"Come on, Pete We need to get to Profsoyuznaya" I say calmly. I look down the track and borrow Val's kalash for the time being. The train car rumbles along with no sign of confusion. Profsoyuznaya seems totally untouched when we get to it. On the tracks are suitcases and other littered belongings. I get out leaving pete and val in the cart. Rifle raised I look up the steps and see the airlock still sealed. No sign of sunlight. My headlamp catches the glint of a Russian police visor cap on the floor, coated in a thick layer of dust and mold. I look over the station walking cautiously, stepping over a baby doll and some discarded litter. The office door is closed, I look back at Pete and then to the door which I kick in. Inside there are 5 badly decomposed skeletons wearing scraps of police and military clothing. on the floor next to bones of hands gnawed by rats are 5 rusted and degraded Makarov pistols. Stepan looks about each of them before carefully walking around them to a large medical marked bag. Sleeping in them is a lone but fairly large nosalis curled in a ball. Walking back to the corpse of the soldier stepan grabs a RGD 5 offensive grenade and pull the pin. He grabs the bag and runs out rolling the grenade behind him. "FIRE UP THE MOTOR PETE!" he yells as he pours out of the office and jumps into the cart. The blast rattles the station and collapses the office section. "I got the medical crap, guys!" Stepan chuckles as they drive off.

I am suddenly standing in a nest of lurkers but then I am just standing on a track my rifle is gone as is any of my other gear then the scene changes I am a old woman I realize this is a vision of the future then the scene changes again to myself raiding a bandit hideout and scratching those tallys onto my kalash then nothing but darkness again

A quite stressful situation lurks upon the rails, that Pete and his companions, are venturing across. Normally, a attack from mutants isn't much of a fright when one is traveling via caravan. Chances were that a new recruit -not you- would be the one to be attacked by a creature and require some medical attention, afterward, by someone other than you. With a situation like that, it was easy not to get worried, much. You had a large group of armed men between you and them -them being the mutants. Though, this is different. Pete was only traveling with two other people, and whether he lived could depend on the aid of one of the others; so, keeping everyone alive was a must.

"Hey, how's she looking, Stepan?" Pete asked, rather loudly, as to talk over the noise of the engine. "Has the bleeding stopped?" Pete continued to face ahead into the dark tunnel. The viewing distance, up ahead, wasn't very amplified. If there happened to be a large beam, which had once been suspended, up on the ceiling, laying across the tracks, Pete wouldn't have much time to react and pull the break and stop the car in time. They cart would most likely flip or come to a sharp stop and send it's passengers flying through the air. They could service the accident, but injuries are likely to occur, and the smell of blood would attract mutants to their location.

I lift up the stomach of Val's shirt, seeing the bandage no less bloody than before. "Yeah, it stopped. I'm not sure if she's fine. Should I try and wake her?"

"Yeah, go ahead and try to wake her up, again. I don't think having her sleep, right now, is the best for her sake. She can rest after we take her to a doctor." Pete stood at the front of the car, keeping his hand steady on the accelerator. The rumble of the engine became monotone and Pete went into a daze. He thought about telling stories around a fire and playing a card game with an old friend. The images repeated themselves, several times, before Pete realized he was day dreaming. "If we had some of that industrial pure vinegar, I'd imagine that'd wake her up. But for now, just shake her out of her sleep."

I give her more smelling salts from the vial. The epi pen, long expired I toss off into the tracks. I mop her face with cold water from one of the packed water bottles and help her to wake up. "Pete, how much fuel do we have left?" I ask becoming aware of the sound of the motor. Val's face moves as if she's saying something but is still out cold. I continue giving the smelling salts and then give up, saving some for future application

"We've got an 1/8th of a tank left in her before she runs out." Pete began humming a melodic tune -granted that nobody would be able to hear him over the sound of the engine and the metal wheels clanking on the rails. "Hey, how far his this place anyway? The next station, I mean?" Pete asked, turning around. When he did, he saw that Valentina was now awake, thanks to Stepan.

I look at the map, at val, then at the engine. "We're going to the end of the line, er.. I do not think we've got enough fuel to even get close. What's the plan, pete?" I put the AK next to Val and pick up my modified pipe mosin. "Good to see you awake, val. How are you feeling?" I ask with a sense of dread on my voice due to the lack of petrol.

"What's the plan? Well, gee, I don't know." Pete acknowledged, sarcastically, while stroking his beard. "I believe you were the one with the plan, last I checked." Pete shook his head in amusement and disbelief. "Well, if this gas guzzler croaks, then we'd have to go by foot. I'm not sure if you've been paying much attention, to our surroundings; but there have been a lot of side passages that connect to this rail." Pete paused for a moment, contemplating the situation. "Hey, who the hell did you hire to fill up this car anyway? They didn't even have, the courtesy, to give us some extra fuel for the long ride." Pete chuckled. There wasn't any good in flaying Stepan with questions that wouldn't make a difference at the moment. "I'm glad you're awake Val....We're gonna be needing your help once the cart runs out of fuel. I just hope you're able to walk the remaining of the way." With those words, and a coincidence, the rail cart's engine began spurting and then turned off. The lights on it still worked, and they still had enough momentum to coast, quite a distance, before they came to a complete hault. "Here's our stop!" Pete said. Pete jumped off, lugging his shotgun, and waited for the other two to hop down. "Go ahead and leave the lights on. At least they'll illuminate our way for a while and keep away any of the critters, looking to snack on us. Hey, about how far are we from the station? 1km?"

I look at Val and then Pete, saying "Could we surface for fuel. Just go up, check and siphon some petrol from an abandoned car? This part of the city is most likely untouched by stalkers..." I check my map which was taped to a soviet map case. "We passed Novye Cheremushki and the next station is Kaluzhskaya. We could surface there and police up some fuel." I pick up the empty spare gas can and shake it before tossing it to my side. I look at the army jacket by Val's side, take it and put it back on. The faded west german shirt won't keep me warm enough on topside

I nod at Stepan and jump off the cart only for my vision to go white from pain and my kalash to drop out of my hands as I scream and grab at the cart only to fall on the ground dimly aware of whats around me due to all the pain of jaring my injurys.

"Val! You need your rest.. If you still feel the need to contribute, you can watch the station while we pop up, find a car, grab gas then come back. Pete, that mean's you're coming with me..." I lift Val and place her in the rail cart. I pick up the AKM, open the bolt slightly to check the chamber seeing a live round, I place the safety on and pass it to val. "Keep the gun on safe, don't need that gun bringing any unwanted attention with a slipped pin, now."

Pete felt uncomfortable leaving Val behind. To him, it was obvious that, being in an unfamiliar tunnel, yet alone, was only asking for trouble. He kept picturing him and Stepan returning, to the cart, after venturing up to the surface and finding Val shredded to strips of meat. Though, what had to be done needed to be done; and, if that meant leaving a companion behind in order to continue, then it was what Pete would have to do. "I'd don't like it." Pete said. "But, we'll return shortly." Pete dropped his backpack and began rummaging through it. He pulled out an old military flashlight, clicked it on a few times, then handed it to Val. "I know this isn't much, but I think one may feel safer if they get the chance to control the light and guide it to where they please." Putting his backpack back on and grabbing his loaded shotgun, Pete stepped off to the side and signaled he was ready to venture up.

"No, we're not. If we were to be protecting you, we'd stay here and hold out. Instead, we're leaving you, behind, to fend for yourself. Ins't that what you want, at least, from what your comment was?" Pete, told Val. "Stepan, let's go before we waste any more time."
