After playing through Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas again, I've been thinking about other cities that would make for a really good Fallout game. Personally, I think New York City would be awesome, though very big - the different boroughs and neighborhoods are so diverse and would be a great playground for shooting up supermutants and ghouls. I also think that someplace overseas would be interesting; fighting through London or Paris would be awesome. I think it's important to have a recognizable city. Knowing what Vegas looked like and recognizing landmarks added a really interesting level to F:NV for me. What do you guys think? Where would you like to see a future Fallout game?
Columbus Ohio would be interesting, there's a lot of rivers and interesting architecture. Youngstown would be too easy to do, it's pretty pot-apocalyptic already.
New York or Texas would be pretty cool. New York would be good for the city buildings and it would be cool having a post apocalyptic urban area. Texas would be good for the sunny desert landscapes. California would be good too, but it seems like it's used in almost every video game.
Outside the US I think Eastern Europe would be pretty cool, the landscapes are very iconic and there's a lot of history. If for the US I'd have to go with New York City as well though just for the potential of an even bigger Fallout!
Europe would be cool. They'd have to figure a way to bounce around a few cities though. I'd want to see how ALL of Europe turned out. San Francisco would be cool as well, walking the hills and seeing all the iconic landmarks. What about a snowy backdrop? Somewhere up north would be a nice contrast to the desolate desert the last two were.
You don't always have to put everything into the same game. Snow does sound amazing, you mix that with the whole Europe idea and it could be somewhere in Scandinavia. That would give it a very different feel.
Would LOVE to see Boston or Los Angeles -- though, San Francisco I also think would be amazing, with the way it's set up. Ruins of that street section on Lombard would be fun to explore -- and think of the dungeon they'd turn Alcatraz into! I'm practically drooling just thinking about it. Especially when you consider that Oakland, one of the US' most dangerous cities, is right on the outskirts. It practically writes itself. Think of all the mirelurks!
The setting should be outside of the USA. I can see it happening in Japan to some degree. I'm just tired of all these USA based locations. If the plot isn't good then it just kinda gets tired.
Let's see, the Western setting was nice in NV but I prefer the setting of Fallout 3. Massive buildings torn down to rubble. Yeah, I'd like to see another giant city or something. Maybe New York, Seattle, Chicago, something like that. Maybe even a new country like Paris or something but I doubt that will ever happen.
I've been thinking either Chicago or San Francisco. I just love city settings and roaming the Capital Wasteland was a lot more fun for me than the Mojave Desert (there's nothing to do! It's a freaking desert! Just sand!). I love going through demolished buildings and shops and finding familiar landmarks etc. San Francisco could be an interesting and versatile setting, I think. Others have suggested Europe or any other location outside the US. Do they have Vaults outside the US? Gotta have Vaults (I love Vaults). Maybe a spin-off game for a non-US setting? For me, the American setting and aspects are a big part of the whole Fallout experience.
The vault point is a good one. Apparently it was a US government programs so while all of the official ones would be in the USA, it would be more than imaginable for them to have built a few secret ones in other countries too. (seeing as they weren't just for protection against a nuclear strike)
Didn't they already say that it was going to be in and around Boston? Not 'officially' maybe, as Bethesda never give anything away before they are good and ready - but its been heavily rumoured, and come to be accepted as 'fact' by plenty of journalists and websites. Either way, the place I'd like to see a future Fallout game is London. Not just because I'm a Brit, but because there are so many iconic locations there that would look cool in a post-apocalypic setting.
I would like to see the parts where the bombs and missiles hit the most. It has been awhile, but there was a mention of some massive crater full of radiation. Mind you, I would prefer it that they made it so it's somewhat multi-region or at least multi-cities.
I am really looking forward to seeing a Hollywood type area. I think an apocalyptic Hollywood would be a lot of fun to explore and loot. But of course it should have some secluded areas and beaches. From what I hear though it might be in Boston or San Francisco.
San Francisco. It's odd location and varied, hilly landscape would be absolutely great but they'd have to improve the leg tracking so you don't have floating feet syndrome all the time.
before i even saw any responses i thought to myself nyc! kind of like an i am legend scenario. either way i do not care where it is as long as we get another fallout game!
Well I know Movies and other video games have basically turned it into a cliche, but I'd love to see a Post-Apocolyptic New York. That would be boss.
