Are they trying to get advantage of the passionate fanbase by imposing a subscription fees?

Yes, they're obviously trying to take advantage of us, especially the more passionate ones. Personally - I'm not a huge elder scroll fan, but I'm a massive fan of their latest game: Skyrim. I believe it's the game of the century, and it should be revamped to multiplayer and available co-op with no subscription fees. I do hope someone cracks the game and adds a co-op mod. :/

Absolutely. I don't think anyone is jumping into ESO thinking that the game is going to sustain itself with subscriptions. I see it as a "early access" fee for those who want to play the game right now. Total cash grab IMO.

It's going to go free-to-play, or at the very least buy-to-play, in the future. It seems as clear as day. The subscription fee looks to be a cash grab to try to recoup as much cost as possible before they have to make the switch. The game has potential, and I will play it eventually, but I'm going to wait until well after launch to see where it's all going.

To be fair all companies do this to some degree of course this is seen more in MMO's especially in the F2P ones because they have to make a profit somehow.

Full price, $15 a month, AND a cash shop?
WoW may be doing the exact same thing but that game is almost ten years old with an established community, they can get away with it.
What in the world are they thinking with ESO? Anyone with half a brain can tell you this thing is going to bomb.

Oh yeah they are. They want this to make them a huge amount of money BUT the problem is unlike wow the GAME SUCKS ASS. It doesn't play anything like the previous installments. They are bunch of idiots if they think it's going to end up being a success.

I certainly hope that you people are correct about their business model not working out.
Personally, no matter how much I hate the model, I think they will do alright. I will not be chipping in to support subscription fees but I'm sure that many others will.

Personally, I wouldn't mind paying a sub fee. $15/mo seems excessive when adding in the purchase price.

They must be rather confident in their game if they think they can get $15 a month. High subscription fees are a thing of the a past and the only games who can get away with are long running MMO's like WoW or EVE who already have an addicted fan base.

I think that ESO will largely go the way of Star Wars the Old Republic. When it launched you had to pay the price of a full game on top of subscription fees, and everybody knew that it was just too much to pay. I think that ESO will eventually become free to play, with a subscription option for access to additional content/areas/items/skills. I just hope it doesn't cut out too much of the game for free to play members, if indeed that is what ends up happening to it.

The simple answer is 'yes', they are obviously looking to capitalise on the existing Elder Scrolls fan base by charging a monthly subscription.

The reason that I'm not against this is that a decent subscription fee will weed out the hordes of 'noobs' who would otherwise pile in and spoil the game for the rest of us. Yes, I realise I'm perhaps fortunate in being able to afford the monthly sub, but I really don't want to have my Elder Scrolls experience ruined by loads of immature people running all over the place, acting like idiots and breaking the immersion.

It's actually going to be hard enough for seasoned Elder Scrolls veterans to stay immersed in a multi-player situation as it is. So, for that reason, I have no problem with the subscription

Also I hate in-game transactions, and hopefully the subscription will totally remove these from the equation

Yes, but only to an extent. They invested a huge amount of money into making the game, they're trying to make some of the money back.

For sure tey are taking advantage of the fanbase. They are a business, they are out there to make money. At the same time they also want to make something interesting and fun that fans will enjoy. They want to please their fans, but at the same time, the fans are the primary source of income.

Stop crying about the subscription fee. Do you realize how much a game like this costs to make? Tens of millions. You should be thankful that they aren't asking $30+ per month for such an amazing game. People are getting cheaper and cheaper when it comes to games. Remember that subscriptions keep the REAL MMO community alive.

I don't see anything wrong with subscription fees. In fact, I prefer subscription fees over micro-transactions. There are many F2P MMO games out there that allow you to get boosters to Exp gain and in-game currency by buying special tokens with real money.

For ESO, I will most likely not be subscribing but that isn't because I don't like the subscription fees. It's because I am already playing WoW and paying for 2 accounts. If ESO drops their monthly to $10/month, I will reconsider however.

I don't think anybody is trying to take advantage of any body, in fact I think the subscription fee is fair considering the hard work developers have put in to it. Not to mention the maintenance this game is going to need to keep running.

This whole game is based on taking advantage of the original IP. It's not surprising at all that the subscription fee would be a part of that. It's not the worst system out there as long as they update frequently and add stuff. If the base game never changes there's not really a reason to pay the sub fee so I may end up only paying up to level cap.

Is this game made by the same team that makes the single player Elder Scrolls games? If they're making this game instead of any more single player MMO's then I think it's a huge mistake. Most people don't want to pay a subscription fee and they'll lose a large portion of the fanbase by doing this.

Yes I think they are actually trying to take advantage of the somewhat large fan base, my brother played through the beta and told me that the game isn't anywhere near as good as Skyrim and that it played more like Guild Wars.

I'm not a big fan of Guild Wars so I think I will dodge this game, especially if I have to pay every month just to play it.
