Do you believe that if Minecraft looked better graphically, even more people will play it? For fans of the game, do you think that better graphics are going to make the game better? Or it is perfect as it is?

    What does "better" mean?

As it stands, the game allows you to add different resource packs to enhance the texture quality and visual style. Mods like Optifine also allow you to adjust the environmental effects and overall quality.

I think part of the appeal of Minecraft is its blocky textures. I think the whole aesthetic of the game would be thrown off, with "better" graphics. The game would have a completely different feel, and I don't think it would really still be Minecraft in my eyes.

Personally, I find the current graphics to be part of the charm of the game. Seeing as you can use resource packs to access a huge variety of graphics, not liking the vanilla look is kind of a moot point. Also, considering how popular Minecraft is, talking about ways to get more people to play seems a bit odd :p

Better as in more poligons on the models. Smoother and things actually have shapes to them instead of just being blocky. Characters actually have dimensions to them instead of just drawings on a cube.

What makes Minecraft stand out from most other games out on the market is that its visuals and game play mechanic is simple. If the developers make it so it has a high-polygon count and basically charge it up into a Crysis 3 graphics meet Minecraft game play, the entire Minecraft ideal destroys itself. It will become an entirely different game.

I don't think high-polygon count and-realistic environmental effects would make it better, since "better" would mean things improve. Since Minecraft's style and functionality has been intended to be the way it is, the only 'improvements' it needs are the bug fixes and additional features over time.

I don't think so. Let me explain my point, I feel like the graphics styling is what holds this together. It's to the point the art style means it's always going to look the way it dose, even with insanely high polycounts it will still look like crap. But I don't play it for the graphics.

"Benefit" is subjective. I like Minecraft's style a lot and, in reality, its a very appropriate style for a game based around smashing cubes of materials into pieces and then using those pieces to create something wonderful. However, you can find numerous texture packs which modify what each block looks like and can change the style of the game. This is fun sometimes, but keep in mind if the texture pack isn't super consistent with how regular Minecraft works, you'll notice some buildings become much uglier when a material is altered from its original form.

Minecraft could certainly use some graphical improvements, as long as it doesn't interfere with performance. However, it doesn't desperately need it. Minecraft's graphics are pretty iconic, so people know to take it exactly as it is. Some resource packs do a pretty great job, so obviously that also reduces the need for vanilla minecraft to be improved a whole lot.

I really think the game was purposely designed the way it is. The technology was definitely available to make a "prettier" game with more polygons, etc. I think we should just accept the game for what it is and save this discussion for the inevitable sequel.

I am very undecided on this! If they execute it well then i think it would be amazing! But part of what makes this game so good now surely is, the graphics? Its so amazingly original! Maybe they can make the game look nicer and the technology as said above is available! We will have to see..

The low quality graphics is one of the benefits for some. Having a game that doesn't eat up system resources when playing is a benefit. I think that people play it for what it is. I don't think that a great number of people would suddenly appear in the minecraft universe as a result of upgraded graphics. I say, keep it as it is - it has survived this long, and it will for a time to come.

I think the graphics make up a big part of Minecraft, it's sort of like it's signature really along with the creativity of course. If they were to be changed I think it'd lose a big part of it's main fan base.

To be honest, no, I don't think it would benefit from better graphics. Part of the appeal of Minecraft is it's blocky nature. It suits the game and to make it into a hyper realistic game would be to ruin what made it so special in the first place. I love everything as it is. The graphics are absolutely fine. As it stands, however, there are quite a few mods out there that can enhance the graphics, and it's great that the game allows for you to download and install those packs. I'm happy with it in it's natural state.

No , I don't think it will. The game is fine as it it. Minecraft is quirky and it benefits from it's unique graphics. I hope you agree with me!.

You guys should also try out some new texture packs instead of the default, Sphax PureBDcraft is an excellent comic style texture pack for Minecraft.

I do not think that Minecraft would benefit from it at all. It is the play style of ones choosing, now that is the benefit for the game. Graphics would not make a difference at all in the game. I mean if you wanted better graphics then go download a mod pack that has it. Minecraft does fine on its own without such needless things.

I dont see how it can, The only thing that could happen in my mind is that the graphics will become more realistic, but then it isnt minecraft... i think it should stay the way it is.

I think that Minecraft should not change graphics. If people want good graphics in Minecraft, they install shaders, or something that will improve Minecraft's graphics.
Texture packs also improve Minecraft's detail.

I don't think graphics have ever been the pride of Minecraft. They don't define the game, it's the gameplay that defines it.
