Are they trying to get advantage of the passionate fanbase by imposing a subscription fees?

I agree with you even though I didn't play the beta I know it was not going to play like an RPG that would be to good to be true, but I think it's only fair that all video games companies do this to some extreme it just so happens that this is a more common trend in MMO's.

Yes I agree with that, however when you completely change the games user interface and its method of game-play then that to me is a betrayal of both it's fan base and of the game series in and of itself.

I can understand their desire to try and make the series evolve even further, but it's a risky business and after watching a lets play of it on Youtube last night, in my opinion I have decided that I will most definitely be dodging this game, purely for the fact that they have all but completely changed the manner in which the game plays, there is no longer any form of left click for attack and right click for block etc, it is a case of you you hit they hit and so on.

This is in and of itself a crying shame and I feel horribly let down by this new release for the Elder Scrolls series.

I don't understand? All MMO games have subscription fees, along with the cost for the game itself, along with expansions. Few games don't actually do this. I completely accept this. Why not charge continually for a game you have to continually maintain and work on? It makes sense.

Granted it is an MMO, but it is also and Elder Scrolls game and a monthly subscription is just a new concept here. A concept that is widely accepted by most MMO players, yes- but not most fans of TES games, or console gamers in general. DICE have to continually work and maintain Battlefield titles, but they don't charge sixty dollars for the game and then fifteen every month after that otherwise you forked out a decent amount of money for a game and don't even get to play play it unless you keep paying.

Agreed, I think that in all it is a total and utter betrayal of TES fan-base and that they should have put a lot more thought into the entire idea of it all, I don't mind if they had put in micro-transactions but to make it a monthly subscription is a little bit overboard.

Yep. To me, it seems greedy that they are asking for a fee. I get that the world is business, but it is the principle of the thing. I also play for the escape of reality and the comment about "buying a house and still having to pay rent" was a really good analogy for how I feel.

I always love when the topic of fees comes up, no matter what type of game you are talking about. It seems like many people assume that these games are free and that people don't spend time actually making them (from nothing). I don't mind fees as long as the game does what it should be doing.
