I found out a while ago that Microsoft bought Mojang. They help out with making a lot of good games, but can they make Minecraft amazing too?

If you found out awhile ago, then why are you rehashing a thread that already exists? :p Microsoft has been working with Mojang for a couple years now, and chances are good they can improve the game.

I'm almost certain that they will do a lot to improve Minecraft. I mean, they didn't buy Minecraft for two and a half billion dollars for nothing, did they? I think that they'll do a whole lot more just to keep the investment a good one.

They're giving free reigns on the Minecraft project with the Mojang department. Will the game improve a lot? I doubt it. What will most likely happen is that the game will continue as it always have been. Mojang may have more resources to work with, maybe even have an advisor or two to give suggestions, but as a team, I'm sure they have it taken care of.

Microsoft buying out companies just means they saw a highly profitable project and wanted to acquire it, then use their resources to market it further and make a hit with the profits. It doesn't necessarily mean they will help the actual game a lot. Plus, what does "a lot" actually mean?

They might improve it, but most likely it'll carry on in a similar way to how it was doing before. A lot of people don't really care about the new items in the new updates, they just want reduced lag, and microsoft with their infinite resources might end up being able to do something about that.

I think they will improve it by rolling out regular updates but I don't think you should expect a huge difference. One thing that I could see them doing that would be a pain is to start charging for membership annually or semi annually to play online. That would really get under my skin since it's always been a one time fee game. Imagine what they could do with their online server capabilities. They could have whole teams make maps for us and it would be awesome. Still wanting to try the Xbox Doctor Who terrain map. It looks so cool.

They will improve it. They spent a billion dollars on Minecraft and I think they will invest more money so they can improve MC.

I think they will do quite a bit to try to improve Minecraft, I don't know how or if it will exactly work out in the end how people are hoping, but I don't think they're just going to let it flop.

Well It can go a lot of different ways. Here are the three somewhat extremes(or lack of)

    1. Microsoft starts releasing paid xpacs instead of updates or some other pay to play thing.

    2. Nothing changes and they continue as always.

    3. They start making a lot more updates and adding all sorts of stuff to the game.

I honestly hope number 3 happens and would think microsoft would have the sense to not fix something that isn't broken. Plus maybe with some advertising and some amazing updates we could have a really improved version.

It's a matter of reputation for them right now. The thing is, there is not a lot to improve. This game is already a gem. Let's see what they come up with it though.

I'm honestly hoping they don't really try and "improve it" but I would love to see them spend more money so more updates could be released.

By "improve it" I mean trying to fix things that really don't need to be fixed, I'm all for new content though.

They don't need to do much. If they are trying to improve it, they should just be adding more content to it instead of thinking about ways to milk it more.

Yeah that's what I mean. I could just imagine them making some sort of paid subscription access online content. I think the best way for them to improve it would be for them to pay for advertising and fund a lot more new content. I also don't think a few official servers could hurt.

Xbox has xbox live which is a paid online service, so I don't think it's too much to be worried that they might do this to minecraft on PC.

If they're smart, they'll let the original Mojang team keep doing what they're doing. Seems that everyone loves what the original Mojang team did, so as long as they keep it that way, they should be alright.

Hopefully they just leave it alone. Let the old Mojang staff keep doing what they were doing for the most part and just don't interfere. I fear they may one day add DLC or make skins a perk only allowed through purchase. I am honestly scared for what Microsoft will bring.

Depends on what you mean by "improving". Just because a game updates, patches and comes out with new versions frequently does necessarily mean it's getting better. I personally feel Minecraft's new releases are too frequent. It makes it hard to find mods that will work with the version you have.

I don't think they will improve it. I think they're just going to gear it towards xbox and screw the rest of the players over. Microsoft likes to make games that cost money, and give the least amount possible for free. I think it will become an all-virtual version of an xbox game, and they will phase out the PC.

I was a bit disappointed when I heard that Mojang sold Minecraft to Microsoft but once I thought about it, I don't think there's really much Microsoft can do to ruin the game. I'm very sure they realize that Minecraft is an extremely popular game and will not take the chances to ruin a game with unnecessary additions. They will change the way the website looks, and continue with the way Minecraft was originally growing.

I am a little bit dissapointed they have took up Mojang just after they killed Bukkit. Lets just hope everything will turn out fine and Spigot or sponge will make a good succesor for bukkit.
