For me, it was definitely The Burning Crusade. Everything felt so new and interesting, it was like starting out in Vanilla all over again!

We ventured to a whole new planet, flying mounts were introduced, and we got to experience what it felt like to be a fresh character at max level again - except this time, everyone was on equal footing. Sure, people are on equal footing in new expansions too, but it always feels like the race is over so quickly nowadays. In BC, with attunements and other such things, it took us many months to do the sort of things that people in Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor accomplish in mere weeks. There's something to be said about the unique charm the Burning Crusade expansion offered. I just loved it.

So, how about you guys? What has been your favorite expansion, and why?

I personally like MoP because it was new, and fresh. It wasnt the rundown "medieval" look (kinda). It was a new take on Asia style look and pandas?! come on, how is that not awesome!

I played Vanilla. I played BC and I loved their first expansion. Left before the next one because of the 900+ hours I put into raiding BT/Sunwell and the rest. I enjoyed it, but BC since I only experienced that one would get my vote. I liked the idea of outlying floating realms.

I'm an old school player, but I did fancy WoD, so I'll go with that one. The game definitely has become easier and cast aside veteran players in many ways, but we just have to adapt and remember the glory days. :p

All of the expansions had their magical moments, so I cannot truly pinpoint the exact expansion I liked the most. However, I would say that as of two months ago, my favorite overall expansion that gave me a sense of effort and achievement is Warlords of Draenor. I like that flying was taken out. I like that players had to make an effort to achieve goals. I like the garrisons, though I don't like the micro-management of picking flowers, mining, etc, then trade the stuff in, etc. Why can't I get my followers to do them automatically?

Anyway, of course, there are lots of whiners at the official forums about no flying in WoD. I feel that Blizzard has made great strides in trying to make everything 'easy' for people already, that flying is not needed. People take the game play itself for granted, demanding that they should just be able to instantly go anywhere, buy their levels, buy their achievements, etc.

You know what? Personal achievement will always be a greater and more satisfying feeling than global achievement, but it irks me that while I have to work for my achievements, others just spend money and then voila, they are epic. I remember when Epic gear was hard to get. I remember when getting a Rare was amazing. I remember when I finally got to level 60 and purchased my Artisan mount. These days....

ANYWAY, off topic. Sorry, just ranting a bit there.

Oh that's quite on topic. I feel like the feeling of personal achievement had been missing for a while before WOD...

I have to say that I think design-wise I loved the new one. It was very, very enjoyable and refreshing to level it - I didin't have that much fun leveling a character since I finished my first one. But still I hold the most sentiment towards Wrath of the Lich King. It might be just because I played it the most and had the most awesome guild ever but even looking at gameplay I think that both Ulduar and ICC were one of the most fun raids ever and the whole atmosphere of Northrend was very uniqe and enjoyable.

I haven't played WoD yet. I decided to take a small break shortly before it was released and haven't quite ended that break yet. But I'm not against the expansion, I just haven't really felt like playing yet.

That being said, pre-WoD I think overally I enjoyed BC. It introduced Blood Elves, and then of course you have the whole Outland story as a whole, which is just a lot of fun. Even now when I level a character up, I don't really enjoy it until I hit Outland (Although shortly after hitting Outland I can't wait to get out).

MoP...I really don't know. I didn't really "get" the whole Asian thing, I think the panda thing was wayyyy out there and I don't like the dragons. But that stuff isn't my style. I know plenty of people who went crazy over the dragons and the theming of MoP. I didn't like the endless dailies, or the farming (literal farming of vegetables ).

Tough question absolutely, but I think my favorite expansion was WotLK. My memory might be fuzzy because of how boring the past 2 expansions have gotten at different times in PVP, but I recall that expansion having the most content and balance between PVE and PVP. Naxx was one of my favorite instances to raid ever and WoTLK was the time I was most into trying to rank up in 3s.

WoD PVE has kept me interested in this Xpac, but PVP has just gotten so out of control bad. They need to do some serious work to make this game pvp viable again and actually fun. It shouldn't take 65% dampening to kill a healer/dps team in 2s.

Burning Crusade is my personal favorite so far. Love the atmosphere, the dungeons, love the draenei, loved my first forays into RP.

However, I think Wrath was a better expansion in general when it comes to gameplay and making more classes/specs viable. I personally just don't care about the Scourge and Argent/Scarlet Crusades yadda yadda.

As far as play style and content enjoinment I will have to go with popular consensus here and go with BC. Now the art style and seemingly comical break of mop was a nice touch, although I was not to crazy with the Isle of thunder patch. Just never could get into that patch. But I do have to say that wod is simply beautiful. But man do I miss flying mounts.

I would definetely have to say WotLK on this one. TBC was a great expansion and added a lot of new, cool features, but the setting just wasn't right for me. Outland was not what I expected in the WoW world. The new zones in WotLK on the other hand felt great for me. Everything was executed perfectly - the setting, the world, dungeons, the music was superb. I still find myself listening to Howling Fjord's theme from time to time. Harsh, often snowy environment, rich forests and huge seas. That's what I loved in Vanilla, zones like Loch Modan, Feralas and Winterspring. But gameplaywise I would have to say the two expansion were almost even, both added cool new stuff and made the game feel mole polished and complete.
