1)do I need the i7 upgrade (3.4ghz with hyper threading)?
    2)do I need the 2gb 680mx graphics card?
3)will the fusion drive really help when occasionally loading up bigger items

You shouldn't need specs like those to run WOW to be honest. I've known people who run it on machines that are really old and don't have 1/4 of those specs right there. If you do have all those, the game will run at 50fps+ at max settings probably.

I think the graphic card would help but not sure about the fusion drive though

That will run it perfectly. Macs are being made with much much better specs nowadays. Glad to see them becoming more relevant in gaming.

I don't think there should be a problem. What kind of iMac is it? Is it one of those colorful boxes or do you mean a Mac Pro?

Wow does not need that fast of a compiuter to run it on low to medium graphics. You may run into issues running it on ultra with a high resolution.

I don't play WoW, but for most games not all your GPU is what is important maybe you can get a trial version or something, but I think it should run smoothly on medium or low settings.
