Do you get lost easily while exploring?

Yep, that's why I carefully use coordinates when exploring. If I really can't find my way back I'll switch to creative and use /spawn to return to my spawn point, or just die and respawn at my bed.

Nope, never thanks to Rei's minimap. It's a mod that adds a minimap in the corner of your screen, you can add way points to prevent you from getting lost.

Yeah, I get lost a LOT while playing minecraft. It really isn't that hard to get lost. All you have to do really is just walk a few minutes in a random direction and you might forget where you are. I know that happens to me since I have an AWFUL sense of direction. I am not to be trusted with locations.

Not really. I always build or find a point of reference and use a grid pattern to explore to keep me from wandering off too far. I do in the caves though also. I like the idea of blocking off dead end passages though. I will have to try that.

I get lost all the time it's not even funny! Even in real life, I'm terrible with directions. Anyways, in Minecraft, one of the things i love to do is explore and discover the vast world of minecraft. I love wandering aimlessly to places and that's where i get lost. I've made peace with my inability to remember directions and landmarks so i don't get frustrated anymore. I just keep going forward until it's time for me to hide from monsters at night and then get lost again the next day. Oh well, it's one of the fun things to do in minecraft, getting lost. ;)

I used to get lost, but now I only do when I don't leave landmarks and/or torches. If there are multiple ways to go I like to leave obvious things (like stairs and signs) to help me remember which way to go. That said, I explore caves and biomes very slowly.

I used to get lost pretty easily especially when exploring underground, but I've started to leave tons of torches to mark my way, that way I just need to follow them to get back up.
As for overland, I always built HUGE pillars there to guide me back :)

You must have a constant supply of lots of torches then!

There is nothing worse than being out in the deep ocean for almost half an hour. Haha

I'll speak for myself but I make a LOT of torches, I'm always carrying ridiculous amounts of them.

Without a map, of course, but when I have a map, I set up pillars and houses which you can see on said map (Most of you probably knew about that). But when I enter a cave or the Nether, I get lost instantly. I hate getting lost :(

Do you have an automatic way of making them, or do you just sit there for ages?

I almost never get lost in Minecraft, I have a good sense of direction. But I also make sure that I can easily find my way home if I do get lost. How? Firstly, I take a snapshot of the coordinates of my base. I use it as a last resort. Secondly, I build a tall tower on a nearby hill, so I can easily spot it even if I'm far away.
But what is you are caving? Coordinates and towers don't help you at all! That's why I use torches in a smart way. I put them on the right wall of the cave when I'm descending. When I want to come back, I just follow the torches placed on the now left wall. :) I also make sure to block off all the dead ends with dirt or cobblestone.

Same goes with me. I'm not good in exploring because I always get lost and ugh it just sucks. :/ I hate getting lost and then bothering on how to find my way back home. I usually get really annoyed by it and sometimes with anger switch off the game & computer and just don't bother to go back home at all. :)

My very first time playing all I did was get lost and I was really confused. Is there some sort of over world map or something? The game seems very open and there doesn't seem to be any centralized area where anything is.

Actually no, I never get lost. I just use the F3 key and that way I go the direction I want to. If I ever die I just screenshot the coordinates and just go back there as soon as I respawn so I can get most of my items back if not all of them. But if I were to get lost I consider it fun, more things to explore.

Yes I do if I go exceptionally far. For that reason, I either tend to stay close to my area, or try to build a road out to wherever I'm going. Whether it's with torches or cobblestone, it's one of my favorite strategies to keep from getting lost. When I'm underground however, it's hopeless for me to know where I am unless I have a mini map, and even then it's questionable. ;)

I generally will write down my coordinates somewhere, so I usually won't get lost.

The best way to play minecraft is to get lost, sometimes I go in circles and end up back at some old shelter: I always make sure to leave behind something big before I fully start abandoning where I was, though. Just for curiosity.

When I first started Minecraft, I got lost all the time. Now, I write down all the coordinates of my house, so I never lose my way back home. Most modpacks I use always have a mini-map and waypoints anyway, so I don't get lost anymore at all.
