There's not much to say nowadays, is there? Everything we've tried to get the forum's level of activity back up to a decent standard has failed (it doesn't help that Harley recently logged on, removed one spam thread without deleting it completely, and left - seemingly ignoring the posts I made earlier in the notifications topic). With that said, I still really appreciate the fact that you guys continue to check this forum.

As a newer member,I wouldn't know anything other than the desolate forum I joined nigh on a year ago, but the regulars are nice, and in the RP I've always had something to come back to and a reason to check, almost, everyday. I hope this place doesn't go under, even I have noticed a large drop in activity over the past few months. Problem is, given how most of us were of 'gaming age' in 2011, by now people are moving on with their lives, and overall have less time to devote to the forum, it's a shame. Never the less, I'm here to stay, it's a nice place

Yeah, those are fair points. I thought I'd have more time at uni, but it turns out that there's actually a lot more work than I expected and I'm honestly too lazy and stupid for this shit. Plus I didn't expect my family to fall apart in the meantime. I'm genuinely thinking of dropping this posh shit and going to work instead - no matter where, just so I'd have some money (it's not like I will end up working in a place I want anyway even if I knew what I wanted, without uni I'd at least have less debt to deal with), though I'd have even less time to view the forum then.

And I think the fact that our admin apparently doesn't care what happens with this website as long as it continues to get her some money should be controversial enough... or, on second thought, maybe not.

Maybe she'd take notice if we spammed her email, not like it's her job to do something about the spam bots

...*we* spam the forums? I mean, I guess if we got the mods on our side, Harley would have to ban everybody. Or we could just let the spam run loose, effectively killing the site for them.

On a more serious note, I just think that we've reached the point where we just don't have enough to talk about to really fill up a forum with tons of subcategories. If we had one main chat, we could honestly probably keep up with it pretty well with how much we've been posting.

It's true that it would be easier to keep up with it and it's an interesting idea, but it would be an impractical solution since everything would be much harder to find. Plus I doubt we'd really see any real increase in activity, it would only look slightly more active because everything would be in one place. :p

    Best suggestion so far.

Kind of sucks that the forum is dying, especially when I'm not doing much, myself, to keep it going. I've been really busy lately with a lot of different stuff. I've installed a really sweet stereo in my car, but it's not even completely done yet. I've finally mounted those sideskirts to the car, and that's not finished yet either. I've also been helping my grandfather move a lot of stuff out from his old storage. At work I've been working overtime all days this week, and I never work overtime!

Aside from that, when I rarely get to sit with my PC, I have a lot of theoretical car-mechanic homework to do on a Toyota website, so there's really not much time for gaming. And when I finally can do some gaming, there's no time left for the forum :noidea:

Also, the reason Harley came by is because I E-mailed her and asked if she had received any of your posts in the emergency thread, and I mentioned that you had some suggestions/requests there too, but apparently she wasn't subscribed to the thread, so she came on to subscribe to it. In adittion, she replied saying that she had added something to the forum, but she didn't say what, and I haven't noticed anything. She said she'd come back to explain them sometime, but she doesn't seem to have cared about what you wrote in the thread.

    Too small
Who knows, maybe we should use Nuclear's back-up plan and actually make our own forum with fewer threads and sub-forums

*Correctly using the right post-count after I derailed it by 1+
Dang it, Bamul! :p I can never get you. You know how long I've postponed throwing the post-count off in order to try and catch you off guard? Well, I don't, but I know it's been a long time (perhaps 4-5-6 months). I thought I had you this time. SO CLOSE, MAN. SO CLOSE

No, Bamul. Don't think of yourself that way. For the time that I've known you and by the way you display your thoughts through writing, you're a smart dude. Maybe what you're going for (in terms of a Major or what you want a degree in) isn't what you thought you really wanted. I thought I wanted to be an Electrical Engineer; but, after a year of classes.....Well, it fucking sucked Eskimo balls. I've now found something that I really like and I hope it is what I'm meant to do. I'm not saying that you need to stick to college or a university –especially when it's coming from someone who's possible future profession doesn't need a college education and that someone also wants to be a fulltime hobo on the side- but I wouldn't consider quitting everything and choosing the first drone-like job that comes toward you. I feel like I'm sounding like a douche. Anyway, I, personally, do not see the need for a college/university education -of course, knowledge is power and all etc. Over here, the push for continuing education beyond high school has been quite big. I don't see the big reason, especially when I believe and know that there are a lot of hobbyist and "armatures" out there (who don't have a degree) that are much more capable of performing the job of a 4.0 university graduate. I've had conversations, with people, over this for an unreasonable amount of hours. In general, I know what the answer is and why a company would prefer to hire a licensed medical doctor (with hardly any experience) than a street doctor who's been in the business for nearly their entire life. Stupid and unfair, but that's how it goes. As the band AC/DC puts it: It's A long Way To the Top if You Want To Rock N Roll.

Well, I do hope you can find something that you enjoy doing – hobo, forest ranger, Chernobyl tour guide (awesome :D), etc.

    Exactly.

I'm up for anything. I just want to stick around with the community (you guys) for the 50,000,000 years to come. I haven't worked on the back up forum for a crap-load of time. There were some technical difficulties that I was trying to iron out, such as trying to make the text white on a black/grey background (just like the forum here). I did it once, but then I changed some setting and now it's black text on black/grey background (you need to highlight the text to see what you're typing. I tried changing the settings back but something else seems to be preventing it. Most everything needs to be changed on a script-like text box and I need to go line-by-line to find the correct setting. If you all really what to secede and form our own union, I can look into it some more or I can grant some of you administrative access so you can try and figure it out.
Also, I posted some limitations the forum provides:

    d-6underground. **********.com

There are some other forum layouts the provided some greater flexibilities; so we could change over to one of those instead. I can't remember what forum type I chose, though; so I'll have to look into that as well.

    And as always, Harley:

Well, I have to take responsibility for stirring up some life and then letting it wither on the vine. Suppose it's not fair to try to start something else.

But if you guys move around, I'll follow. You're good folks.

    I'm always watching.

    That movie was great. :p

Cheers mate. :) The main problem I have is that I don't know at all what I want to do (most of my creative hobbies - sketch art, reviewing video games, writing a book - all kinda died over time for one reason or another). On top of that the family issues and general frustrations with the direction my life took have been getting to me. I think I'll stick with uni for now, I should see how I actually handle the first assignments when they come and later the exams in January, so that I can tell myself that I've actually tried if I was to leave. It's not like I really managed to get onto the course through my own skills - I got below the required results, I live in an area that is considered "disadvantaged" and has a low rate of students, plus I'm an ethnic minority, thus it's quite easy to tell that the main reason I got in was because they used me to fill their quota. But still, since I'm here, then I shouldn't let go so soon. Perhaps it will get better. If not, hopefully in the meantime I'll find something I enjoy doing and turn out to be good at or at least have potential for and simply drop out of uni before second year.

As for the forum, I personally think for now we shouldn't leave behind this one. Not only does its history and all the content that we've made for it make it worth preserving, but also the fact that it could turn out to be difficult to get the new forum even as active as this (not only would some users prefer to stay here, there's the problem with links and results in search engines too - we're the first thing that pops up in google for "metro last light forum"). With that said, if more of us who are still around want to move now rather than stay, I will gladly follow the rest of the community. And I have to say that your forum's name is much more creative than this one, Nuclear. :p In fact, for a while now I've been thinking that we should change the name of this forum to something better, something that gets the point across that we don't talk only about Last Light here but the whole Metro 2033 franchise (and anything else really). However, like I said, that would probably not be very helpful when it comes to activity as newcomers who type in Last Light Forum looking for a place to discuss the game would no longer be able to find us.

Nah man, don't feel like that. We've all got stuff to deal with irl, moreover we can't really be angry at people if their interest just dies off. Your game was fairly successful at first and it got people talking. We can only be grateful for that. ;) Regardless, it's good to know you're staying with us.

I was thinking a a metro and stalker rebrand would bring more people, lots of people still like the stalker franchise, and the roots in Russian speculative literature bring the two together

Actually I churned out three more games lately, two of which use google docs as a real-time game board, and the other an Excel spreadsheet which I built during quiet times at work. One is a tabletop space-naval wargame which is nice to look at. The other two are geopolitics/cold war related, with an unhealthy dose of nuclear weapons.

I just browsed around, trying to find the Official Metro forums, but couldn't find it. I just thought that if we were to move to a whole other forum because this place is dying, what if we merged with the official forum? It would be a good way to increase our numbers, as we'd suddenly have a whole second group to chat with. -That is, if there even are anyone at that forum anymore at all, and that is if that forum even exists anymore at all.
And even if that did work, we wouldn't have any admin previligies; no way to administrate the sub-forums on our own. :noidea:

Anyway, whilst browsing around, I found the Redux poster in its original full size, with the lower part of the picture. I think it looks rather neat. I actually hadn't seen it before; I'd only seen the zoomed-in version. Here you go:

In addition, if you haven't seen the Steam Metro Backgrounds, I have a few treats for you:
(I suggest you open these to see them in full size too, to get the absolute impression)

I guess the point I was making about the IRC/Smaller Forum is not that it would drive more activity, but it would make it much easier to manage what little activity we do have. It's not the most convenient thing to sift through 15 subsections to check for a new, correctly-organized post. The yellow icons for new posts are nice, but they only seem to last a day or so. Setting up an IRC/forum or something might be worth looking into. A Skype group would be pretty simple to start up, and IIRC most of us have that installed already.

I think they last a bit longer than that, but sometimes you have to sign in for them to display correctly. :) Anyway, I don't understand the concept of a Skype group - what would be the point? Many people wouldn't want to use voice chat and since we all live in different parts of the world and have different schedules for our daily lives, it would be even more difficult to get anything going than it is here, wouldn't it? I'm not saying the idea is bad, I just genuinely don't understand it. I almost never use Skype (the rare times I play games online with voice chat, I use either TeamSpeak or in-game/Steam VoIP - Skype is a last resort when the other party can't use those or would prefer not to), so I may just be unaware of the features you have in mind. Is there a way to form text chat groups that stay around for longer or something?
