Why wasn't it called Metro 2034?

Anybody know why? TBH, I prefer Metro 2034 the name instead of Metro: Last Light.

I recall reading somewhere that the Metro 2304 story wasn't that good. Not sure if that's the reason why, but it could be. Also, I thought they were going to keep it Metro 2033: Last Light for branding purposes.

I've heard Metro Last Light is going to take 20 years after metro 2033. ...I must find my own source who told me that...

Although, the metro 2034 book is VERY good, it's from the point of hunter, not artyom, so as a result would not be a very good successor to the first game. Also, Last light takes place one year after the original, during the year 2034, it is just called last light to avoid confusions with the book. which, besides the year, is unrelated to the game.

Yep. It doesn't follow the storyline from 2034, so it's not called Metro 2034. Artyom doesn't even appear in 2034 actually... Theres an Artyom, but it's Artyom Popov. Not "our" Artyom. As much as I like Hunter I'd hate to see Artyom forgotten as he apparently was in 2034. ):

If Last Light was name 2034 then people would get confused with the book.

i think that first of all,the story of Last Light doesn't stick with the book Metro 2034 at all.
Another point may be that they don't want to get a bad impression on the player, which may be doubtful in buying a game called Metro 2034,he would remind him of the book (which i personally consider a failure)

No its because metro 2034 doesn't have Artyom in it. It's about other people, and 4A wanted to Artyom.

Last light takes place 1 year after the first, so 2034 is the year the game takes place.

I don't mind the change in title. Last light sounds cool, too. :)

yo, let's end this, the metro 2034 story doesn't stick with metro 2033 story at all, it's one year after, but centralized in other people, and for the game, it was better to have artyom, i mean, you used artyom all the game and everybody wants to see him again in the next game, you want to see what happens with him after the "metro 2033 bad end", isn't it?

The Metro Last Light story takes over after Artyom kills the Dark Ones since D6 has been opened and evil people(all sorts) try to get their hands on D6 weaponry which could mean that its still fought in 2033

Dito. Read the book "Metro 2034" and you will all understand why the game is not called Metro 2034. ^^
(In general, just read Both the books!)

yes i read both books as well. i wont spoil why its not called 2034. but the basic fact is that they wanted to keep artyom as a playable character
