Which is more useful for PvP: Apothacary or Survivalist?

35 adventure level and I just started the three gathering profs to make some money. I thought I could take cooking (survivalist? not logged in) and one other prof. but it's telling me I need to un-learn one first. So:

    1. am I correct in thinking cooking is a major skill so can't be kept along with the gathering ones? and

    2. Are either Apoth. or Cooking good for PvP? The foods I've tried so far with buffs expire if you die

Survival does not count towards your trade skill limit. Everyone can learn it. The higher end foods are pretty good and I found cheap to make. So even if you die you can make more. I think there is also an achievement or leaderboard stat that follows how many food items you eat.

Apothecary is amazing, and i wish i'd taken it. Thankfully someone was kind enough to dump all his extra potions while levelling on me, and they've turned a huge number of PvP battles in my favour. At 53, i have a potion which can absorb around 7.5k damage -- which is pretty insane. Survival, however, is mostly useless -- especially in PvP. It's nice for topping your HP back up if you're unlucky enough to be without a healer, but +23 spellpower and 200ish health is completely insignificant in a warfront (and just about everywhere)
