Creating roofs on houses is very difficult!

I usually don't build houses above ground, because as we all know if you are on a server with people they will instantly try to destroy it. For whatever reason people get curious and have to go poking around. I would say flat, but if I am building on the surface, I am making castles. So my roof usually has a medieval look to it.

I'm satisfied having a flat roof, I feel like sometimes it takes too much time trying to create a regular one. Though after reading some comments, I may try the stair method. It seems to be easy.

 

I usually keep mine flat but that's just because I like to add more floors on top of the house, especially on multiplayer where I might be limited on space.

 

Wouldn't it hurt it aesthetically though? I'm sure no-one would like to see a very large cobblestone brick in the middle of nowhere, rather something like this?

 

Nah I use wood and I know how to make them look nice If you join my server I can show you my town, it has some examples of what I mean.

 

I used to stick with just a flat roof or I would make my house underground (kind of like a bunker). But, my sister really got into making mansions so she showed me a few tricks for making my roof. Personally, I now like to do a partial stair roof where it hangs over the edge of the house (like a ledge) but then the top is flat.

 

It's not too difficult for me because I'd usually just keep it flat. Making a roof makes it look nicer, yes, but you need to use more resources and time. Though the resources and time are small, I'm still happy most of the time with a flat roof. It allows me to make more floors if I ever need to.

 

It's a pain in the butt the first few times you have to do it, but it gets pretty easy after that. Once you have the first line across done it's not too hard from that point on. I will admit I struggled the first few times I had to do it when I started. That's why I build into a mountain and usually turn it into a castle. It's much easier.

 

I hate spending time on making roofs.. I usually just leave it flat.. Sometimes, like on a barn, I'll use steps, but that's about as fancy as I'm getting.

I have to agree on this. One little mistake on the roof will wreck everything. I have problems making it symmetric with as a whole house, it takes quite abit of time.

Put a fence on the roof, add small little blocks with lights on them. Compliment the efficient design. If not, use a slope for aesthetics or otherwise.

 

I never really bother with make a triangular roof, it takes far too much work for what you get out of it. A flat roof is just enough to keep the bad stuff out, and that satisfies me. If I am looking to build a very good looking house, then I will build a triangular roof, but most of the time i just build a flat roof to save time, effort, and resources.

 

You just have to visualize what a roof looks like.

It also depends on your house. When your finished building your house, create a cover over the house by going inside the house and covering the "roof". Then go on the roof and build a pyramid.

That's just one way to make an acceptable roof.

 

That's a pretty amazing house you have there. That's some good advice. I also think the material and color matters too to make your roof stand out.

I usually use stairs and logs to make my roofs, but I don't just do it in a triangular pattern like most people do.

 

My roof of my house is flat. I really don't bother making my roof beautiful. I'm okay with a normal looking house.

 

I use logs for my triangular roofs. They look pretty awesome, yes they do take quite a long time to create but they look way better than flat roofs.

 

I usually have no trouble with design aspects of the game. I can think of a variety of roof styles and materials off the top of my head, so it just comes naturally after playing the game for all this time.
