Which sort of MMO world do you feel you'd like seeing come to reality?

Something has hit me recently about how current MMO's are designed, world-wise. There may be differences in art style or gameplay, but the design of the game world itself is fairly consistent across almost every MMO out there.
    - For the most part, very flat maps, very little verticality.
    - Large outdoor areas, usually in a nature setting, either zoned or continuous, mostly 'boxy' and very 'gamey' (obvious quest and hunting areas, as well as quest hubs)
    - Almost always either fantasy or scifi in setting (or a combination of both)
I'm sure there are exceptions, but they are few. TSW might be one of them, but it only differs in it's setting (modern world). Even games like Wildstar (fantasy/scifi combo) don't escape this mold.
Also, do mind that with verticality i mean maps that are designed to make use of height differences and have multiple levels in the same x,y location where it makes sense, where it makes an actual difference in gameplay. Especially Korean games (i'm looking at you Tera) are bad at this.

So this got me thinking, why don't MMO's go a little out of their way in their world design?
Specifically, i was thinking of an MMO set in the world of Blame!, an experimental (and mostly visual) manga. It's set in a massive city of some kind, with one of the first lines of dialogue in the manga being 'i've come from 5000 floors below'. The interiors are massively intricate, it's obviously set in a far, far future where these kind of structures are possible.
That world is insanely twisted, with large open spaces and tiny corridors switching out all the time, and while the design is obviously human, it's off to such a degree that you always feel a bit uncomfortable. You never see any sky (unless the rooms are large enough to obscure the other end, which happens).
The game Naissancee (which i heartily recommend to everyone!) takes a lot of notes from Blame!, and could give you an idea of the possibilities.
I would also recommend the manga to everyone to check out (not giving spoilers, and you can find it at most manga reading sites) to get a sense of that kind of world.
Aside from this, are there other game worlds that deviate from the usual people would like to play in

I would like to see the world divided into instances, that can be instantly accessed via portals or a menu.

In terms of the design ... something like in Dishonored or Deus Ex where there are multiple routes to objectives, and those routes can go up & down, and not just flat ... i.e. full use of 3D terrain and structures.

I essentially want to see morrowind online.

Lots of exploration in places and places that take time. No glowy map markers, limited fast travel.

Could have quests but I don't need them.

some type of pvp. In truth I primarily enjoy sieges.

huge world. One where you can get lost.

yes, yes, I know I'm part of a small group of people who want this but when I started playing mmo's I did so because I thougth they were worlds as that was what was being talked about at the time.

And skills/magic that aren't all about combat.

I would LOVE to see an mmo that isn't pvp-centric. Apparently there are many possible "sandbox pvp" variants in development at the time of this thread.

Can the market support, what seems to be well over a dozen new "sandbox pvp" mmos? Only time will tell, I suppose...

I would love to see an MMO go classic with a modern twist. Old school Trinity with Tanking, Heals and CC. Where teaming is required the higher your level. Wide range of classes like EQ1 or DAoC. Add in some modern stuff like Voxel Farms. Also content for all sizes of teams, duo, to full team. Add in some great RvR style PvP and horizontal progression. Gear should be done like GW2 where it matters little and people play for the fun of it. If the setting could be in the series "The Wheel of Time" I would lose it =-)

It would be really cool if we would finally get a good free to play or buy to play Star Wars MMO. While The Old Republic is pretty neat, the free to play policies Bioware put into the game are just atrocious. That game is basically free to play only in theory, requiring a subscription if you want to access all the features it offers.

We'll be seeing something a little different with the Camelot Unchained MMO when it comes out. They have something of a puzzle Map. I'll give a link to the website later so that you can see more information on it. There is no PvE progression, so you don't have to worry about obvious questing hubs and you'll also be seeing some things like guild and player houses in zones that are regularly fought over.

What will happen with the puzzle aspect of the map is that as you claim territory, it will start moving to connect with other land masses that are also owned by your faction. If you lose it, then it will start to move towards whatever land masses then enemy faction that took it controls. It's going to be interesting to see it come into play, and it certainly a different map idea then I've seen in any other MMO to date.

Here's the link on the official site with more information about the map.
