What you referencing to is Leninist-Stalinist Communism which is wrong and immoral. Wrong and immoral in every way. Us anarcho-communists are against authority. We believe that only the people should decide what happens to them. It is a mainly secular belief, but people have the right to religion (be they theist or atheist). We also respect any type of people regardless of anything and most of us are generally okay with soft drugs (caffeine, nicotine etc...) Even if I or someone else might be against something, we cannot prevent their freedom/liberty. Say person A is against masturbation. He cannot stop person B from masturbating. You seem like a anarchist to me. But I can't be sure. Most important is that we respect about one another.

One final thing: I agree with you, I love finding out about other people's opinion, and believe they have the right to speak out even if I don't agree with them.

As DrDarcy has mentioned, what you have described is only one form of Communism. Something that most people don't know or understand is that there many currents within the communist movement. As DrDarcy said, the things you mentioned have been condemned in Leninist-Stalinist societies. There is another type of communism - it's called anarcho-communism. DrDarcy and I consider ourselves to be members of this movement or at least people who believe in its ideals.

I am an anarcho-communist (which, make no mistake, is still a type of communism). But I am also a supporter of LGBT rights, I consider myself a male feminist, I have nothing against masturbation or sex before marriage (I actually believe that sexual repression is a type of fascism), I believe that the decision whether to give birth or have an abortion should be left entirely to the woman in question and I strongly wish that marijuana becomes legal in more countries. You can see how different that is from Soviet Communism.

To help everyone understand, I'll tell you this: anarcho-communists were being oppressed just as much as others - if not more so (due to their strong anti-authority and libertarian views) - in the USSR and its controlled puppet governments set up in some countries across Europe before 1991. Anarchists in general, no matter of what type, were considered a threat to the Soviet regime and regularly sought out and executed. We anarcho-communists are possibly the exact opposite of Soviet Communists. Our views are a world apart. And although we might share some left-wing economical visions with those Stalinist idiots, our methods of getting there are wholly different.

The ends do not justify the means. This is an important statement for all anarcho-communists. Anarcho-communists and syndicalists believe that if we are to achieve real communism, we must use the appropriate methods of getting there. We cannot force everyone to work with us and we cannot kill off the opposition. We are not like that and that is the exact opposite of our goal. We are strongly opposed to authoritarianism and nationalism. Ironically, these two ideas were some of the pillars of a Soviet Communist society.

Now do you see how different we are? Communism is not just one view. Would you say that you can't stand capitalism because Hitler was a capitalist? No, of course not - as, obviously, Hitler is very different to the president of a western representative democracy... but both are still capitalist. On the other hand, you have me and Joseph Stalin. We are (well, he was since he is dead) both communist/Communist, but he would send me in front of a firing squad had he ever met me and learned of my political views.

Rolf managed, after maybe chatting for a total of 10 hours, that communism (Marxism, that is) might actually work and is not stupid. I'm still not communist by a long shot, but at least I know what marxism is and I have a pretty good idea of how it would function.
I used to believe that it involved oppression of the so-called "burgeoise" (such an ancient and quite unflattering name), but I now understand that there simply will be no single persons in charge of the others. Everyone in e.x. a factory will be a part of the decision-making. Which isn't plain stupid, but I wonder if it could ever work.

That's an example of common ownership over the means of production, which is what I've been mentioning many times on this forum during discussions about communism/capitalism. If you had told me that you just didn't understand what it meant, I would have explained it for you man. :p There's no shame in admitting you don't understand a particular word or term. We as people who speak English as a second language shouldn't hesitate to ask if there's something we don't understand in it. :)

Although I can understand why you didn't ask. I mean, for example, someone used "mothballed" in a different conversation on the forum. That person was talking about Last Light's multiplayer, so I assumed they meant "cancelled" but I still had no freaking idea what the actual word meant. I thought I'd look stupid if I'd asked, so I was glad when someone else did anyway.

Actually, i'm quite satisfied by the fact that imanaged to explain to our younger friend something about communism! It had come out in our conversations that he obviously ignored/misunderstood communism's idealogical basis for the most part.

    Ask me anything.

Ok this question is more directed towards communists than it is a question about communism:
A lot of the people who are communists, are the same people that don't have faith in society - in the individual and in humanity. Then why do you expect people to work selflessly for the greater good?

Because greater good equals good to everyone perhaps?
But i don't really understand the A lot of the people who are communists, are the same people that don't have faith in society - in the individual and in humanity part. :twitch:

Because some of the communists I know on a personal level have no faith in people doing good for society and they see greed everywhere, yet they tend to believe people will work without direct personal gain in a communist society.

This is why I believe Socialism in several ways is better then Communism.

In Socialism it is the individual's decision on their religion, sexual-orientation, etc.

Einstein also had something to do with it, so that is a positive.

Our homeland is ex - communist. It was like Pavel said. No one was extremely rich, there was enough of everything, true same cars, same clothes. It was peaceful, however not really a big freedom to express yourself, at least if doesn't brake the common laws and ethics.

I don't think that Bulgaria could be considered to have been communist at any point.

Bulgaria was Communist/Socialist, though it was never part of the USSR.

You aren't getting me, but I was vague.

What I meant was that I don't think that the State of Bulgaria ever reached a stateless, moneyless society that was not bound by capital.

True, we were never a sub - state of USSR, we never were a state, we are republic. China and North Korea were never part of USSR, and look at them now. Hardcore communists (even though USSR is dead). The thing is, USSR was closer than USA, and their influence was strong. We have an old, old friendly bond with Russia, they've helped us get over a devastating slavery 135 years ago. So you can say that we are in their debt. Over the years our contact with them remained. And you can say that during USSR we were not in bad shape. True, laws were strict, and democracy was a no - no, but it had it's positive sides, at least for the life of people. I was born when USSR was on dying bed, I had only taste a drop of what the previous generation had. On the positive side, I became fan of Iron Man and Marvel comics in general, before US... "stuff" wasn't easy to find.

North Korea and China's governments were helped established by the USSR so that they may become a Communist country and another step in the way of global Communism.
