Do you think Minecraft is going to ever have HD graphics?

No, i hope not. I like Minecraft the way it is, the simplicity of the graphics and the blocks and everything are what draws me in the game in the first place. I hope they won't do that kind of major change in the game otherwise they will lose so many players.

Well, the very mods I mentioned would represent having "HD graphics" but staying blocky. Unless they're planning to hire the modders, I don't see how they could make better graphics for an eventual sequel.

I don't think minecraft will ever move away from the pixel graphics, its their brand image and changing such a popular brand would make bad business sense. Maybe adding special effects and shaders would be something Microsoft would do (also optimization and coding it in a better language) but I don't think they would change the games assets.

I highly doubt it. The graphics we see is something we are used to for a long time.

Apart from non user graphics? no, it will always be that 16 bit game we will remember. That is because they don't really have the time to deal with updating all the graphics when the community does it for them!

I really doubt it because I don't think they won't to cut out any type of clientele. Some people don't play minecraft on custom rigs or computers specifically made for gaming. More HD graphics often means more ram usage from the computer. Now if you're talking about the pixelated look -- minecraft was designed with the whole pixelated concept so I don't think they'd give it up so easily. As others have stated earlier, there are plenty of mods and texture packs out there to change the way the game looks to your liking.

The use of shaders and high definition textures can alter the feel and view of the game quite dramatically already. That being said I think Microsoft will up the standardized approach to visuals while leaving the option for more classical themed textures available.

I agree. Although it is very popular and good, Minecraft is pretty poorly optimized. You will have very weak computers that can run it fine, and you’ll have very powerful computers that struggle to get playable frames in vanilla. Personally, I have a pretty strong gaming rig that can play most new AAA games with the highest graphical settings selected. With Minecraft, I have a texture pack installed, as well as a lower-tier shaders mod installed, and I get around ~45 FPS.

I would really like for Microsoft to open up their game to more HD textures and graphical quality, if only so that they finally reoptimize the game.

I personally don't believe Minecraft creators should even consider that, the poor graphic quality of the it's what made it so special, the great gameplay along with a poor graphic quality made a great game loved by millions and this is somehow their trademark.

I... don't want it to change. There's a certain charm in this simplicity, the art style is easily recognizable and one of a kind. Leave enhancements to the mods, as an opt-in feature.

I'm assuming she meant more 'realistic' graphics.

Anyway, I hope not. Even when pretty HD and realistic 3d modelling most new games are falling into the uncanny valley. Not a trend I like.

No lol, that would deafeat the entire purpose of the game. I think that modding it to look HD is good enough.

No because of multiple reason one being that the game is based around pixels and blocks so taking that away will most likely turn off the entire community and drive sales down even lower. This could apply to any game with a specific theme. If you are playing World of Warcraft and they take away levels and add in something else completely different it would hurt the game. I believe for this reason Minecraft will always have the same general look and feel.

"HD Graphics" is an extremely vague term, so it's kind of hard to tell what you mean. Everyone in this thread assumes you mean enhancing official textures, and although it does not bear repeating at this point I will agree that changing the textures would basically be sacrilege.

Official support for better shaders and improved optimization would likely be well received, but I think that's as far as Microsoft would dare go. It's more or less in a good spot at this point, and I don't think graphical improvement is a necessity.

I don't see it would ever be in HD graphics. It is surely meant to be in the current graphics which are simple and users are comfortable with them so why would anyone change it?

I doubt it, as others have mentioned I think the current graphics are a big part of Minecraft's identity and charm, and for this type of game I don't think it should look like some complex modern game.

I think Minecraft will eventually have HD graphic or at least improve on what they have. They can't stay the same forever!
