Worth getting back into LOTRO?

I've taken a break from the game for a long LONG time and wondered what my incentives are to head back into the thick of things? How long have all of you played this and if you have what do you love about it that keeps you coming back for more? Thanks!

I think mine is the way you can just free roam and the thought of being a character from like the movies as I have seen them all its great to just walk around killing stuff that's really all that keeps me playing it - the open world.

Give it a try, no one can truly answer that other than you. I haven't picked the game up in a while either simply because life for me right now is hectic. But, give it a try and see what you think after playing for a bit.

I wish I could get back into the game. I played for 2+ and had so much for my character. Unfortunately I lost it all when the change over happened. I just can't get back into the game knowing that I will have to farm all my traits again.

I would try and see the game is when I first started playing and I did enjoy the story, but for me every time I come back I usually play for maybe a couple of months and then I stop and the cycle repeats.

Well, the new Helm's Deep expansion is one good reason to come back. Aside from the new map, storyline, and quests, there's the new trait revamp that will affect all character classes. The new expansion will be introducing trait trees to spice up the class progression, more like the a simpler and more efficient implementation of the current class-traiting mechanic.

More generally, LotRO is designed to be one long epic journey and the game just has that much content to satisfy any player for years to come. Also, even if you've stopped playing a long while ago, you'll find that your account -- all your toons, gold, equipment -- will still be waiting. If you really loved playing it before, there's really no real reason not to try it again.

I keep going away and coming back, going away and coming back. I tend to return for a few days, then get interrupted by real life. At this rate, I'm not sure I'll ever actually see the end-game content. :D

Last time I left, it was because of all the changes to Minstrel. I couldn't stand it. But now that I've completely forgotten the way it was before, minstrels aren't so bad any more. What made you leave? Was it just typical life stuff?

What made you take a break in the first place? Did you just get bored?

LOTRO is my favorite MMO of all time. I have taken breaks from it in the past but I always come back. The storyline, the world, gameplay, the lore, classes, and community being me back. I have actually been on a break from it for a few months. I plan on coming back for the expansion. I am excited about the new Helms Deep addition.

I have a max level Runekeeper, a max level Guardian, and a few mid level characters. I am excited about the new skill tree changes and the reduction in skill number. I believe they are going in the right direction with this.

The scale of the world and the massive amount of content kept me playing once I started. I also like how much lore they were able to implement into the game. I also really enjoy the fact that there are several different ways to go about leveling up. There is questing, skirmishing, and dungeons, instead of just questing and dungeons.

I would say definitely. LoTRO is a solid and underrated MMORPG in my opinion. The biggest flaw is probably the store though. It can really drain your wallet if you're not careful. I've still yet to come across another MMO that seems to have the scale and mystery that LoTRO has. It doesn't really hold your hand a whole lot.

I'm thinking of rejoining after a long break as well.. The Helms Deep expansion is the main reason why I'm thinking of returning. It looks absolutely incredible, and I want to quest that area ASAP! Money has to get right first however...

I'd like to know too. I will definetly go back in there when I get a new PC, even if it's just for exploring, since Middle Earth is so beautifull, and the game allows you to do so many things other games don't.

I've played LoTRO for a short time, but I wasn't really engaged enough to keep playing it. I played WoW and Guild Wars afterwards, I really love playing these MMO's.
I'd like to try LoTRO again, but I'd like to know how it compares to WoW and Guild Wars as I can't really remember LoTRO :)
