The game is still very popular and has a good amount of active playerbase. I don't see it becoming F2P in the near future.

WoW is still really popular game although it has been released over a decade ago. I don't see that they would release a free to play version at all since they would lose money by doing so. However, there might be a slight chance they doing so but with limited gameplay so it would be like trial version of the game.

The customer service aspect is being slowly automated with online features such as automatic undeletion of items, ect- meaning that Blizzard is already cutting costs on that department. Coupled with the token system and you're already seeing the downtrend. It doesn't matter if the game has 10 years of content developed- it just means it's a 10 year old game based on 10 year old systems. People change, tastes change and gameplay changes over time.

WoW held out for a very long time because the foundation it was built on was based on the best aspects of other MMOs of the time combined into one. However the best 10 years ago isn't the best today. Guild Wars 2 is one example of a new MMO that is seeing a success in an overpopulated genre because they took the best of the new game trends, technology and packed it into one game. Sure the numbers aren't nearly as high as WoW's is currently but it goes to show that Blizzard needs to take a few notes from ANet if they want to recapture the market. This version of WoW will become F2P in a few years, it's inevitable.

It might go F2P in a few years maybe. After Blizz releases Overwatch and focuses on that game exclusively, or so. But I don`t think they are done with WoW yet, and we might see a few more expansion packs down the road before it goes truly F2P.

Considering that it's been slowly losing subscribers for years now, it probably will in the future. Though I'm not sure if it would make people go back to the game, many are just tired of it.

It won't ever be f2p Blizzard is doing just fine with the current model. If anything they will modify the starter kit version they offer till a certain level to entice new players. Who knows? Things could change.

I guess you didn't read the replies to this topic. Blizzard isn't doing just fine. The subscriber base is much much smaller than it once was. Sure they are making money, but they have lost about half of their subscriber base since peak and most of it during WoD.
