Does anyone actually take the time to pay attention to and obtain these animals as pets? From time to time I like to do this because I find it pretty awesome to have a companion in the game. Although, does anyone actually find them to be useful? Or do you just overlook the animals and continue onward? I actually tend to find them quite entertaining, as well.

I get cats to keep creepers away from my house but other than that, I don't really get any of those.

Its a tie between Cats and Wolves! I like the Wolves to help fight off Mobs and people when I get attacked. But I also like the Cats because they keep away Creepers! (Mark already said it. oops! )

Eh, considering that most of the time I'm too busy making mischief and wondering around, I don't usually keep pets with me. It would be nice if there were a sort of flying pet, because as it stands my wolves tend to die because they like to fall off of things or they want the cactus to pet them....

I love being able to find them and then make them into pets. I used to take my wolves on adventures with me, but I tend to leave them home now since I don't want them to be killed. I take them with me a short excursions but otherwise I leave them to defend the fort. I love breeding the cats and getting all the types. The cats are also useful to keep the creepers away! I wish we could make the bats into pets...

I don't even try getting these as pets. Every time I've gotten one they just get loose and run away. I might be interested in an ocelot pet. I'd love one in real life but a digital version is a close second best and easier to manage.

You need to tame them properly and look after them!

    Yeah,
Yeah, I keep stables especially for them just so they don't wander off.

I have never learned how to tame them so they always end up attacking me and I keep trying to feed them but they just keep biting at me. Does anyone have tips on how to tame them easily?

The wolves seem to be about the biggest pain in my backside in the game. They always seem to be barking or have their growling stuck on repeat over and over. Its no so bad if you have them sit somewhere, but if they follow you it makes it near impossible to do anything work wise. Mine always seem to jump right in front of me while mining or chopping trees, then I end up smacking them and they yelp at me. As for the cats...when I can get them tamed are extremely useful. I part them strategically around my city to keep the creepers out, not to mention they always look cute when they are sleeping on my bed.

Do horses count as pets? They're the most useful when traveling long distances. Donkeys, if I have to go to my faraway mines

I keep cats too keep creepers away from my house. But most of the time I never really pay attention to them, but I do find horses a ton of help specially when I want to go to far away places.

Sounds like its a lot of work, I'm kind of lazy so I just like to have good armor and weapons as well as good fort defenses over animals. You have to deal with their noises, they get in the way, and I'm not sure they're really necessary in combat. If you're careful you can do just fine on your own

I haven't even encountered them yet. Where do they live? I'm not planning to travel 1000 blocks away just to get a cat. Well, the only way I would to that is if I could put the cat in my inventory.

When I first started playing Minecraft I would see the different animals and for the most part ignore them unless they were pigs. This is because pigs proved to be the main source of food for me. I eventually would hunt animals and learned the hard way not to hit a wolf. Since it decided to attack me until I was good and dead. So my first encounter was with the man eating wolf. :( I did find the good within them as I soon learned you could tame them and have them as pets.
Once that happened they weren't so bad. They would accompany me on my journey's. (Whenever I actually did one.) Too they helped defend me from creepers, zombies etc. So that I never really have to worry about being attacked without knowing. My other encounter was with the Ocelot. I was walking through the little jungle part and found one, but was wise enough to not hit it. I learned through someone else as I did with the wolves that you could tame them as well. I learned that if you stand still they'll approach you otherwise they'll just run. Once I got one tamed I found they proved helpful in scaring off creepers.
So to make a very long story and experience short yes I pay attention to them. Having done so, I have no regrets about meeting them either. Well except for the one that killed me.

I always try to keep wolves and cats as pets, the wolves help guard myself when I am going out hunting, while the cats can scare off creepers, I usually keep cats at my base and wolves following me at all times.

I love finding the Wolves, they are like the best pets ever to keep around at your base. The moment you get attacked they tally ho on anything that is attacking you. Though lately when starting new games I have had trouble trying to find a snowy area that they may reside in.

I like having ocelots BUT my friends once bombed my whole server with craptons of ocelots. Didn't really matter because wasn't much on the server anyway but it was pretty annoying.

I shall make an army of these beasts! Seriously though, it's lots of fun to get these animals as pets, Minecraft can sometimes get lonely and these pets are great companion while you are doing your epic journey. :p
