Can anything compete with World of Warcraft?

I have been looking forward to Wildstar for an absolute age, any idea on when it will be released, another game that in my personal opinion will along with bad expansion packs help to kill off WoW is the ner M&B Bannerlord game.

Well Wildstar has been announced to come out in the second quarter of this year, so it will probably be around April-June :)

Yeah I've been waiting for this one for quite a while. I even have access to the beta, but my current PC wasn't able to handle it(at least not good enough to enjoy it), so I ordered a new PC and tomorrow it should be arriving. I've been thinking on getting a new PC and this game just pushed me to finally do it, so I'm greateful for that as well lol :D

I'll be needing to buy myself a new laptop the rate all these games are progressing, as it is my Rome 2 total war and dead space 3 won't run on this piece of rubbish machine, it even has issues with my dawn of fantasy game.

I don't think anything will ever "kill" wow until Blizz decides to call it quits with new content. It's just far too ingrained into gamers as "the MMO" that everything gets compared to it. And eventually, you always go back to WoW when there's something new to do.

Wildstar does look like a lot of fun though.

I have beta access to Wildstar and I have to say I'm getting absolutely the same feeling I get from WoW, except everything is completely new. This is probably the first(that I have played) MMORPG that leaves the same feeling you get playing WoW. I can't really explain it, but I suppose having 14 developers from Blizzard working on Wildstar, should give an idea why I'm getting this feeling right ?:p

I must agree with you because before WOW I'd say the vast majority of people around the world didn't know what MMORPG meant or even heard the term before WOW came along. I think it's going to be difficult for anything to kill it, but I think some games may slow it's growing numbers and those numbers may fall, but I don't think they'll even dwindle to zero unless blizzard does something to really make us all angry enough to stop playing.

Back then, no way. World of Warcraft was untouchable. Yet, if Blizzard keeps to go on a path of producing bad expansions, I think they'll destroy themselves. They've stepped out of lore story so much, they just commercialized it so hard, it doesn't even look like WoW used to (I don't mean graphics part xD ) anymore.

Hmm, interesting. But will people actually think it's better than WoW though? Or just a different version of it?

I just don't see anything really being a WoW killer other than WoW itself. It's far too ingrained as "the" MMO and don't see it dying from another game. I mean, Wildstar is the 4th or 5th WoW Killer to come out in the last few years right?

In my opinion there is a lot of competition in MMORPG game area. However, world of warcraft is hard to compete since it has been around a while and has acquired a lot of members and honor.

TERA is very fun and is free-to-play with an optional monthly subscription for bonus boosts. I play it currently while I wait for the new WoW expansion to release. The only thing that I prefer in WoW over TERA is the pvp.

World of Warcraft is getting less popular everyday but it's still the major MMORPG and will still be for a couple more years, unless a really amazing new game comes out, but I doubt that.

Like many have mentioned, WoW isn't going away until Blizzard decides to finally divert its time and resources into the next generation MMO game or screw it up badly by introducing really crappy stuff. There are no WoW killers. That's a fantasy of the people who had played WoW, got addicted to it, then in the end blamed the game for their own inability to balance their lives. If not those sort of people, then the usual trolls and fanboys and fangirls of other games trying to bark up a giant.

WoW is epically awesome. November 2014 would mark its 10 year anniversary. TEN YEARS. Maplestory has been around for a long time and boasted more millions of players than WoW, BUT MS is free to play. A ten year old Paid To Play game with millions of subscribers is amazing. It's an amazing feat.

Blizzard has done very well, even though I disagreed with some of the things they have done for the game since Cataclysm. In the end, WoW is still one of my top PC games of all time.

One day the game will no longer be around and I will be older, probably with kids of my own. One day, my kids will ask about my gaming experiences and I will tell them that WoW was the one that did it for me. I was an on-and-off sub of WoW over 4 accounts for 9.5 years and when WoD comes out, I may be a sub for another year.

People have said ArcheAge is a WoW Killer. Nope. I played ArcheAge. It's unique in some aspects. It's pretty, but it's a child compared to an demi-god.

Honestly WoW is the best. There are a lot of good games of course that are fun to play, but WoW is just so perfect.

I don't really think any other large scale game of any similarity can compete with nor kill World of Warcraft. It's far enough ahead that the only thing that could eliminate it is itself through bad marketing and badly thought out expansion packs.

Nothing has or ever will kill wow. Wow is just too addicting. Tera couldn't do it, eve couldn't do it, star wars online couldn't do it, and neither will the elder scrolls online do it. Wow will some day, far from now, implode on its self like a neutron star.

I think WoW will just dig it's own grave unless Blizzard starts to make the move toward F2P. I think its the general direction of the game industry anyway, and a game will come along that rivals wow that doesnt have a fee.

They have tried competing with Wow in the past, but they all have gone down while WoW still stands tall. What they fail to understand is there can't be another WoW.

I don't think so, at least there's no MMORPG that can compete with WoW. People always say that whenever a new MMORPG is coming out that one will be the "WoW-killer". So far there has been none. The only way WoW will die will be by Blizzard's hand, either with its life support plugged out, or killed by a "younger sibling".
