Worth taking a look?

I'm always hesitant joining games that have been around for awhile cause I feel like i'll be way to behind to ever be competitive. I have played countless hours of original DoTA though so i understand the game mechanics. Is it worth taking a look or should I just look for a newer game?

Well.. you have to get lvl30 before you can play ranked and you need to get runes for different roles too - which take time to get because you can only purchase them with Influence Points; meaning you can't just use real money to buy them. If you play without runes, you are at a disadvantage to the enemy team. You also have to use money or points to purchase the champions, I think the minimum number of champions is 16.

Climbing the ladder is both a mix of skill and luck, sometimes you have bad teammates you can't carry, sometimes you get afk/dc's and trolls. It took me a long time to get to Gold from Silver V.

Up to you if you want to grind your way through this game. I personally invested many, many hours into this and just got bored of it in the end. Mark that up to a lack of progress maybe or bored of the same role every game (jungler).

What the game does offer is a huge player base. There are always new players starting the game so you won't feel like you're behind everyone. I played DOTA2, I think it's a harder game so you should be fine. Just try all the roles/positions out pre lvl30 and try to stick to one role in ranked. Being consistent in champs/roles you help you progress.

Definitely worth a look. As mentioned get to lvl 30, find a couple of friends and have a blast. LoL is one of the best games out there, especially that it's free and I love the tournaments they do! Plus the ranking feature is really cool!

The game is fun once you reach level 30 with all the competitive game types and rankings. The grind from 1-30 will be the time where you'll want to just give up. Just make sure you have people you know to play with. When you play with people you know, it makes the game much more enjoyable.

Don't worry about it, the game is growing constantly! It takes a while to hit level 30, which is a good thing in that it stops smurfs, and forces you to learn at least a bit of how to play, but bad in that it can take a long while. It's several hundred (300-350) half hour games! In a few months, Season 3 is going to end, and Ranked (Level 30) queues are going to mostly be reset. Members are seeded across a variety of ranks, but progression will be very fast in the first few weeks. The game relies on an elo-based system (called MMR) for ranking, so you'll very quickly be put up against people of your skill level.

I know everyone is bent on hitting level 30 (noob here, lol), but I'm kind of just having fun playing until I reach the top. The champion diversity and lore is what attracts me, and I really enjoy the gameplay. Definitely worth checking out.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed when starting to play a new game, I understand where that is coming from. Just remember it's a game and it is meant to be fun. Surely you're not going to be playing at a professional level instantly, but to me part of the fun is learning and growing as a player anyways :)

League of Legends is an awesome game and you should definitely give it a shot. Don't be discouraged if you don't perform amazingly well right off the bat. There are plenty of resources on the internet that you can use to improve your gameplay as well. Don't be afraid to ask questions and you'll see yourself getting better before you know it :D

Give League of Legends a shot! It's one of the best games out there right now. It takes some time to learn the mechanics of the game, but once you are able to do so, you will surely enjoy it! Don't worry if you couldn't keep up with your teammates right away, or if they tell you that you're terrible or something. When I first started playing Lol, I spent a lot of games against bots. That was how I learned the mechanics and objectives of the game. I recommend you go the same route and try to play against real players from time to time to test your skills until you're full ready.

I think you're so right about this. So many people get frustrated with others when in the big scheme of things it's only a game. If you're playing ranked, sure, get bent out of shape when your player does a crappy job (within reason). But the rest of it is kind of free space to just practice and have fun, in my opinion.

If you already play Dota, you should definitely try this one out, it's colorful and fast, I'm sure you will enjoy it.
And since you're already familiar with this type of games, you'll learn fast.

Go ahead, nobody restrains you to have fun! :)
Though I must tell you that if you're used to DoTA style, you might as well cease thinking about LoL since it's a completely different game. :)

It is worth taking a look. Older games usually have more content to keep you entertained. They have also had more time to work out bugs and develop into something players can enjoy.

I used to tell my friends not to bother. The game is huge and has a ton of champions and has a high gaming curve, meaning that it takes a lot of play to both get your account to level 20 to get your proper runes, and then a lot to get to 30 and actually play ranked games. I have every champion, but that's due to a ton of gameplay. New players are just so far behind.
But then my friend started playing, and I helped him along, and before I knew it he was playing all the time and had a bunch of champions he liked. There's a bunch to do, but the early time of playing the game is so exciting and new that you don't really even remember the trek to get to level 30. It's pretty worth it, if you have the time.

If you want to be competitive, there's no better game than one with a lot of competition. Right now LoL is that game. If you choose a new one, high level matches will be few and far between. You might get to the top, but you'll have no one to play against.

League of Legends is pretty popular still right now. If you've played Dota before, then you'll probably be really good at League of Legends. A friend of mine used to play Dota and then he moved to LoL, and he was dominating everyone.
