When a game is written and is able to stick it out and gain a fan base, content expands, the budget expands and thing invariable have to change.

Do you prefer the developers focus on improved aesthetics like better graphics, animations, sounds and other things like that or do you prefer that they focus more on the storyline?

While it may be impossible to spend 100% of the effort on one aspect, the developers do make decisions on how resources are spent.

For MMORPG? I think it's better for MMORPG if the developers focus more on the visual part while think of new gameplay mode, new quests, new classes, new maps, and try to make sure the game is well-balanced in terms of paid users and users who play it without spend much.

And usually introducing new features or quests will come together with new storyline as well, so I don't think the story aspect should be totally neglected, they could at least make it interesting enough to tie into the newer quests, classes, or maps.

Definitely the storyline and diversity part. They need to focus on making the game different. Minecraft doesn't have STUNNING visuals, but is one of the best selling games of all time.

    Gameplay/storyline>graphics.
To be honest all the games that have great visual graphics kinda suck. Good example is TERA. The game looks great, but generally I don't enjoy playing it that much.
Another good example is Runescape. The game has been leader in the MMORPG industry for years and will continue.

I think Pvp would be one of the biggest factors for me. I don't want to level up a character just so I can kill more mobs or sit around in town to chat.

Story. You can have really good games that aren't big on graphics, but if your story is awful then that game isn't going to do well. The gameplay aspect is way more important. Just take Dragon Age 2, the graphics and combat were certainly flashier, but he story/world didn't really impress.

The purpose of a game is to have fun. Everything else are bonuses.

With that said: Game play > story > visuals/music/sound. I've been playing electronic games since the early 1980's and went from crappy hand held games where you try to avoid crows that flew horizontally across the screen, while you dodged them in your hot air balloon, all the way to modern games on PC and consoles today.

I've played so many electronic games in the last 30 something years that I can tell you with 100% certainty that if a game has the coolest effects, most beautiful visuals and fantastic music but the game play sucks donkey balls, I will uninstall it and never play it again.

In a MMORPG, I would like them to increase the quests and gameplay. I don't care about graphics, I have other games for that. Just expand the storyline and make me play as long as possible without being bored.

While I agree with the posts above, I think fixing bugs/glitches and hack prevention should be the top priority. We can have all these improvements, but if hacks and bug abuse is rampant then your gaming experience will still be ruined. Just like the never-ending updates of anti-virus, anti-hack programs like Hack Shield must keep up with newly discovered hacks as cheaters will always find ways to bypass the game's design.

All I want is more content. I am paying 15$ a month for your game. You better not make it short.

That's sort of a give in though. Of course, fixing bugs and hacks and such should be a top priority. That doesn't mean they should not focus on keeping content fresh and balanced just to focus on fixing bugs.

Fresh Content. More then anything. Fresh Content. Not enough MMO's keep up with that demand for fresh content and it's really annoying.

I'd rather them expand on the contents by including more quests, gears, and stuff. If the game looks good already, I don't want them to waste budget and time on the graphics. One very important thing they need to do, focus more on fixing the glitches and bugs.

Definitely story line. A good DLC is or expansion pack featuring an awesome new story twist to the main one is always preferable to some new shiny graphics in my opinion. A good example for this would be the Dawnguard expansion to Skyrim, which added a very nice questline. Or the 4 add-ons to Fallout: New Vegas, which had really good story additions to the game, which in some cases were even better then the New Vegas main quest.
