Will Fallout 4 be 2015's best RPG?

2015's been fantastic for the aRPG genre. The Witcher 3 came out, and was widely regarded one of the best RPGs, something that challenged what we thought the genre was capable of.

Then Metal Gear Solid V. Different direction, but also showed us what an open world can really do.

I'm just not sure if Fallout 4 is gonna do the same. Skyrim was great, but it was a refinement of Oblivion, which was less complex and "deep" as Morrowind.

I don't know, honestly. I want to say yes, but The Witcher 3 smashed this year in terms of RPG. It will be hard to top it off, but I'm sure Fallout 4 will be awesome eitherway.

I do think Fallout 4 will be 2015's best RPG. I'm playing Witcher 3 right now, and I must admit that it is impressive. I just think that Fallout 4 will be more immersive and engaging. Witcher 3 sometimes feels like work because of the difficulty curve and the complexity of inventory management. These things were never a problem for me in Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Fallout 4 will live up to my expectations.

For Witcher, grab a mod called "Books After Potions". It'll help a little with the inventory.

Funny, Mass Effect 1 still has the famously bad inventory system, but Fallout and Skyrim had an extremely similar one. On PC there's a vital mod, just for the UI!

I agree though, the difficult curve of Witcher is harsh. I love it for it, but it's very unappealing to some. At least with Fallout, bigger gun makes easier kill.

Well, there could be other RPGs that might come out of the woodworks, so I wouldn't make that claim just yet, if you know what I mean.

I don't know if it's going to be the best, even though I want it to be. I just hope it's not really oversimplified. If they build on the success they've had on Skyrim but offer us better stories and interactions I'll be more than happy. It would be nice to have a few choices that matter and change things, like in Fallout 3.

I expect F4 to push heavily into the story choices stuff, it's a great tool for replayability, and with all the storage afforded to them now, it's easier to do (that's why we're getting a full voiced Protag).

I'm really hopeful that the mod scene takes to this like they did to Skyrim. The base building should allow for us to plug some really interesting stuff in. I'd love some challenge series maps, kinda like Portal 2's Perpetual Testing Initiative.

It will ultimately be between Witcher 3 and Fallout 4, with Dragon Age Inquisition filling the 3rd spot.

Personally, I think FO4 WILL be the best RPG of 2015. It's been waited on for so long and has looked amazing from what has been shown so far.

I don't think we can really say. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it is. Especially with all the hype surrounding its release and how loved the series already is. I don't know that another new release is as important to people as Fallout 4.

It's going to be hard to beat The Witcher 3 and Pillars of Eternity. They were REALLY good games, and I mean REALLY good. But it has a chance to be the better one for sure.

I think it could go either way because of all the hype around it. Personally, I am hoping it will be good and what I have seen so far has made me impressed but it could also not live up to all the excitement as well. There have been some good RPG's this year and I think if it lives up to what we are expecting, it could easily be the best RPG of 2015.

Before Witcher 3 came out I probably would have said yes no question, but now I'm not so sure. In my opinion Bethesda has never been good with having really amazing stories and really well written characters, and that is such a big part of RPG's to me. At the same time, with all the content they've added and everything you are able to do it could be close. Witcher 3 has a really good story, good characters, and a huge world; we will see how Fallout stands up when it comes out.

I really love all of Bethesda's RPG games and fallout 4 just looks AMAZING. I feel like it will most definitely be the best RPG. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were beautiful games, and I'm looking forward to playing Fallout 4 and spending all my time wandering the wasteland collecting random crap.

It's a toss up between TWitcher 3 and Fallout 4, yeah. I've been playing Bethesda's RPGs since Morrowind and they've always delivered a quality product, if a little buggy on release. They're quick to fix any such issues and with the extensive mod support they provide for PC users it's a must buy.

But I don't know if it can beat TWitcher, they've got a very steep cliff to climb. I suppose we'll see in a couple of months ;)

I personally find Witcher to be boring, yet it is probably a BIGGER RPG, maybe not better.

Hah, well to each their own. It's undoubtedly a big RPG, when it comes to land mass it's bigger than FO3 and F:NV and probably a little bigger than FO4 as well. It does have a lot of those repetitive objectives that require you to kill a monsters in a specific area, or track down some lost treasures (x100).

The thing that does it for me are the stories, they attempt to connect you emotionally with the characters and attempt to elicit sympathy from you. I hope FO4 focuses a little more on the individual characters as opposed to the overarching storyline, I suspect this is indeed what they're going to do. Why else make all those companions essential?

How can you tell? It hasn't been released so there's no good indication of its qualities and we don't even know all of it's features. It could well be the best game made to date, but before release we could say that about any game. My biggest worry is that it gets too big and loses its charm.

What I would like to see out of it is some more interesting landscapes, quite frankly I'm getting a bit tired of orange and grey.

I think it will be. I loved The Witcher 3, but to be honest, it was too long. It felt like it dragged. I hated having to grind out silly missions just to get a tiny amount of experience. Fallout 4 will have some length, but a dystopian environment with mutants and other crazy creatures is a lot more entertaining than fighting ghouls.

It's hard to tell without having played the game. If it's better than the previous games in the series I'm sure it will be the best rpg this year.
