A guy was arrested after they found a pistol, ammunition and pipe bombs in his house. He was planning to use these at my college... fuck, this is morbid.

Was this something that happened in Wasteland 2? If not, then I agree. Hobos are an endangered species and should not be held in captivity, hunted down, disturbed, or harassed in anyway -that includes feeding them as if they were animals in a zoo. The only time you are allowed to interact with a hobo is when the hobo interacts or achnoleges you, first. :p

It's funny that everyone who actually goes to the college didn't know about this at all until a few days after the person was arrested and this was finally revealed in the news. Even though the college management found out about it earlier, they did not tell any of the students. It's funny how they tell us that the campus is safe, since last year someone was raped not far from there, next to a club that is literally on the border with our campus, and another time someone was found carrying a knife on college grounds.

By the way, the fact that this eighteen year old guy who was planning to start his little massacre at our college had access to firearms and ammunition renders the usual arguments against gun ownership useless. Don't get me wrong, although I like to fire a weapon at a shooting range, I'm no gun nut and I don't believe that everyone having an access to even a pistol is necessarily a good thing. However, the people who always argue against gun ownership after a massacre often miss the point entirely.

The UK has very strict laws on firearms and it's generally considered not possible for your average citizen to have access to one, but somehow this prick had it. It shows that all banning guns means is that, sure, fewer people will have them - but criminals will still get them. The problem is at the core of the society we live in, what values it promotes and how it makes young social outcasts feel. This psychological isolation and depression, as well as the sick thoughts that stem from them are widespread in the West (though, of course, this is not exclusive to the Western countries).

Eh. There are plenty of reports of these kinds of things in eastern countries like China, and Japan definitely has its own set of mental health issues. Really, any place with dense enough of population centers seems adept at churning out nutjobs. I think Western media is just more widespread and eager to capitalize on this kind of stuff, which is a problem in and of itself.

I do agree with you on the firearms aspect; making violence less accessible is bound to knock out a good number of fringe cases of people on the edge about the whole thing, but in most places, making something like that illegal does little to actually curb the presence of it.

    -----------------------------
Are pocket knives banned on campus, or was this a hunting type knife?

I had to write an essay about defending gun laws back in high school about something similar to this. We had to present ourselves like we were in a court of justice. Anyway, here in the U.S., you can get yourself a firearm at the age of 18. You will go through a thorough background check, and if your record is clean, you can purchase a gun -it can't be a concealed one though; you need a handlers license for that one before you purchase a handgun. That said, if that person has no criminal record or any flags saying that they are mentally ill, the gun is their's; but there is still the chance of being mentally ill or buying the gun for bad intentions -just that nobody took the time to send them to a doctor and get them checked. And what's stopping them from going postal 20 years from now, too?

If people go by that belief, then might as well tell all of the governments in the world to stop allowing people to drive a car or any other type of motor/jet engine vehicle. "why?" you may ask. Well, a car is a weapon too, and it can cause much greater damage to people in shorter time that it would take for a gun. What's stopping a group of terrorist to go to an outdoor concert and crush the audience with four or more cars (trucks?) at high speeds from all different directions? Nothing. But people don't what to outlaw the automobile because it is seen as a good thing, a way of quick transportation and comfort (at least in most areas). There is also the "family car," so people see it as family friendly because their wittle quids can ride in them safely. Well, let me say, there are way more traffic related accidents and deaths, world wide, than there are accidents and homicides involving a firearm. But people don't see that for some reason.

Another thing. I think having firearms and not knowing who might be carrying one can help lower the crime rate. It sound stupid -I know- but if everyone had a firearm, someone with criminal intent would be less likely to commit a crime because they know they would soon be confronted with a firearm up in their face. It's very Cold War.

Ehh, anyway, this is just a brief summary what I covered on the assignment; And I think some of my points a pretty valid. I still plan on buying a rifle, the beautiful mosin nagant, because I've always wanted one. :)

Yep, like I said, it's not exclusive to the West.

Exactly. Nowadays, the easiest way to get nationwide attention (or worldwide, depending on the scale) is to go out and kill someone.

I can't remember what type of knife it was, but I think it may have been a combat knife or something. People were very shocked about it. Then again, laws on carrying blades in the UK are fairly strict and it's easy to walk around with something illegally without knowing about it (some info on that here).

Indeed, some interesting points. I can't say I have a fully developed opinion on whether one should be able to obtain a gun legally. I can tell you certainly that my views on firearms law are not as naive and overconfident as that of many other left-wingers. Part of me is for, part of me is against.

3352 as someone who lives in another country that has banned all guns i can say that gun control does not work at all,

when this sort of shit is a daily thing

Dont forget we are supposed to have trouble even getting a hunting rifle and yet these sort of things get found in police raids

I am so fucking sick of it, when i have trouble with the police or getting this

and yet assholes walk aroundwith these?

Wow, some of those laws are a bit harsh. The first knife that I got was when I was in elementary. The blade in it was small, about half the size of your little finger, but still; I would have gotten in trouble carrying it with me over there. Then again, what does a little kid at the age I was in be needing a knife for anyway :p? I took it to school a couple of times; accidentally though. It was when I had forgotten to take it out of my pant pocket the night before and I later discovered it was still in my pocket during class. It happen another couple of times with a larger blade, a litter shorter of the width of my palm, but again, I never took it out during class. After school though, it was okay for any one to carry around a pocket knife -young or old. It just couldn't be a concealed blade extending out past the length of 5 1/2 inches (about 17 cm) when you opened it. If it was larger than that and it became a big ol' Rambo knife, a police officer would definitely stop and question you, and would take you to to jail. You can get around it though, by having a concealed gun license. With that, for some reason, they will allow you to carry the Rambo knife out in the open here in the U.S. With a concealed gun license, an officer would more than likely ask you to put it away because it would make people uncomfortable. :/

And not too long ago, I got a military Ka-bar knife for the heck of it. I've never used it, even when I went camping -except maybe that one time I used it to slash a leaf in half. The total length of it is 12 inches (30.5 cm) with the blade itself measuring in at 7 inches (17.8 cm). Even if I got a concealed hand gun licences, I wouldn't feel like caring it. It would just feel out of place.

I see your point. There really isn't a point in somebody who lives in a modern society to own a firearm. It only makes sense if you lived in a hostile environment and you needed it to defend yourself or your home, or owning a firearm was the only way you could provide food for yourself.

@TotalAaron gun pictures: it looks like a mosin is in the second picture, top table, front and center.

Here's a video of a redneck-hillbilly-man shooting a 4-gauge shotgun with his hillbilly brother in law. You can tell they are redneck-hillbilly-men because of the way they laugh.

If some of you guys don't have a computer that supports .epub formatted documents, like me, then change the .epub to either .zip or .rar to open the file via 7-zip or under WinRAR ;)

Edit: Opening with .rar and .zip works for me, but the files inside only lead me to webpages my computer can't find or documents formats that it can't recognize :noidea: The only thing I was able to open and view was the cover choice for your book and a .txt document that had one single line of nonsense....

Welcome to England. Then again, I'm not sure if the law in Poland is any better. It's like the exact opposite there... maczetÄ… go, po krakowsku!
