You Can Go The Entirety of Fallout 4 Without Crafting

What you can and cannot do in video games is very important to the core of the game itself. This goes double for games that try and have as much as possible in them. For the upcoming Fallout 4, a lot of care and detail was put into the crafting system, which will allow you to make pretty much any weapon you can think of, and reconfigure armor to your specifications. Also, you can craft and fix up buildings and villages to your desires. You'd think that this would mean it'd be mandatory for certain things in the game to happen right, but apparently that's not the case according to Bethesda Softworks.
"It’s a completely optional, freeform thing that you can do, if that’s what you want to do," Bethesda's Pete Hines said to GamesRadar, of Fallout 4's crafting system. "If you don’t care about that and you just want to play quests and play side quests, and finish the main quest and that sort of thing then you can just ignore all of this [crafting]. Or do as much or as little as you want."
That's a lot of freedom when you think about it. But Hines also notes that while it may not be mandatory, it does help in certain situations if you craft certain things. He added, "There is a benefit to it, but again it doesn’t prevent you from playing through the game".

So what about you? Will you craft? Maybe just try it out and see how it goes? Or will you go the "purer" route and don't?

Sorry, but I'm the type that likes to tinker with things, especially when it comes to weapons. I might do a "pure" route as a challenge, but it will be hard to fight the urge to customize a piece of weapon to kill people better and more creatively.

I like things that are optional. Even in Fallout New Vegas, I rarely crafted things. I find the whole cooking thing tedious.

In Fallout 4, if they offer lots of different things, such as building pet robots that can fight alongside me, I might make the effort to craft stuff. Otherwise, if it's just another tediously lame thing, then I will pass.

I like that it's optional! It let's people who don't give a crap about crafting skip over it, and the people who love crafting another fun in game thing to do. I like it!

The fact that it is optional, is great because they don`t force you to do anything. But I will craft nevertheless, because I always loved that aspect in any game that I am playing. Customizing your armor and weapons with raw materials that you can grow, harvest or find in the environment is just too cool to pass up on, in my opinion.

Bonus points if they let you rename it like "The Tickler" for that rocket launcher you created that shoots mini nukes or " The Hammer of Destiny" for that nice Sledgehammer.

Definitely, lol. But as Bethesda games go, I`m sure they will let you name your creations. That feature is in Skyrim, so why not put it into F4 as well. :D

It's pretty much why I like most of Bethesda's RPG games since it lets me create as much as the game allows me to and with the added feature of finally making mods on the console for F4, there's going to be a lot of room for creating.

They added modding to the console version of F4? You don`t say? I`m really curious how that is going to work out. They will probably link it with Steam Workshop. Pretty cool.

Wasn't it the same in other Bethesda games? I don't remember crafting at all in Fallout 3 and it didn't feel like I'd missed out on anything. I did craft a little in Skyrim but I got bored quickly.

It doesn't come as a surprise that it's optional really, it's just nice that they kept it that way.

Good to hear, makes the game more newbie-friendly. For example, The Witcher 3 is impossible to beat unless you craft and upgrade the hell out of your equipment, it's a nice change of pace from Bethesda.

Knowing this info pumps me up even more since it shows the free form direction they are trying to pull off. November can't come any faster. I can't wait to tinker with the entire world.
