

For Season 3, most people prefer to only buy Doran's Blade when they have lifesteal Quints for the sustain in lane. But in general, it is a solid item because of all its stats(HP, AD, sustain) for a very low price compared to anything else. The downside is it doesn't build into anything.

The way that I see it, the main reason to get the Dorans items is that they tend to give the highest boost for the buck. Selling them later does mean that you lose some money, but they're kind of a minor snowball item. If you buy one, it usually means that you're looking to win your lane and get far enough ahead that even selling them off and buying something else still leaves you ahead.

The edge that those items can give you in trades and skirmishes early can make the difference between winning and losing your lane.

Doran's Blade is one the most cost efficient items for the stats that it gives. For almost all AD laners, particularly ADCs, there is no starting combination that gives you the best combination of damage and sustain.
The reason you see pros buying multiple Blades is just again, it gives you so much for so little gold. If you can't afford a Vampiric Scepter or something better, you may as well buy another Doran's Blade so that you're stronger, tankier, and have more sustain. This game is all about what happens in laning phase. So you need to do whatever it takes to win it, even if you lose a few gold in the process.

Considering it's price, it has pretty good stats. I don't usually buy 2, but if you lack gold and need a quick boost, DB is what you're looking for.

After the preseason changes, I find myself buying Doran's Blade a lot less now. Since you can get Longsword and 3 pots now, I tend to prefer that start because it's plenty of sustain, and longsword actually builds into useful items. Doran's Blade was nerfed in terms of damage, but it costs less allowing you grab a pot with it, so it's still a decent start, especially if you're going to be aggressive in lane with trades and what not. I still pick up Doran's Blade when I back and can't afford something better though.

It's cheap and has good stats, plus it provides you with an advantage. If you buy them at the start and start winning the lane, great, the purchase was successful if that doesn't happen, you just lost a lot of gold buying it.

It's good to take because it gives an advantage over the enemy laner and if you're good enough to use that advantage against him effectively it will pay off.
