Do you get lost easily while exploring?

When I first started I always get lost and couldn't figure out which way led to my base. As I got used to the game, i put signs to indicate the general direction to my home.

Yeah I do. My first time playing Minecraft I didn't know you can cross the ocean or rivers and I thought it was just invisible walls right there but when I did discover it I was lost exploring until I can't find my way back to my base anymore.

I am always getting lost. I've tried a lot of different things that I've mentioned in this thread, but I do still get lost all the time. I've taken to using the waypoints feature of my minimap mod. I just place one down on the map, then wherever I am in the world, it'll show me what direction it is, and how far it is.

Obviously that's a lot like cheating on servers, so I don't really use it there, but it's so useful on single player :p It's also partly transparent, meaning that it's never really in the way of anything, like, I can see it but it's not so visible that it actually stops me from doing anything. It seems get less transparent as I get closer to it.

I used to get lost very easily, but not since I have started carrying a map with me. It always helps me find my way.

Does anyone find it weird that this thread has the most replies of any thread on this website?

I get lost easily every time when I get far to get some wood logs, or when mining underground, so I type /home in chat to return back to my house!

Haha, on my friend's server I'd try to stay away from exploring too far from our HQ. If I did, I would almost always get lost and have to ask my friend to teleport me back or lead me back using coordinates. Even with correct coordinates I find myself getting lost. Don't even start on underground lairs, those things I can never find my way back in. I don't have very good location sense.

I don't get lost that easily. I'll either use a map or keep track of where I'm at with strategically placed blocks. It's not that hard to know where you're going, and it's easier to get things done when you know the map at least somewhat.

I don't get lost anymore but when I first started I couldn't lose sight of my house without getting lost. Now I drop torches so I can see where I came from. A few times in the beginning I didn't even stay not lost when I wasn't even that far from my house. My advice is to craft a ton of torches and just drop them while you go. It's like the bread crumbs from the fairy tale. Make sure you have a way to get back out from where you go. It works well inside of the caves too.

I get lost pretty damn easily as well and it's really frustrating, even though it's pretty much myself to blame. I usually use things such as torches to help me guide myself back, or if I have the mod installed, waypoints and just follow it until I find my house/base again :)

I don't get lost too often because I always leave a trail behind me so I can find a way back home. Either a trail or I used to build a huge pylon of a certain block type and put torches on all sides so that it is visible from a distance. That pretty much worked for me and it looked really awesome as well.

I've started doing this thing in caves where I put all the torches on the right wall, then if I ever need to find my way back out of the cave quickly I can just follow everything on the left. It does cause some problems when there are 2 way splits or large empty rooms but there are ways around that.

I simply memorise the cords of my base so getting lost shouldn't be a problem. When exploring in caves, I use torches and place them to the right side of the mine.

You would be surprised but yes, I'm pretty bad at remembering locations. I usually keep a compass with me but I sometimes fail to use it so I get lost again.

Yes i do, all the time. I gave up trying to be mind the geography in minecraft because I'm just really hopeless. I'm not surprised though because even in real life, I'm really bad at directions. I don't know, i guess i just don't pay attention to my surroundings. So in Minecraft especially when i just started playing it, wherever i end up during the night, that's where i build my place to hide from the mobs at night and then took off wandering again when morning comes.

I've installed a minimap mod now that'll let me install waypoints, so I can see something similar to a beacon light from anywhere up to 1000 blocks away (and if I've moved any further than that then yeah I probably messed something up).

Literally all of the time, So yeah I just started making huge massive towers that goo all the way up to the sky near my base as a site marker.

I love the open words in minecraft! However, because of this, getting lost is incredibly easy. I will be the first to admit I get lost 90% of the time. Exploration just takes you so far from where you started. Unless you tack you're coordinates it's way too easy to get lost. I personally believe building a map is incredibly essential to this game since you spend way more time looking for you're set up place than you will enjoying the game. There's a good idea, though.. if you make your first and most important build at you're original spawn it makes it really easy to recognize overtime and you'll have an easier way finding your way back.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.
