So... ESO will be bridging a really big gap with the game. Diehard RPG fans & MMO players, add to that the heavy influx of more casual players since Oblivion & Skyrim & now I'm starting to get really really worried.

TES has a huge amount of Lore in their game but with so many gamers who don't care & can't be bothered to learn about it I fear that we may lose part of the game we fans of TES love so much. Just recently there has been a lot of flamewars here on the forums about people not even pretending to pay attention to the Lore of the game.

Idk, chalk this up to random complaining, fanboy elitism, or whatever. Maybe it's not as bad as I think, maybe it's worse.

That's why I made this thread; So that we could discuss the effects of casual gamers & the importance (or lack thereof) of Lore in a game.

I'm curious to see the disparities in lore appreciation between Console and PC players. It may be my own biases but I suspect a majority of those who are indifferent to Lore are Console players or at the very least a larger percentage of Console players will be Lore indifferent. I've just noticed that since the E3 console announcement there has been an influx of, for lack of a better word; ineloquence.

One reason I play any good RPG be it mmo or stand alone, is for the immersion the game and the lore has to offer, I am not one of those content locust's that rush to end game just to move on to the next one, I think that is more a console phenomenon, I have friends that play like that never take time to get into the world and really see what the game is all about, but I guess to each thier own.
I would think that a lot of ESO players would be more inclined to at least be into the lore some what

It does make me wonder if people that play the game actually immerse or not. I bet that's the bigger deal: that there are gamers that are like, "Kill kill kill." Then, have the gamers that are like, "Woah, this is something new!" Those gamers recognize the small differences or additions to the lore where others just skip over it. If people simply look online, there's reviews by fan-based sites that state, "This is a game to take your time with."

    It's either:

    A) Focus and play the main story, and you're done.

    B) Fully exploring the world and seeing everything it has to offer.

Person A could skip on valuable treasures or even skills or spells while Person B could be a huge ES completionist fanboy that has everything and has explored everything

If it gets to the point that so many people are ignoring the lore in the game then the developers will probably just free up space and not put it in there because these casual gamers just don't care about it. Or maybe they will leave it in to make the real fans happy when they stumble upon it in game. Something like an Easter Egg or something. But not necessarily hidden.

I love reading up on the lore and history of the world when I'm in and out of the game. Being a massive MMORPG fan, I've always appreciated lore. I don't think casual gamers do as much though, and a lot of the newbies probably won't bother with it.
