I'm merely stating a belief of the Catholic Church, and I can in no way provide a legitimate response to your question. Some people, extremely close to me, have died, and I often ask myself the question, "why did God allow it to happen?" There are infinitely many questions like yours and mine, but are there answers? None that we know of, or at least none that we can truly prove as "correct".

Because there will be some who will choose to be good by their own free will.

In Islam for example that question was asked by the Angels:

I realllly wish I knew Arabic so I could read the Quaran.

But you raise a good point. Maybe God would rather us choose him, rather than having six billion automatons believing in him because he said so.

Basically, the Catholic teaching is this: God gives us free will because he wants us to love Him voluntarily. Sure, He could just force us to, but that would be involuntary, and thus not really love. We'd just be machines made without any freedom.

The evil in this world is the result of Adam's sin, and of course the fallen angels.

They say it should only be read in Arabic and if you truly know Arabic then it's like 10x better.

I agree but it could take years to master classical Arabic whereas picking it up in your native language you can be reading and getting an understanding within minutes.

I beg to differ, the evil actions of people are down to themselves not because of Adam.

I agree. Calling it Adam's fault would be like jumping in front of a train thinking that if you died, it would be god's will. He did give us free will after all.

Actually, just to share some of what theology class taught me: The Catholic Faith believes that all children, though born good, are born with original sin, and only through baptism in religion (my teacher didn't specify whether it needs to Catholicism itself or any other religion which believes in our god, like Islam, I think also counts. Dunno) does original sin be washed away, and allow us to be pure once more. Then we can go back to dirtying it again because of the irresistable temptations that are presented to us by Satan, the ones that we can only resist with the help of God.

The problem is, its like drawing a picture on paper with pencil. Every time you sin, you draw a line or a circle or whatever, and every time you confess you erase it to start over. You keep redoing it and redoing it again and again, but slowly it'll be dirtier and dirtier, until you throw it to the waste bin. Just saying.

All of this was what Theology taught me this school year, so it might be a bit naive looking...

Not naive, you put forward a good point, but some people will (obviously) disagree because of different beliefs.

Comrade Von Streff, what does the church teach about the two-headed mutants that roam the Frontline?

I believe in a superior force, god, or whatever we want to call it, but I'm not catholic, was baptized when I was a kid, but don't believe in the catholic church.

and I also believe that heaven and hell are created by us and our actions.

well, I was born in spain, where everyone was baptized during Franco's regime, but I have never believed in the infalibity of the pope, besides, I don't like the new pope.

take into account that I'm 47 years old and never had a say in my religious upbringing, besides, I don't believe that some groups of people will go to 'hell' for their choices for lack of a better word, eg: being gay, which I am, female at that and happily 'married' (civil partner).

I do not believe in an angry or intolerant god. god gave us freedom to do as we please. it is up to us to do right or wrong in our lives. if I do something to harm others for the sake of it, I will get my punishment, one way or another, of that I'm sure, in this life or in the next, since I do believe in karma and reincarnation.

regarding the heaven and hell thing, like just doing what is right and decent, without expecting payment or some other favour in return, will bring me a peace of mind which would be my own 'heaven' so to speak. if I do wrong I'll suffer the consequences and I'll have a dirty conscience, that would be my own 'private' hell.

not making much sense at the mo methinks....

ed: a lot of ppl will probably condem me for just my sexual orientation and/or my views, but that's who I am. I don't hide nor I pretend to be something I'm not. I'm hepatitis C positive through a bad tattoo I had done 16 years ago, perhaps it is karma for something I did in a past life, I don't know, but I do know that whatever it is life will throw at me I'll confront head on with a clean conscience. do I think god hates me 'cause I'm gay and/or hep c positive? I don't think so. am I gonna go to hell because of that? I don't know, perhaps, depending on who you talk to. am I in any sort of particular hell? definetly no, what's more, I'm happy with my life. I went through Hep C treatment and didn't work. It was really bad treatment in terms of side effects (like having chemo, but every single day for 18 months) and I was very ill, but I'll gladly go through it again to get rid of this virus, as many times as I have to (either that or transplant or early death from liver cancer), but still, I'm happy and content.

and I'll shut up now, too long a post.
