Hunter is not the main character of Metro 2034. Hunter is ONE of the main characters in the book, but I'd say he's about as important as Sasha - which makes Homer the protagonist, whilst Hunter and Sasha are supporting characters. I've read the book and that's how I saw it. :p

Last Light is set in 2034. Read the game's summary on xbox live marketplace. It talks about how Artyom, burden by regret, has become the last light of humanity in its darkest hour. What would Artyom be guilty over? I don't know, maybe the genocide of the Dark Ones. Last time I checked that was during 2033, so the game most likely is in 2034. The darkest hour may be the war brewing between the Reds and the Nazi's over D-6 chemical and biological weapons. So those with the idea that is takes place before 2033 should do their research.

I'm not an idiot! I have seen all the interviews and stuff LOL. But last light taking place in 2034 is WHAT makes it so hard for our role play to be in that year. We could something that totally ruins what happens in the game.

Guys, the RP could just be set in a parallel universe or something. It doesn't have to be 100% accurate to the games. After all, it's not 100% accurate to the books (if it was, then - before venturing onto the surface - every character would have to cover every single skin-exposing gap in their suit with black tape). :p

I alway had the impression that our RP is set in between the events of 2033 and Last Light, so we can keep it in canon, so to speak.

We've followed the game canon really well (brilliantly so, I'd say), but we have not done as well with the book lore; this is understandable, considering that many of the forum's members haven't read any of the books.

    Character alias:
    Alek

    Birth name:
    Aleksandr Demyam

    Hair colour:
Dark, tainted by the coal dust of the metro

    Eye colour:
    Dark Brown

    Hairstyle:
Short, dirty matted hair, lack of care for personal appearance.

    Facial hair:
    Rough stubble.

    Clothing/Armour:
Thick woollen trench coat covers faded army fatigues and scraps of Kevlar interwoven. Has a black balaclava to shield from Moscow Winter, also has several layers of extremely dirty and worn military trousers. Thick, worn in leather boots.

    Weapons:
Has the revolver with rifle stock and extended barrel for hunting with the scope. Has a home-made single barrelled bolt action shotgun which consists of the Uboinik stock and grip, a single barrel and a bolt to load and lock the shells in place one at a time. Also has a single throwing knife with the Revolutionaries motto: "¡No Pasaran!" etched in the handle.

Other equipment: Has a single PPM-88 with at the most 3 filters on him. Has a hand-powered dynamo flashlight. Has a battered collection of books, he always has a copy of "Macbeth" in both English and Russian on him and a small medical guide.

    Other details:
Very young at 16, Alek was born after the nukes fell. Born into a family of actors, both his mother and father died when he was just 13. Forced to fend for both himself and his younger sister, he had to take his father's old revolver and hunt rats to feed both of them. Slowly, he began venturing further and further out into the metro system and even to the surface to gather materials to sell at the market. Very idealistic, he had always wished to join the Revolutionaries after a chance encounter in the surface. His commitments to his family prevented him from doing so. His sister had just found a job as a cleaner along her new found partner in a different station, leaving Alek alone.

Meh, I just wrote a random character that came to my head. I'll start RPing when I can dedicate myself to it. Got some good ideas on how to flesh it out. :)

    Character alias:
    Atlas

    Birth name:
    He has no idea.

    Gender:
    Male

    Age:
    29 years old.

    Hair colour:
    Very dark brown, almost black.

    Eye colour:
    Grey-Blue

    Hairstyle:
Ragged, cut just to long to be short.

    Facial hair:
Thick stubble, as filthy as his hair.

    Other physical features:
Stick thin. He has spent the last five years almost entirely on his own save for mutants. This has left him with several scars. The most obvious of these is the bite marks on his face, received from a Watcher. After this is his left leg, part of which was ripped away by a Demon. Finally, he once had his back clawed open by a Librarian.
He stands at 1.8 meters tall. He has no tattoos or markings other then the ones listed above.

    Clothing/Armour:
What he wears is a pre-war hasmat suit with a bullet-proof vest over it and various straps and pads protecting the rest of him. He hasn't got a hasmat helmet, but has an old gas mask that has been battered almost beyond use. He doesn't want to change this unless absolutely unnecessary.
When forced to remove his armor he dons very loose clothing that changes whenever he has a chance. This is due to the fact that he is not actually a ranger, but a stalker, so is confronted with the terrors of the outside world regularly. No matter how brave or strong you are, there is only so much the human digestive system can take.

    Weapons:
He uses an AK-47, treating it with more care then anything else he has. It has been his only friend for years and is also 'The only thing I know that hasn't f*cked me over'. He also has a trench knife. His pistol is a Walther P38.

    Other equipment:
Military class medical equipment takes pride of place on his person. He needs it, really. Apart from that he has two canteens, a wallet containing everything he needs to do with paper, a huge amount of bullets kept in clips under the suit on his leg, with a zipper he can reach in to get at them.

    Backstory:
Atlas grew up hard and fast in and under Moscow. He never went to school and learned how to steal at a very early age. He survived by doing this and staying with a group of other orphans. They fought whoever they could and stole anything that wasn't bolted down. Most of them died before the war happened. Atlas survived. He was underground when the bombs fell.
At this time there was terror. Blood marked this time of his life. He doesn't remember any details apart from bodies and fear. Atlas grew used to guns pretty early, and at the age eleven he was able to use most guns. This saved his life later. His city was overrun at the age of fifteen, the early Red's destroying it for defying them. He was dragged away and almost sent to Lubyanka. But he got lucky. He was saved when Nazis attacked and his guards were forced to fight. He managed to escape along with three others.
It was around this time that he became a stalker. One of his fellow prisoners was one and he taught them how to be stalkers themselves. They fought in the Metro's at first, until they all had decent gear to travel with. Then they went outside.

Years past before any of them died. Atlas was 18 when he was forced to watch a friend die, the man succumbing to cancer after getting his helmet ripped off by a Demon. He was twenty when he first came close to biting it himself. He had moved to try and get an AK off another stalker's body. He never saw the pack coming, gaining some bad scars for his foolishness.
Soon after they were using a rail to get to Polis. The cart they were using broke, a wheel coming undone. The trio were forced to continue on foot. A pack of Noliases picked up their scent. Only Atlas and the original stalker made it.

When he was twenty five, he lost his last companion and began his Hermitage. A swarm of Demons, about ten in all, swooped down out of nowhere. One grabbed him by the leg and began to pull him up. His leg gave way, crashing to the floor. His friend dragged him beneath the surface and patched him up.
Days later they were traveling under a library. Two of the denizens came to kill the pair. Atlas' companion had his arm ripped off. But they let Atlas go. A choked 'GO AWAY' and they left.
Because of this he gets slightly annoyed when anyone calls them stupid. They let him go because he wasn't a threat. Animals don't do that.

In the last five years he has had next to no human contact. He hasn't wanted it. He just wanted to be left alone. But things are never that easy. He helps people when he can, but seeks no contact. He spends most of his time above ground, because most of his scars come from beneath the surface and he dislikes not being able to see clearly.

(Not my best work, but it's been a while since I finished Metro.)

DAMN! Ush that is a great character to start with. A very metro-like character. With his birthday however, I would write circa 2004 rather than unknown. I mean how could you know how old you were if you don't know your birthday. Up to you though! :D Hope to see you in the RP!

    Hello friends!

I thought I would make a character, mostly for fun but if I ever decide to join you guys (if you'll let me) this is the character I will use. I'm completely new to roleplaying so I'll watch you guys for a bit and if I feel the time is right and I feel confident enough I will hopefully join up :)

    Name: Eliza Freud

    Gender: Female

    Age: 20

Hair: Thick burgundy hair that ends just below the ears. Pretty much always a little bit messed up.

    Eye colour: Dark grey

Other physical attributes: At about 1.75 meters (about 5.7 feet) Eliza stands nearly as tall as most men in the metro. Her exceptionally pale skin forces her to cover up nearly every inch of her petite body as to make it harder to be spotted when skulking around in the shadows. Her slightly pouty lips can normally be seen smiling in a way that makes you think she knows something you don't. Like a funny joke that she never shares.

With her warm and inviting face she's received quite a few free drinks, but in the end most (if not all) of her "suitors" are turned down. Eliza is missing her left ring finger. It has been cut off near the start of the finger with only half an inch or so remaining.

Clothing: Eliza wears a thick, worn black turtleneck sweater over her grey tanktop. When out in the tunnels away from the heat of the local stations campfire, she wears a black wool cap just as worn as her sweater. One could speculate that the sweater and cap were issued to some poor soldier many, many years ago. She also wears dark green fingerless gloves while out in the tunnels.

Baggy cargo pants cover her from the waist-down, it's pocket's filled with miscellaneous items such a pack of cigarettes (they were given to her once by a nice man in Kievskaya, though she rarely smokes she's never gotten around to throwing them away or selling them), a notepad and pencil, some multi vitamin pills and small hand powered torch to list a few.

She wears combat boots made out of pig leather with steel tipped toes.

Strapped over her shoulder is an old fashioned green messenger bag with a dark red, nearly completely faded cross covering the bag's large flap. If you were to open the bag you would see it's got multiple pockets and compartments.

Her ears have been pierced several times, both the left and right ear donning 4 black stainless steel hoops. Her lower lip has been pierced with one black hoop of the same material placed on the left side of her lip.

Equipment/weaponry: In her bag Eliza carries numerous items, some which hold great value to her. She carries spare bullets in one of the chambers along with a fully loaded magazine made to fit a Kalash. Tucked away inside some dirty clothes lies her gasmask. She's not sure what model it is, she just found it while traveling from Kievskaya to Polis. Laying hidden away in a dark corner, Eliza figured some unlucky person must have dropped it without noticing. She later purchased three spare filters for the mask.

A small, fully loaded snub nosed revolver resides within a side compartment for easy access. A sheath for her rather small, but very sharp knife is fitted on the strap of her bag, again for easy access.

Then there's the usual, clean underwear, a box of multi vitamins, a small flask filled with grimy liquid - smelling harshly of alcohol, a can of baked beans for emergencies, a lighter, a more powerful alkaline battery powered torch, a map of the metro, some bandages and two syringes filled with morphine. She also carries her identification papers in a secret compartment.

At the very bottom of her bag lies her diary, a letter from her mother and a book entitled "BFG: Big Friendly Giant". These items are most dear to Eliza.

    Backstory:

Warning a bit of a long read ahead. Also it's a little bit brutal at times so prepare yourself.

Eliza was born on the surface, she was just 4 months old when the bombs started to fall. Her father, a previously high ranking member of the army, knew exactly what to do when he heard the sirens go off. It's because of his connections they managed to get into the metro, both Him, Eliza's mother and Eliza herself.

He had prepared for this. He was fired for reading confidential documents about how the army was preparing for an imminent nuclear attack. "We don't want any panic" was the explanation he was given when asked why this information was being withheld from the people of Russia. If it wasn't for his good reputation and years of faithful service he would have "disappeared" like so many others did back then.

Her father picked up the emergency backpack he had made ready just a few weeks ago. It contained all they needed to survive for one week, artificial breast milk for Eliza, food for her parents, four extra magazines for his Kalash, clean clothes, water and medicinal supplies. He donned his military uniform, strapped the Kalash so it was dangling across his crotch and they set off.

When they reached the metro the gates were already closed, but her father knew of a secret service tunnel reserved for reasons like this. He herded his family past the thin metal door that had "WARNING! HIGH VOLTAGE!" written on it, guided them down the steep concrete steps that led into the metro. After two hours of walking, just as Eliza's father started to doubt if the small service tunnel they were walking down would ever end, he saw a red emergency light in the distance. They had made it to Okhotny Ryad.

It turned out her father was a fascist. All these years he had kept it a secret from his wife, how much he loved and believed the words of the Nazis from the second world war. It turned out he was not alone. He met many old army friends at the station. Many who shared his beliefs.

Years went by, Eliza was now 13 years old, brainwashed by her fathers ideology. Her mother acted like she was a strong supporter of her husband but secretly she despised him. She dared not speak up however, because he had turned into a beast, hitting both Eliza and her mother viciously whenever they questioned or argued with him. Despite that, they lived quite comfortably because of Eliza's father having a high rank in this new regime. They ate nutritious food every day, had comfortable beds and were not really lacking anything. Eliza's mother only wanted the best for her daughter so she decided to stay and raise her here among these evil and vile men, trying her best to teach her right from wrong and making her question the fascist ideology.

Even at 13 Eliza was starting to turn into a beautiful woman, developing faster than the other girls her age. One man in particular noticed this. A close friend of her father had become increasingly friendly and rather touchy with her lately. Eliza didn't like this at all so she decided to tell her mother and father. Her mother was of course shocked and disgusted and demanded that her father take action against this nasty man. He promised he "would look into it".

That night her father's friend snuck into Eliza's tent and brutally raped her, robbing her of her virginity and scarring her for life.

It didn't take long for Eliza's mother to figure out that something was wrong. A week after the horrible event, she finally got it out of Eliza. When her husband returned from his duties she was ready. "Are you aware of what evil company you are keeping!? Your friend attacked our daughter, he... he raped her for god's sake!" she shouted at him, her cheeks flushed with anger. "I know" he said. "It was his 50th birthday, Eliza was my present to him". He said it without any regret or remorse. He sounded almost bored, as if this was something that happens everyday and was not worth wasting his time over. "YOU EVIL PIG!" Her mother shouted, launching herself towards him and slapped him hard across the face. "I'm taking Eliza and leaving this hellhole, may you rot in hell with your precious Hitler!" She spat him in the face and turned around presumably to start packing their belongings.

"HOW DARE YOU TREAT ME LIKE THIS WOMAN!?" Her father shouted. A small trickle of blood was leaking from his nose. "I HAVE GIVEN YOU THE BEST LIFE YOU COULD POSSIBLY HOPE FOR HERE IN THE METRO AND THIS IS THE THANKS I GET!?". He hit her mother. Once. Twice. Three times. Eliza stopped counting. After what seemed like an eternity her father called over some patrolling guards and ordered her mother to be placed in a holding cell to await execution for treason. As they carried her away Eliza could hear faint, raspy breathing coming from her mother's swollen face. What was once so beautiful was now broken.

Three more years passed. All she had left from her mother was a letter she had written in her cell the day before she was executed. Some guard must have taken pity on her and delivered it to Eliza. She read it everyday. Her mother had written that she must flee, get away from Okhotny Ryad and her father. The letter ended with her mother telling Eliza how proud she was of her and how much she loved her only daughter.

During these three years Eliza had many nightly visits from her father's friends, sometimes it was only one man, sometimes they were as many as three. The first time was visited by more than one man, she refused to be their toy and tried to escape. She kicked one of them in the groin and started to run. The other two caught her before she left the light of the campfire outside her tent. Struck with rage, the man Eliza had kicked produced a long, shiny and extremely sharp knife from his pocket. The other two held Eliza down as the third man cut off her left ring finger. "This will teach you to behave you little whore". Blinded by pain and shock Eliza felt nearly nothing as the three men abused her. Again. And Again.

The following day when her father returned from his shift, he saw what had happened to Eliza's finger. Or rather, what was left off it. He sent her off to the medical tent to get her wound disinfected and patched up. He never said anything. He wasn't angry, he just cared enough about his daughter to get her fixed up. It would look bad if a man in his position ended up with a daughter who was missing an arm due to infection.

At her 16th birthday (which her father forgot) she decided to leave. She couldn't take anymore of the endless punishment she was receiving nearly every night. She was finally going to follow her mother's last wish. Leaving her father behind.

That night, with what few belongings she had - packed and ready to go, she waited. Waited for her father to go to bed.

Eliza can't remember much more of that night. All she remembers was the look of shock and disappointment in her father's eyes when he realized that he was being stabbed repeatedly in the chest by his daughter. Eliza left his tent, crying and covered with blood. A mixed feeling of relief, regret and sorrow filled her heart.

Four years later Eliza is living in Kievskaya. She grows and sells psychedelic mushrooms to traveling merchants and the local residents. She's got a small tent and is living life quite happily there. Eliza quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with. When the first man tried to impose on her mushroom patch she beat him to a pulp. Filled with shame and the insults from his friends still ringing in his ears he left the station for good. Not many bothered Eliza after that. As time went by she made friends in the trading station. They respected her and her work and would help out if any outsiders who hadn't heard of Eliza's reputation would try to take advantage of her. She was safe here.

I just wrote her backstory in one sitting, I might flesh it out a bit more later.
