I used a lot of Razer mouses and I wasn't too blown away by them. On the other hand, the Logitech G series is an amazing, relatively-cheap alternative for gaming mouses.

I had Razors and Saiteks...and absolutely murdered the crap out of them in a span of a couple months. They are great for gaming but not for me haha. I'm a really aggressive user of my mice and keyboards. Between everyday use for work, I'm also using them for gaming and they just can't hold up to my really hard and fast motions. Years of playing piano and other instruments aggressively is murder on plastic. So at the moment I'm using a workhorse Microsoft mouse, which isn't optimal for gaming but can take the use and abuse way more than the conventional gaming mouse can.

I don't use a gaming mouse. I have always used a standard wireless mouse with no bells or whistles. I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

Same here except it's even worse for me... I used a wired mouse. I have this Logitech LX7 cordless optical mouse and it's been a piece of junk since the beginning. The way they have the batteries slot, it somehow makes the batteries loose and it kept disconnecting my mouse. Pretty frustrating when you're trying to game and your mouse keeps disconnecting. I ended up just using a stupid run-of-the-mill corded mouse and I've been gaming fine since. I don't know if I truly believe that a gaming mouse with all of the bells and whistles really helps your gaming that much.

In all honesty, I'm not really picky when it comes to a mouse to play games with. I prefer wireless ones just because they do not get in the way. I am currently using a $12 wireless mouse and it's great.

I dont see what a really expensive mouse adds to a game in all honestly. I have just got pretty normal wired mouse. The only extravagance to them are two small additional buttons for the thumb and thats pretty much it, cost me about £12 and i was competitive enough with it on Quake Live and S4 League when I played them regularly.

I don't know what's the best but I like what I use. It's the Cool Master Storm backlit keyboard and mouse, it's made for gaming and works great for me! The keys glow in the dark so you can see what your hitting at night. The only problem I have is that the mouse is squeaky but I think I could oil it or something to fix it. It's sold on amazon for 27 bucks for the combo with the mouse and keyboard.
