ahh the genes vs environment debate. There are tones of serious research on this mather. And I have read some of it. I think it boil downs to that genes can make you more exposed to surten things, like alcholisme. But environment are the most importhent thing in how a child is devolped. So no, A child can not be born evil. But on the other hand, can have genes that makes it more likely do devolop in a negativ direction.

a child that has a parant that sexualy abuse the child, has a great chanse of becoming a child molester themself. I think the research on this one topic alone, can give a good answer to the question. Have the parent some genes that transfer over to the child, or is it the abuse itself that make the child later in life abuse other children. The ansver is the abuse, not the genes.

Earlyer in this discusion, someone mensioned wars, started from religion. I realy belive most wars often has some other hidden agenda, then religion, but the religion card is used as a justification.

One of the worst religious wars in Europa was the 30 years war, 1618–1648.
This is from wikipedia, not my memory :p
The origins of the conflict and goals of the participants were complex and no single cause can accurately be described as the main reason for the fighting. Initially, it was fought largely as a religious war between Protestants and Catholics in the Holy Roman Empire, although disputes over internal politics and the balance of power within the Empire played a significant part. Gradually, it developed into a more general conflict involving most of the great powers of the time.[11] In this general phase the war became less specifically religious and more a continuation of the Bourbon–Habsburg rivalry for European political pre-eminence, leading in turn to further warfare between France and the Habsburg powers.[12]

And yes, that was THE big war between protestants and chatholics.

I'd say this. It all depends on the envelopment. Some people are born more mischievousness or greedy. But everyone is born good and not evil :)

You are a wise man, Grinder.
I too believe it is by far most the environtments' socialization that shapes a human being, with the genes are mostly, but not limited to, affecting physical traits. The environment will too shape the physique of a human through ideals and food, but a lot will be pre-determined by the genes.
On the other hand the environment is what decides wether you will be "evil" (evil in whose eyes? Are you a freedom fighter or terrorist? This is a whole other subject, but it's actually quite important in this discussion) through the media and your experiences in society.

I think no child is born good or evil, just neutral like a blank slate.

In my opinion, there are absolute truths regarding evil. Things which are in our very nature to abhor. Cold blooded murder, rape, etc.

In my opinion, I think that children are born blank. They dont have the ideas or views that adults or 2 years and up does. Why? Because they cant have a view.
Also, what makes a child/person evil is most certainly the eviroment since genes doesnt effect your choices when it comes to being generous or not. This can be discussable since there is not enough research yet on the subject. Then if a person becomes molested doesnt always make that person to become the molester him/herself since there are too many things that matters; It can be the total opposite.

What makes a person who he/she is, is dependant on SOOOO many things, that it's probably never gonna be really solved. Humans are a race that can adapt well to basically ANY condition. This makes us like claymolds where anyone can be shaped at any time, which has been shown at test were good guys turned bad (cant recall the name).

And if you're REALLY intrested in this, then you can always read the 19th century book "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" since it hits the subject quite good.
