In general, an MMORPG has no end. It just consists of continually leveling up, making yourself stronger, gathering items, equipment, armor, weapons, taking on quests, communicating with other players... It goes on and on. It does not end. So if an MMO has no end, when do you completely stop playing it?

The easiest way to know when to stop playing a MMORPG is simple. You just have to play until you bored.

I stop playing when there's little to do in the game, in other words when you have seen it all. Sometimes a good band of friends in your guild keeps you playing for ages though and this happened to me so I still play a couple games just to meet friends and do some raiding and what not.

quite frankly: you stop when you have something else to do which keeps you more entertained.

I end up quitting MMOs when I find more interesting ones rather than the one I've been playing for forever.

When you start getting online to just talk to your friends, is in my opinion, when you should really move on. I mean, you can add your friends on Facebook or Skype, but if you're still paying that $5 a month just to get on and do nothing, I think it's time to stop.

I think its time to give em up is when you no longer have your priorities straight otherwise I don't think it matters to much.

Well MMORPGs are a nice distraction when you don't have a lot of things on your plate or whenever you want to kill time. When these situations don't apply, you can stop playing the game.

I stopped playing MMORPGs usually when I find something else to hold my interest. The first MMORPG I played was RuneScape. I ended up logging over 127 days onto that game over the space of 4-5 years. I have to say, that the only real reason why I quit was because my account got screwed over. Needless to say, that I wasn't exactly motivated to play anymore.

I'm a little different than most people. Where most people see grinding as a chore, I see it as a way to get ahead of everyone. So I really didn't mind being bored, or feeling like everything was a chore. That kinda made the game better if you ask me.

Man, RuneScape nostalgia really kicks in every now and then. It's not exactly the best game, but it certainly brings back memories. Saw a lot of friends leave, and it all seemed really sad after a while.

tldr: MMORPGs will eventually force you out sooner or later!

You stop playing an MMORPG when you are no longer having fun with friends or can no longer play with people. If it starts becoming more of a solo RPG kind of thing, imho it's time to find something else. (at least for me!)

You stop playing an MMO when you get frustrated more often than you feel the sense of achievement and the fun you're supposed to be having.

You stop playing an MMO when your partner threatens to leave you if you don't stop playing so many games. Or you don't stop. My personal opinion is keep on gaming, but it's all up to you.

You stop playing and MMO when something better comes along.

You stop playing it when the servers go offline or you die.

"When you get bored" is the definitive answer that sums it up nicely. I don't think you ever really "give up" an MMORPG, especially if it's one you've invested a lot of time in. Unless the devs completely give up on it and no private servers exist, chances are you'll keep coming back one day, until you get bored again.

    Circle of life and all.

The real sign to stop playing for me is when I see myself logging in again and again grudgingly just so that I can comlete some daily achievements or something like that, call it a day and log out out of boredom. It's just draining and counterproductive when an MMO is no longer fun to you, all your friends have left, and you are still hanging there, trying to relive it's past glory.

I quit when I get bored with it. This happens more and more often as most MMOs are the same, and the last two expansions for WoW have followed with identical quets and questlines.

Like most people say, "when you get bored" is the best way to put it. For me, I guess it's when you feel that it's no longer fun, but that it is simply just a tedious job. Either that, or when you get screwed over by something (i.e. scams, crashing and losing rare items). Though, I've often quit MMORPGs when the community has something you're completely sick of dealing with, which makes the game a whole ton more frustrating. Of course, like erronousRogue put it, typically, you will come back eventually, due to the amount of time/money you invested in the game, which makes it so hard to quit in the first place.

The main times I stop playing a game is when my friends stop playing. (Or if the game's just bad).
If I've got friends to play with, I'll probably keep playing a game indefinitely.

When you stop being social outside of the game. It's not healthy to continue playing and not hang out with friends and do things outside your house. It's just not healthy.

You stop playing when you either get bored, too angry or you realize that you're spending WAY too much time on the game.

I stop playing it when it starts to feel like a job. I've experienced this in multiple games, I think it's just burnout of the game itself.

When you have no competition :)) I usually set a high aim, like being in top 10 or something like that, so there is no reason for me to give up. I usually quit when the game changes in a manner that I don't like, such as introducing OP items for premium users which usually sucks.

I usually stop playing an MMO whenever it feels more like a grindy job than a game. I've yet to play an MMO that keeps me interested and stays consistently fun throughout the entire game. I think the whole leveling process of gaining exp just makes it feel like this. They need a way to keep quests fresh instead of just kill X boars or bring X item to Y person.
