I'm listening to metro-music and watching awesome screenshots/wallpapers from the games, and It's just REALLY making me want to play both games again. I have both Redux games installed and ready to go, but I really want to savour the moment for when I get VR googles. Metro 2033 and Last Light will definitely be the #1 immediate top priority when I finally get them. Kinda makes me regret using all that money on a bigass gaming chair and an air rifle... :derp:

Then again, I could be able to buy it with my next wager if I sacrifice some savings... but that's not really a good idea when I want to move out for myself in September or so. I'm thinking that when I've moved out I'll finally realize how much I actually need the spare money to buy necessary things for my apartment, but I haven't realized it yet. And because of that, I want to buy the VR goggles BEFORE I move out, and rather suffer the consequences later by not having a micro-wave oven or a dish-washing machine for the first few months. Because I don't want the necessity for those items to post-pone my VR plans. Priorities in life, eh?

Then agian, there used-market is rather large, so I might be able to scrape together some cheap old things that work satisfactorily(?) enough, and get by with that :)

Hah, yeah, or else I might have to go save you :p
I have a story, about faulty old crap catching on fire, but I'll leave that until later since I'm tired and don't feel like typing anymore. Peace out *drop imaginary microphone*

4223 Yeah, it's kind of funny; VR goggles are the reason I upgraded my PC, the only thing is that I don't actually have the VR goggles
Occulus has been the one and only thing that everyone's been looking forward to and it's been my plan to get one for a long time, but just suddenly out of nowhere, other VR goggles emerge as well, and I'm kinda confused

AFAIK, Occulus is a little cheaper, and a little lighter so it's easier on the neck. HTC Vive is a bit more expensive and heavier so it's harder on the neck, but it comes with the controllers....... CONTROLLERS, MAN... CONTROLLERS!

It's my dream to complete the Half-Life series with that kind of control :)

So, anyway, I was actually planning to answer your question: I think I'm gonna get the HTC Vive because when I first am using so much money on VR goggles, I might as well go all out and get the controllers as well. I've got a feeling they're gonna be vital for the VR experience.

I think I may actually know this story, but I'll wait and see coz I could be wrong.

Are you getting the PS4,5 (or whatever they're gonna call it) for that?

@Skarra I watched the Giant Bomb stream they did on the vive and they agreed the worst part of it was not being able to see the cable and they nearly fell over a few times because of it.

@Bamul Not right away, i barely play the PS4 as is, if the PSVR comes out and it is fantastic i might think about it but until that happens i do not see the point.

Yeah, that sounds like the reasonable thing to do. I don't have a PS4 at all, and besides a few games that I'd like to try on it (most of which are actually remasters of PS3 titles), I have no reason to get one. If the PS4,5 were to come with built-in backwards compatibility for PS3 game discs... I think I might even buy it at launch. But that's very unlikely as Sony likes to remaster things from the previous gen for the money (plenty of former Xbox fans turned to PS4, so they didn't have a chance to play many of these games and are willing to pay for them).

Edit: I just read T-Aaron's post and noticed that I'm basically repeating what he said. I'll still post this anyway since I already typed it out.

Oculus has announced that they will head in the same direction as the Vive; but not until late in the year or beginning of next year (which, by then, you might already have your own place). In PC Gamer Magazine, the say that the only draw-back, to the Vive, is that there is a cord that runs down your back. If you choose to be the VR player who plays while standing up, then there's the potential of you tripping over the cord itself. Oculus has stated that their controller will be completely wireless. Just something to consider. Both headsets have better aspects then their competitor. ;)

Is it the one that has to do with a refrigerator? :p
If so, then you guessed correct. I'll make it quick then.
My parent's are into collecting vintage things. They once purchased a metal refrigerator from 1967. It was super heavy and was a pain to maneuver it into our kitchen. It ran good, for about six months. One day, my parents and I left the house, for a couple of hours, and, when we returned home, we could smell the scent of burning plastic in the air. We thought not much of it. Once inside the home, the smell of burning plastic was intensified. There wasn't any smoke visible or any obvious signs of a burning fire. Eventually, one of us decided to check inside the refrigerator, and, sure enough, a huge cloud of white smoke and speckles of flame came pouring out (this refrigerator was divided vertically into two compartments, the freezer on left and the refrigerator on the right). Once we cut the power, we checked back inside the freezer side and noticed that everything in there -food, plastic trays, metal racks- had all been melted and lay at the bottom. Taking notice to the back of the freezer, one was able to see a large hole. Inside of it, the freezer pump (which job was to keep the freezer side within cool enough temperatures to keep foods frozen) had somehow "given out" or "short-circuited" and set itself and it's surrounding on fire. The entire house smelled bad. It was just awful. It took a little less than a week to get the stench out.

I'm all for being thrifty and buying used things, but don't buy old electronic appliances from the 80's and before (refrigerators, toasters, microwaves....food stuff). I mean, toasters and microwaves are okay, I guess, just as long as you make sure to unplug them; but imagine having to unplug a refrigerator every time you leave your home. Besides, the food might end up going bad. A washing machine might not also be the best thing to get if it's "vintage." I'd say try getting electrical appliances that are no more than 15 years of age (if your buying used). Who know what condition the capacitors are like and having to replace would prove difficult just trying to find the one that is "bad."

The thought of playing while standing up hasn't occured to me, actually. I guess it's not really an option anyway since my current room is way too small. Idk yet if it'll be possible in my new apartment; I want to place my "gaming station" in the living room and sacrifice some dining-space in order to have a lot of space for the gaming station, and so I will have better space in my bedroom and won't be annoyed by the light and noise from the PC when it's downloading stuff overnight. (Even though my new PC is very silent )

Never the less, I still don't see any point in standing while playing with a VR headset, because moving around would be very limited to just a few square meters anyway. In absolutely most games you'll be walking way farther than that, so what happens when you hit the wall IRL?

I've never been a fan of wireless stuff. I bought a set of wireless earplugs for music at work, 'cause there I am in activity all the time and the cord could get in the way, so wireless is a good option for that. Yet, it's still annoying everytime it goes out of power and needs to be recharged. When I'm sitting still in front of my PC, I don't see why I would need anything wireless; my headset's wire might be a little bit annoying, but I've found a way of putting it across my desk so it's not in the way of anything, so I think it'd be more annoying to have to recharge the batteries, or worse, buy new ones everytime. Batteries aren't cheap. The Keyboard is sitting still, so that's not a problem. The mouse's cord gets trapped in a crack in the table now and then, but that's rather because of the table, not because of the mouse's cord :p

Like I said earlier, it feels weird for me to plan to buy another VR headset than Occulus, but Vive is in cooperation with Steam, which is pretty much the one and only gaming platform I use, so I think that might be a big advantage for me. Besides, I don't wanna wait until late this year or early next year to get my VR headset with controllers, so I still believe Vive is the option. One thing I'm thinking though: Won't the cable on the back be annoying when you're sitting, too? You do after all have your back against the chair, and the cord might get trapped there so when you look down, the cable will be pulled and keeping you unable to look down unless you lean your back off the chair. Kinda like when I had long dreadlocks

That's not a very good freezer, haha!

Nope, I was thinking of something else. That was an interesting story - good thing your whole house didn't burn down! I guess if there's anything decent about a fire in the fridge is that it does a relatively nice job of keeping itself contained within.

Thats the bare amount of room needed to make the VIVE turn on, not fully function just turn on, double is needed to play games

I'm sure VR is probably quite cool and it's one of those things that you have to try to actually know what it's like, but I'm not really excited about it at all right now. Maybe if I do get an opportunity to try it someday then I might change my mind.

Btw, it's been 9 days since I've sent the email to Harley about the forum issue and I'm still waiting for a response.

So even if you were to only sit in your chair and play a non-VR game like Metro, you'd still have to have the space? :twitch:
If that's the case, I simply must make it a priority to get that much space for my gaming rig in my not-so-far-into-the-future apartment.

Now that I think closer about it, there's actually not yet any use for the Vive controllers other than for VR games which I am not interested in to be honest. It'd probably be cool, but I'm just not hyped for that. But if it ever became a possibility to use the controllers in other games, like Half-Life, I would definitely get them. But there's no option for that yet, and there probably won't be (if there ever will at all) until after Occulus are releasing their own controllers. So with this in mind, together with the fact of the Vive's weight and the cable, I might do this: Buy Occulus without controllers, use it for my original intentions (Metro, Dying Light, Half-Life etc) and then later buy the controllers if they were to be needed for the possible use in other games outside of VR games.

One thing that might be a problem with that, though, is that my brother has an annual LAN-party for a weekend every December, and this time he's keen on most of us getting VR headsets and renting a locale to have the LAN party.. in VR. Then we would of course be playing VR games with the controllers. Only problem I see is, can you actually play VR games in multiplayer?

I can understand you're not excited, at least not about the VR games, but d00d..... imagine walking through the swamps in Metro Last Light.... in VR

Perhaps I should send her an E-mail as well?

@Bamul

I think you should treat this as if it were a PS1 its great, but the PS2 will shake the walls down with how cool it is. the next version is always cool

@Skaara for non-VR games you need the room as well from what the Giant bomb guys were saying, I myself am going to buy the PS4 version eventually but will not buy the PC one

I love how sony is going to put out a new PS4 after bringing out Uncharted 4 which looks amazing (Shakes head)
