"Finished" doesn't mean it's Gold or ready to manufacture. It can also mean the game's content is done with some last tweaks and touches to be completed, etc. A release date is definitely at the top of our priority list while we are going through all the documents and data, though.

Soundtrack: Will add this to the giant list of "what's up with this?" :)

Specs: Can't confirm the official minimal and recommended specs since I don't have them yet, but from what 4A tells me it shouldn't require a monsterbeast of a PC to run it on high settings. Having said that, I just finished another Metro 2033 run over the weekend on my poor old Core2Duo 3.0 GHz/HD4830 512MB PC and I had to run that in medium details to be playable in 1920x1200. Last Light looks a lot better than 2033, so you'll probably want something faster than that ;).

If the release window of march will be missed, then I say there's plenty of time to put the wrong things right: revise limited edition, include Ranger Mode for everyone, better presentation & goodies (steelcase with different artwork, OST on disc, Metro 2034 book, no digital in-game pre-order bonuses, etc.).

yeahhh going "gold" is what i meant. thats almost like saying that the game isnt gonna reach the deadline, if we are talking about tweaks and data, very unlikely....hope i am completely wrong, top of my purchase list LL is.

Signed up to give my two cents :)

Professor Pew, you're awesome.Very responsive and informative, great to see such involvement with the community.

Regarding the game, I preordered because 2033 was amazing. To my dismay THQ created the stupid limited edition and exclusive Ranger mode which is an integral part to the Metro experience. I could care less if you distributed this content to everyone and absolved the 'limited edition' altogether; I'd want people to play the complete experience from the beginning. Most consumers would probably feel this way and I cant see any community backlash for giving all the DLC away for free, I'd keep my preorder of course.

If it creates a conflict with the retailers, a timed exclusive might be your best option.

So stay classy and make this game as great as it can be. Look forward to more updates/release date.

I'd say that a timed exclusive Ranger mode would get around all legal problems, but from the stores that I have read the pre-order description, it simply says that it includes Ranger mode, not mentioning exclusive. So including it for everybody still does include it for people pre-ordering.

About the release date, I highly doubt they could keep the release date of March 31, seeing that they still have no idea what's going on, and it's less than two months until release. They still need to make more trailers, start the promotion and advertizement campaigns, and create a Gold Master and start mass producing the discs.

While I can't wait to get the game, I would be more than happy to wait a few more months if it means that they have enough time to release it correctly, sorting out all the problems, and giving them time to make an ad campaign. I'd much rather wait to have a successful game than have an unheard of game a few months sooner.

My idea about the pre-order bonus: Collector edition with a different box cover, a second disc with a soundtrack for Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, and maybe some printed book or something. However, I'd request that they are separated, and not combined into the same soundtrack. If this means two discs, one per soundtrack, then that would be awesome.

I'm not exactly that excited for a steelbook version.

Of course, the digital equivalent should be included for digital retailers (Perhaps pre-order to get Metro 2033 + its soundtrack as new DLC, give the extra copy to a friend if you already have it, and get the M:LL soundtrack as DLC as well.)

One thing I'd like to as Professor Pew about is if he can check to see if the PC disc version will include a Steam key? And will it require Steam? Will there be any third-party DRM or required alternate service (i.e. Games for Windows Live)? I'm hoping for a "yes" to the first question, and "no" to the latter two. If it's confirmed that we get a Steam key on the disc, then I'll be more than happy to pre-order a disc!

You do realize if the answer to the first question is yes then the second question equals yes too right? Steam is DRM.
Also even if it doesnt come with a CD key ( I hope) you can register it with steam.

I meant that my hope would be that it includes an optional Steam key, but the CD itself installs a DRM-free copy of the game.

I've got a feeling with the lack of information that the Publisher will be pushing the game back to an Autumn release.

To be honest it makes sense from Deep Silvers Perspective because:

    1. They only just acquired the game which had very little PR.
    2. Delaying will give them a chance to promote and market the game.
    3. They will release it at a time they see fit normally when the gaming scene is quiet (Autumn)
    4. They can address the issue with the Limited Edition rubbish (Ranger Hardcore)
    5. They can promote and market a "true" collectors edition and limited edition for all platforms.
    6. Since the game is near enough in Gold status as it is finished and was due to release in March under THQ's reign. They can shift the development team to work on DLC or the Multiplayer which was shelved. Leaving only a skeleton crew on single player.
    7. They need to discuss the future of Metro under their umbrella and 4A studios will be impressed by their commitment to promoting the game as best as possible and taking on board community feedback.

I say please do push back the release date if it's necessary. I don't care much for any ad campaigns - I just want the best singleplayer experience possible. Please don't make 4A Games go back to work on multiplayer, since the singleplayer should be the priority in a series like this. I'd prefer no DLC ever, unless it's all free. Obviously, please get rid of the limited edition and put ranger mode back in the game too as soon as possible... every fan of Metro will feel better once that's done.

No DRM on the disc version of the game would be amazing, but it's more than likely that you've already decided to include some form of copy protection already - and if that's the case, then please choose Steam. It is the only acceptable form of DRM to me though I'd still much prefer no DRM, as would most PC gamers.
