It might actually be better served treated as a boardgame, such as over skype chat or even voice. It's far more of a boardgame than a forum game this time around.

Hybrid version of Diplomacy. A lack of playtesters means I'm not sure how effective it really is, but eh. It exists.

    :violin: *sigh*....What's up?

I've been getting back into building maps with the doom II engine, again. Mainly, I've played around by making rooms and experimenting with what I've learned. I haven't done any of my own "graphics" stuff yet; but I'm slowly getting into it. It seems fairly easy. You can basically go around, taking pictures, and import them to the game. There's also a cool tutorial that I found on placing 3d objects (I believe they're refereed to as "voxels" for doom/duke nukem) instead of the usual flat, one sided, sprites. There are several programs out there; but one in particular caught my eye and it's called autodesk 123 catch.

I'd post a video showing what it does, but they'e kind of boring and don't show much. Basically, what you do is complete a 360 degree photo shoot of the object you want turned into a 3d model and upload them to the program. The more pictures you upload, the better quality your rendered object will be; however, you're limited to 70-picture uploads. The program stitches the photos together and what you get is a 3d representation of the object(s) you took pictures of. You are then able to move around to look at the object from all different angles. It's pretty cool. My only complaint is that one need to be connected to the internet to use it and my computer doesn't seem to be able to do that. Pisses me off.

So, I downloaded a non-internet based 3d model maker (using the same concept) but, this time, the program can only display the finished 3d models with "Nvidia cards only"....and all I've got is an ATI card :(. There's apparently a way to make it work for ATI cards, but I have yet to find a guide. This sucks. I have a feeling I'll find a solution sooner or later. But, hey: If you guys can, I suggest you look into that autodesk thing and try it out. It looks like a fun way to spend time. If you prefer the offline model maker, you can get it here VisualSFM. The installation process may take a bit of reading and searching for specific files, though.

So, guys, anything new? I'm board as fu** right now. :smash:

That does sound pretty fun. And I used to have an ATI card ages ago, on my previous PC, but when it was becoming too old to play newer games with decent frame rates I upgraded to an Nvidia one. They are usually more expensive and give less performance for the price, but they are also often stronger in general and more power-efficient. Though what really convinced me to switch to Nvidia were similar issues to what you're having - everything seems to be more compatible with their hardware rather than ATI's stuff. It's actually much better and more even than it used to be (especially with gaming), but there's still a noticeable difference.

Anything new on my side? I broke like two weeks ago with that girl I told yous about. Just as I predicted, it's pretty much impossible to stay interested with so much distance and so few shared experiences (can't remember if I said earlier, but we didn't really know each other much we just went crazy for each other during my holiday). On the bright side, it was a mutual decision and there were no arguments. It was literally as though we both lost interest at the same time.

I'm gonna try it out, at my school, since the computers there use Nvidia cards. They're not like for gaming or anything, but there still Nvidia and that's all I need.

That's my only complaint about ATI. Not that ATI cards suck or anything, but, consumers do seem to go for the Nvidia cards for the reason you mentioned. I have to say that, to me, it looks like a it's a marketing thing and Nvidia is mopping up ATI with it. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but basically all of today's PC games are sponsored by Nivida in some way. If you ever look at the back case of a game, where it lists all of its requirements and shows the minimum/recommended for GPU, you'll see that Nvidia cards are the only ones shown. There's also the "Way it's meant to be played" slogan that I'm sure convinces people to go for an Nvidia instead. Lastly, with today's games, ATI users -such as myself- have difficulties getting games running decently. I believe it's because game developers purposely code their games so that ATI cards have trouble running them. And it has been spotted before. There have been a few instances where some games are almost impossible to play, with decent frame-rate, and people have discovered a line of code, in the config files, which is the culprit for the massive slow-dows. Removing that specific line opens things up and the ATI users are able to play the game with no anomalies. Meanwhile, Nvidia users experienced not a single problem, with the game, since its release.

I don't know. I'm sure ATI is soon to collapse due to Nvidia's stronghold in the PC gaming community of today. Back in the day, that's what Nvidia did with one of its rival competitors, 3Dfx. In the sound card industry, Creative Labs (which is the one that survived and is in use today) did the same thing with its big cometitor, Aureal Vortex.

    Rip Aureal and 3dfx:

Ahh, no! It sucks to hear that, man . Well, I hope that things go well whenever you do go back to Poland. I know when I tried talking to a girl I really liked in the Pre-fire fighter classes, I got her number, and later found out she was already with someone, I was quite upset.....There really wasn't a reason for me mad though; especially since I hand't even talked to her longer than what it took to get her number. Also, it turned out to be a fake number anyway  4127

I've been doing some sprite work for my upcoming Doom 2 Total conversion Project game. Can you guess what it is?........ HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN!!!! I've been wanting to make a Doom-style FPS game for this movie for a few years now. My buddy and I have talked about it for just as long and decided it's about time we make the move. I don't know how far this will go, but it's quite fun working on it.

This first bad guy is based off of this dude (from the movie):

So far, it has come along to look like this:

As you can see, not all the frames are complete and still need some adjustments (such as the boots). All I'm doing is retexturing the original monsters from doom, frame by frame, sprite by sprites. The bottom right image of the Imp is the equivalent to the top left image of the masked bad guy.

I also want to implement the code from Brutal Doom since the dismemberment system used is quite cool. Without a reference image to build on top off, my sprite work would look like stick figures :p

If anyone is interested in doing their own project (maybe even lend a hand in testing this one out once I begin making maps), I could create a separate thread with links to tutorials, programs, etc, that can help you do just that. You could make your own Metro 2033/Stalker mod too, with just a little bit of effort. There are tools where you can basically rip models straight from any game and put them into doom.

Also, please let me know what you think of my sprites so far. Are they shite or okay?
    ----------------------
ANGRY EDIT!!!! Damn it  my computer is doing it again. The images won't stay at their native resolution in which they were uploaded. Instead, they magically get re-sized to a smaller scale and can only be viewed, at a much larger scale (larger than the original image itself) once you click on it. Is it only me who is having these problems? Or is it a new feature implemented in to the forum by Harley? This is so annoying -___-

    Haha, that's great! :D
I love how you actually manage to re-texture the models, that's pretty neat. I'd love to see this fully "Converted" :D

    Thank you both :D
And I can't wait to share more of it as it comes along. Just from what I've done so far, I've come to highly appreciate the skills and accomplishments of game developers from yesteryear. They didn't have all the technology, resources, and tutorials that are widely available today. Just where the heck would you start? It just seems amazing.

Indeed. When you think about it, gaming has actually become much more accessible. Then again, modern games are technologically much more complex (though not always better), so the additional training is needed.

It's funny, I sort of "bought" The Division without even realizing. After ordering my new Nvidia GTX 970, I have now received a free key code for Tom Clancy's The Division. I guess there must have been some sort of info about that on the page when I bought the graphics card, but I must have missed it  What a pleasant surprise! I wasn't actually gonna get The Division. Everyone's been talking about it the last few weeks, but I just haven't gotten that interested. But anyway, with my new gaming rig, it might be a good idea to test it out on The Division :D

Yeah, that's pretty nice and, as you said, convenient for testing the new hardware. :D The more expensive and relatively recently released graphics cards tend to have these kinds of deals, but on both occasions when I was upgrading in the past I missed out on anything particularly interesting and like you I ended up with codes for games that I wasn't really into. I think occasionally they let you pick what game code you get with your GPU (from a list of limited choices of course), but that varies with each manufacturer and store. I believe AMD has been getting more and more sweet deals in the past few years.

Nice to see you, Aaron! :D

Well, Arnold Schwarzenegger came to my town, a few days back. He was here to buy a pair of cowboy boots and other random stuff. Some people are saying he was looking for a pair of boots for an upcoming movie. I really don't know, but, I think it's cool that he come looking for boots over here
