Are you religious?

    If you're a religious person, I'd say that's a good thing.

    ---

That's because there is absolutely no science in scripture.
You disagree with evolution on scientific grounds? Which implies you are a scientist with the authority and solid evidence that contradicts the matter? I'm guessing no.
Contrary to scripture, evolution is not an unproven made-up theory. This is why I said religion holds the human race back intellectually and is an upholder of the status quo. Science has answered more questions than religion ever did & will. It is pure theory with no solid science to back it up. Religious teachings are deceitful; at some point they will incorporate some scientific bits to suit its purposes, bastardizing scientific methods. Every religion is built on a set of beliefs, all theories, none of which will ever be proven true because, as I've said before, one cannot prove a negative.

There's one of the cartoons where you are supposed to make a small child interpret death however they like?! I think that would do much more harm than a white lie, making the child lie restless thinking if grandpa is actually being eaten by worms 6 feet under.

Or you could take the time to explain the process of cremation to the child.

That's not the point. Being dishonest with your child will only cause more confusion.

Yes, let's be childish about it and blow everything out of proportion. I never said you couldn't dress up the situation nicely.

Wait, whaaaaaat? In the bible, there was written something similar to "The earth is round like a ball, hanging on the nothing" before Science officially declaired that the earth is flat, my friend.

First, I think that's hard to do. Dress up a situation nicely and not be dishonest?
Plus, many parents want their (young) children to believe in stuff like santa claus and the easter bunny, so they probably wouldn't be honest in terms of death.

I agree with Darkbringer on that one. You definitely shouldn't tell your children that dead people go to heaven, but you could say for example that they'll be resting peacefully forever underground. Religion shouldn't be shoved down small children's throats, but neither should Science, as it would frighten them and they'd have a hard time understanding.

No, the bible described the earth as a circle, in the sense that it was round and flat.

And science too can get shit dead wrong but again, like I said previously, science is humble and in no way reluctant to be proven wrong.
That's because the average parent is clueless and lacks the proper skills to come up with something nice.
And that's why society is fucked, for the lack of a better word. For the same bollocks applies to religion; parents knowingly corrupt their children with lies.
With all due respect, you haven't matured enough to fully grasp the moral significance of parenthood so please refrain from making such statements in the future.

EDIT: Gentlemen, I will be taking a break from the forum. Not because I cannot form a decent argument - trust me, I can - but because I am in a very bad mood today and I might be a bit more aggressive than usual. So, not to cause any disharmony... The Cerberus will be taking a prolonged nap.

it also said that the Earth is 6000 years old....

Anyhow Skaara, regarding you skepticism about my "black&white" vision...that's how it is!

    God either exist or not.
The Church is either the mouth of God or not.
The Bible has been written by God(or people by him inspired) or several people who just wanted to teach their people lesson that were good for 2000 years ago,but that are now obsolete.

Out of curiosity, how come most bible quotes one hears of today from christians come from the old testament and not the new testament?

Probably because the Jews use only the old testament, and it's the testament where Jesus plays a role. The jews mean that the new testament is not a legit part of the bible.

And you're right, Rolf. There's a yes or a no. But all I'm trying to make you understand, is that nobody can be 100% certain wether God exists or not, and nobody can be 100% certain wether the Evolution Theory is correct or not. Some people might mean that they know it 100% and are absolutely sure about it, but that's just what they think. They don't know it. Nobody can solidly prove that God exists, and nobody can solidly prove that the evolution theory is correct.

The only reason they can't prove the evolution theory 100% is because they have not found out if God is real or not.

well, you actually can prove that God can't exist.

God is portrayed as an almighty, infinitely just and merciful being.
But if mercy is a suspension of justice, how can they be both in the same being?

If you repent for your sins, and He forgives you,He is not just anymore,by being merciful, since He forgives you all the "harm" that you have caused to other living people/animals.
And if He is just,He can not be merciful, since He punishes even for stealing an apple.

Also,He is portrayed as omnipotent and infinitely good.
These are the points that Epicurus raised centuries before Christ:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
    Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
    Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
    Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
    Then why call him God?
    (Epicurean Paradox)

    Checkmate.

And as an addendum to that I would like to illustrate what I've been repeating for a couple of times in this thread: one cannot (dis)prove a negative.

    Let's take an empty glass.
Q: Is there water in the glass?
    A: No.
    Q: Can you prove it?
    A: No.
    Q: Why?
    A: Because it's not there.

Let's replace 'empty glass' with 'the sky' and 'water' with 'god'.
Q: Is there god in the sky?
    A: No.
    Q: Can you prove it?
    A: No.
    Q: Why?
    A: Because it's not there.

My answer to Rolf's statement, is "grey". Not black and white, but grey. Why? Morality is not one thing or another. It can be this and/or that, a mixture with a degree of this and a spoon of that. I could for example say that it is Just to Forgive. Problem solved. It is not possible for us human beings to understand how God can have lived from forever 'till forever, as if there never was a start of God.

Even if that statement of Rolf was 100% valid (Which it is not), then it is definitely still not solid proof that God doesn't exist. It would just prove a fault in the scriptures. (Which it didn't).

I'd say that everything is proof that God exists. A random explosion of two particles (The Big Bang Theory) can never possibly have created something so complicated and geniously designed as something as small as a little flower. BUT then again, that proof is appareantly vanquished because of the evolution theory; The Big Bang created particles that progressed and evolved into something even more complicated by learning from itself. So your "proof" is invalid, but my "proof" is also invalid.
