I think their days are numbered. There aren't many people that I know playing anymore. I remember playing it a few months back and my friend looked at me disgusted.

There doesn't seem to be that much support at least from my friend!

WoW is very nostalgic for most people, but with all these new updates and such, that's probably why people are leaving, since it doesn't have the same feeling it gave before.

In my opinion WoW has been slowly dying since Cataclysm, among outdated graphics, unneeded game mechanics, and a huge amount of subscribers leaving, it is surely heading for a downfall.

I thought that the best strategy for Blizzard would be to release an Emerald Dream expansion as a final conclusion, let it on for a few years, then remove the subscription and let it die down peacefully.

WOW had outdated graphics 5 years ago, it is not a reason for subscription drops. Blizzard is still earning about a billion dollars a year from WOW.. There is no chance it goes free2play in the next 3 years. There are games kicking around with under 100k subscribers that is not free2play.

I still think people failed to notice that while WOW lost 25% of it´s subscriber base.. it´s revenues did not drop at all. This clearly indicates that most of the subscribers that were lost were from China. There is no way WOW could have lost 25% of players from NA and EU without there being a huge drop in earnings. This also lines up with the fact that a huge f2p game launched in China in the quarter when WOW saw the biggest drop in subscribers.

No they're not numbered in my opinion. The game might be losing subscribers but you have to remember that it's still the most played MMORPG in the market. There are other MMORPGs with a wayy smaller playerbase that still make ends meet. WoW is not going anywhere and they will only change it to f2p when they calculate that they can make more money of it than the traditional subscription-based model.

I don't think so, WoW has some of the most loyal people I have ever seen, but I think their is a chance to lose some people when ESO comes out.

Well, more and more Free to Play MMO's came out and some of them were really good, it's natural for WoW to lose their players. Nothing lasts forever, maybe it's time to move on to something new.

I still see WoW being one of the top MMO's it might not be the number one MMO, but a lot of people will still be playing it I think to be honest it surprises me that it's in that spot to this day.

WoW has been on it's last legs since WOTLK, in my opinion. Veteran players and subscribers have been leaving in massive numbers since then and continue to do so. Do I think WoW will vanish over night? No. Over the next few years? Yes. New MMOs will arise that will leave WoW defenseless. Though it may pass on and die off, we should all remember what WoW did to MMO history. :)

WoW is definitely losing a lot of subscribes, and I do believe it will be free-to-play soon...
There's already the option of buying mounts with real money, it's just a matter of time...

I think that all of WoW's current bad press might spell doom for them in the future. They could save themselves with this coming expansion, though.

It's bleeding subscribers mostly due to the economy. Not as many people can justify spending $15 a month on a game anymore. However there is really no MMO out there that can match WoW in it's variety and ability to stay interesting currently.

I played a ton of GW2 and followed it's development throughout the course of it. Hell, I even wrote a lengthy piece on my old gaming site on why I thought it would revolutionize the MMORPG genre in certain ways. Unfortunately the downsides of the game such as the terribly grindy nature of it's end-game and lack of addon support prevented me from playing it past a certain point, despite the free monthly content updates. I have no played much WoW overall but it has managed to keep me interested throughout my time playing it for a number of reasons.

I don't expect any MMO to exceed WoW anytime soon with the current F2P trend going on. I only expect MMOs to heavily lose their popularity altogether.

I'm with Omar, I don't see any MMO becoming the "New WoW". I think WoW will always be the landmark/milestone of MMO'dom.

Nah, WoW has always been a popular game and just because it's players are dropping due to one change doesn't mean a whole lot. You see this a lot with MMO's and all it takes is one add-on/update for it to rise again. Things like this fluctuate all the time. I think WoW will always have sort of a decent presence when it comes to MMOs. Even if the game is way outdated people will still play it for the nostalgia, feel of the game, etc. Just look at RuneScape, people are still playing that arguably garbage game (hey I enjoy it time to time too, not hating here)

I think that WoW will end up like most popular MMOs end up. The developers announce that they will no longer be developing or supporting the game; or maybe there's no announcement and they just never have another significant update. They will slowly hemorrhage subscribers over a long period. Servers will start to get smaller forcing them to close and merge some. Eventually each region will only have one or two official servers. Then these official servers will close (maybe - WoW is pretty popular), and then all that will be left are the private servers.

It's really hard to say. WoW has been declining, but they seem to have a lot of great ideas coming in the next expansion, which I think will help them sustain or increase their playerbase. If i remember correctly, they will always be making expansions for wow as long as there is enough interest in the game. Hopefully we never fall below that point, because WoW truly is a great game despite all of it's controversies.

I don't see it lasting for more than a few years in its current iteration. One of the reasons I jumped to Guild Wars was because I couldn't afford to pay the subscription fee for World of Warcraft every month. Guild Wars gave me the freedom to play when I wanted to, and not feel like I was wasting money by not being able to play. Give us a huge send-off expansion, then relaunch the next version of World of Warcraft.

If they keep going like this, WoW will surely come to an end, but I am pretty sure that they have a "limit" that when they reach the game will become f2p. It won't "die" too soon because it's WoW, it doesn't just disappear.

Of course not. Millions of people still play WoW which makes it one of the biggest (if not the biggest) MMORPG. You can still start fresh and have a great time.

No. It'll die down for a bit and come back full force sure but I don't think it's anywhere near numbered.
