Which RAM memory modules are appropriate for gaming?

I have seen a lot of types, speeds and presentations. From the most simple tiny cards to the ones with integrated heat sinks and cool packaging. The thing is, which memory will make the cut for intensive, heavy duty use like gaming?

Regular DDR3 1600mhz is fine for gaming at the moment. More expensive DDR3 2200mhz has approximately 0% impact on gaming as it might only increase your frames by 1 if you're lucky. An exception to this rule is if you are using an APU as more speed can actually boost its performance quite a bit. DDR4 is also not viable yet as games are still not optimized to use them yet and they are also quite expensive at the moment. Currently, I would suggest for you to get around 8 to 12 gigabytes of DDR3 1600mhz RAM as it is cheap and very reliable for gaming.

coolyfrost hit the nail on the head. You really will have no issues with DDR3-1600. To my knowledge, there's very minimal difference between the different RAM speeds, especially when compared to how much additional money you're paying for the minimal difference.

Regular RAMs will do the trick. But, you may want to go for Corsair sticks. They work well. Also, make sure you google for compatibility, because some RAMs may not work with your device, its better to be safe than sorry.

Yes Corsair Vengeance RAM is usually the way to go. Another thing to note is that you can actually put RAM that has different speeds and if they are compatible the stick with the highest clock speed will down clock to the one with the lowest. Just some food for thought in case you wanted have some extra RAM stick laying around.

There isn't a specific brand that is best. Just use the best specs your computer supports at the best price. Also, there isn't better ram specifically for gaming.
