Will you play as yourself or roleplay as another character?

I tend to take another personality when playing games especially in a game like Fallout. It makes the world feel much more alive if I'm more about survival then going with moral decisions 100% of the time. I always play as a female whenever the chance comes and that is my only connection to myself.

-Will you play as your own gender or not?

-How will you handle making decisions in the game?

-Will the character look like you or is it a custom creation?

I like to make characters that make sense in the universe, I'll make up his/her personality and morals and work from there. So no I don't do self-insertions, I like to invent new characters. :D

I usually try to make a character that looks like me so I can feel full immersion. I'm with Kenneth as far as morals go since I'm sure mine would be a bit different in an apocalyptic world.

On my first game, I'll play as myself. Then on the second and third (and so on) I'll start roleplaying. It's what I always do when I play Fallout. I'll finish the game with the 'me' character in which I'll make all the decisions based on what I would do if I was the character and is stuck in the Fallout world, then after that I'll start roleplaying as a character that I make up on my mind or a movie character.

I'm in between. I think it'd be kind of fun to customize to be like me, but I think for this type of game I'd rather not.

I have a couple of role-play characters I plan to carry over from my Fallout 3 days into the new Boston Wasteland. Not canonical, but I don't care.

My first and true love, Tresdin is a brawler and expert club swinger with a heart of gold. She will not touch drugs, even to sell, including cigarettes and alcohol. She always carries around a teddy bear, and picks up any other teddy bears she finds along the way to leave in her home. Her favorite companion is Fawkes because he's the only one that doesn't lose arm wrestling matches outright.

Secondly, there's Melvin, the evil scientist. Blowing up Megaton was just the start of his conniving and cowardly rampage across the wastes. Bullied in the vault, Melvin has one hell of a chip on his shoulder and doesn't mind taking it out on anyone who even looks at him wrong. Sticking to explosives and energy weapons, Melvin will lie, cheat, steal, and kill to get what he wants, ultimately aiming to hold the world in his weak, soft palms.

And lastly, Jared, the sniper with an attitude problem. And a drinking problem. And a chem problem. He was so naive at one point, that one Mr. Burke actually talked him into killing an entire city. Jared was unable to cope with what he had done, diving to the bottom of every bottle he could find and injecting whatever drowned out the screaming nightmares. He is unable to communicate or socialize under normal circumstances, but spends each day looking across the wastes for hope. For redemption.

I also plan on just playing as little ol' me sometime as well, but I feel like it might be a while before I get to that.

@JCLII I'm pretty sure more people would be less picky with morals in a Fallout world. Is it hard to sculpt the faces into looking like yours?

@Warpaint How long does it take to sculpt your face into the game?

@harpazo22 Sometimes it hard to know until you load up the game. We still have a little bit to go.

@c0stell0 I love how your characters all vary in personality and in morals. Is that Tresdin in your avatar or someone else?

I always play as myself in any RPG. Actually I cannot bring myself to create a character with different morals than my own. You'd think that having every play through be similar would get boring fast, but I don't get bored surprisingly.

Someone else. I tend to draw without an aim or person in mind, I just draw. And thank you very much! I am very proud of my Fallout OC's and try to shoehorn them into other games when I can. I still need to do a few Skyrim runs with them, but in the meantime I'm going through the Mass Effect series best I can with Tresdin. Luckily her character makes it a little easier to port into other series than, say, Melvin. Not all games let you be an evil nerd.

I generally play as myself. After I've gone through the game fully, I'll replay as a bad karma character, haha.

I think I will be playing as a male character, because of the included romances, but apart from that I will create my character according to what hairstyle, beard, face etc. I like. I don`t necessarily have to re-create my image in my Fallout 4 character.

@Kitty Reeves It's always fun to see what the evil side is like after doing a good run.

@Chris_A Hopefully the hairstyles don't look too hideous. For some reasons, there tends to be an issue with hair creation. :p

I think I might play as a mix between Jared and Melvin: A disturbed sniper who aims to control the world.

Now, after creating my character, I have to say that they really put effort into hair creation this time around. Have you played it yet? What do you think?

@Nuka-Cola Girl I think I got my character pretty close to what I look like. The hairstyle is about as close as I've ever seen in games. I did make myself a little more muscular than my skinny awlf so I look better in my outfits. Haha

Both! I always like to do this in RPGs, have two characters and approach the game from different perspectives, that's why they call it a role-playing game. I like to see myself in the game as a bit of a wish fulfillment, but I also like to play as somebody who is much different from me.
