At what subscription rate would make you want to play ESO?

Well this is a collision of interests. We want it to be as cheap as possible, and the devs want to make as much money as possible (to further develop the game). So obviously, the solution is a compromise.

I don't like that there is both one time price and a subscription. Stick to either of that, preferably the subscription. The game should be like free to download, but if you want to actually make a character, you would have to pay. And of course a 1 month trial or something.

Why? Because that way devs are getting passive income monthly, and players can give 10-15$ per month I believe. You can make that amount of money each day for some small jobs, either on the internet or local.

I wish it were Free to play subscription but I would be willing to pay the $50-60 game purchase.

you have to realize that it cost money to keep a server running for MMORPR's,I have a job so the $15 isn't a big sweat for me to help support this game.

The thing about a $14.99 subscription rate for Elder Scrolls Online is that it would only be worth it if you played it regularly. If I end up playing ESO every day or even just a couple times a week it'll probably be worth it, but as soon as it sits on the shelf for a week or two, I'll unsubscribe from it. If they had a subscription rate around $5-$8/month I would be more likely to subscribe and not worry about unsubscribing so quickly.

Right now the monthly subscription of $15 a month is very steep for me. Not to mention, we have to purchase the game. Coupled with shops that deal with real money, I have no choice but to give this a pass for now. Maybe someday if the sub fee goes down to $5, I'll consider it.

Like others have said, I would prefer to just pay for the game and not have to pay a subscription fee. Since there is a subscription fee, $10 dollars seems about right. I just really hope Bethesda decides to go free to play sooner than later.

I've gotten Beta invites and played it a few times now, I will not be buying it. I didn't feel it worth a $60 up front fee or a $10-$15 a month fee. The only way I would buy a subscription is if the base game was free to download and the subscription was only $5 a month. For me personally it is not worth more that that especially since there will no doubt be paid DLC regardless of whether or not you have a subscription.

I'd probably pay no more than $5 a month for this game. I'm a big fan of the Elder Scrolls games but ESO doesn't seem to bring anything new to MMO's.

I like Guild Wars' system where you pay 50$ for the game and then it's F2P.
The servers are supported by buying cosmetic stuff from the cash shop, but there's nothing for sale there that makes it pay-to-win.
You need to be absolutely sure your game is fantastic to charge a subscription.

$15 for a subscription is as high as anyone would go in my opinion. Any higher than that would just be a scam. No game should charge more than the standard 15. I prefer the $10 model over the 15 though.

Then what do you propose on how the developers pay for the following:

    - multiple stable servers that cater to millions of players
    - full time support staff for billing, general inquiries, technical
    - constant weekly patch updates
    - new content
    - improved content
    - in-game and website moderators
    - marketing and human resources

    ==========

As for myself, the subscription rate is dependent on the quality of the game. I am willing to pay $15/month on a game I enjoy. It makes sense. It mind boggles me why some people think a subscription fee doesn't make sense. It's like they think it doesn't cost any money to run a quality game.

However, like I said, the monthly cost is dependent on the game. For ESO, I am willing to pay $10/month. For Star Wars TOR, I am willing to pay $10/month. For WoW, I am willing to pay $15/month.

$120 a year is really nothing. If you are dirt poor, why in the nine hells are you playing MMO games? Go find a job, feed your children, play some single player games.

I agree, I would only play ESO if it would use this payment model. Guild Wars 2 is very successful this way, and they churn out new content every other month, even without and subscription fee. Microtransactions are fine as long as they are not pay-to-win. But as I see ESO right now, it is not worth a monthly fee no matter how low. There are many other totally free MMOs out there that you can play without paying a cent.

I think that's the sad truth that will ultimately lead to ESO's flop - there are plenty of better free titles out there.
I can't justify paying a monthly fee for ESO when I could go play Guild Wars 2 or SWTOR for free, especially since we all know how limited and buggy MMO's are at launch.

As long as you have to actually pay that ridiculous base price for the game, I am not willing to pay any subscription fee at all. It's pretty much one or the other for me. 60 bucks goes a long way without throwing in another however much it might be a month. In half a year of playing I'll easily have paid 120-150 for that. Not worth it for me.

I think the mentality is that it's easier to spend the 15$ if you are already committed with 60$.
If you start playing a free game, then it's harder to convince you to shell out for the subscription.

That`s a pretty low way of thinking from those developers, if you are right. First pay 60$, then shell out 15$, then possibly buy a few expansions for another 30$ per title..

Then buy a shiny flying sparkly horse for 15 more dollars...
Then buy a name or server change for 20 bucks...
And then pay another 60 to have a max level character :)

But that's just using WoW as an example, which isn't even a F2P game, it's a full sub ;)
It's just to prove that once you pay the initial 60$, then what you spend after doesn't seem as much.
If a free to play game charged those prices people would go crazy with complaints.

Zero. I would want the game to be free to play. I saw the gameplay. I was not impressed. It's ok, but in my opinion It's not worth the subscription. The gameplay is just clumsy. The graphics are ok, though.

Haha, yeah, that`s totally true for WoW. I think F2P games do things like this as well, only more subtle, and at least they don`t force a monthly fee on you.
