World of Warcraft is slowly declining, the fact that a Mmorpg could last this long is surprising enough.

I think Both. With every new year comes a new set of fresh gamers who cant wait to see that game their parents said they could not play last year. they one their parents said was to gruesome for them to even think of buying but now this year OH yea babay pull the ropes off and let the game begin. For reasons much like this, maybe not so embellished, but like this we have the ability for a game to grow and die all at the same time which allows for it to last as long and be as progressive as WoW has been able to do.

As mentioned, it's been in decline since Cataclysm, but I don't think it's fair to say that it's dying.

Blizzard really dropped the ball a few years ago, and not many people realize this.

After Lich King, they took some of their best talent from World of Warcraft and put them on the project called Titan. Titan was supposed to be the ultimate MMORPG.

For the majority of Cataclysm and Pandaria, we had a new crew helming things. Coincidentally, there was a lot of stagnation and bloat that slipped into the game.

We were left with what I humbly believe are more second tier developers.

I don't know if it's a coincidence, but it was last year that they cancelled Titan and shuffled around their teams. If you'll notice too, there is a huge push to revitalize Warcraft around that time. The new player models are a big example.

I think Blizzard is in it for long haul, and I think they are going to really fight to regain their growth. It felt like, over the last few years, they became complacent, and I think the overall decline in popularity is something they simply can't ignore now.

I think it's slowly dying, but I guess that's the cycle for most things in this world. You peak at a certain point, and then slowly, you just have to let other games take over. It's just the way of life. However, Blizzard seems to still be coming up with good ideas, and its other games still have promise.

I completely agree with you. It finally feels like Blizzard has noticed the decline in popularity of the game, and they are trying to fix it. However, the question is, "Are they too late?"

I think World of Warcraft is not to late to be fixed, they can still bring back a new fan base if they add enough reasonable changes but I highly doubt they will! It doesn't really matter though, Blizzard have other great games like Starcraft and Diablo III which they can improve

I don't think it's dying at all, we'll see how the numbers are when they publish the subscription numbers at the end of the year, but I have a feeling that a LOT of people came back for Warlords.

The truth is harsh but the game is dying for sure , player base is always dropping. Truth is that there's just newer more innovative mmorpgs coming out very fast and most of them are free to play lol. Archeage is a really good example, it's a very good game and supposedly it was one of the main reasons WoW player base dropped so much.

Yeah I agree. If something ever happens to WoW, Blizzard will simply move on to another project.

Cataclysm ruined the game for me. I think it ruined the game for a lot of people. If there were a way to get rid of all the desolation in the game, it might bring some people back--not everyone wants to play a grim game (although WoW should never be My Little Pony with swords and armor, either). I think that with the destruction of Auberdine and some of the "greener" areas on the game, they flipped the balance to a darker game and appealed to a more limited type of fan base.

I think the new expansian does add some interesting new elemets to the game. I agree though, the old WoW that we grew up playing was destroyed with Cata and MoP.

Yeah but I'm just hoping that they don't slightly ruin one of thier other games espeially StarCraft, Diablo III and Hearthstone whcih will cause half the player base to leave.

The truth is that you're wrong. WoW's player base has been slowly recovering, and the release of its most recent add-on pushed the numbers up considerably.

If any game took some ofthe players away from WoW, it wasn't Archeage. That game is broken in a number of ways, and loses to WoW in the others. Not even close.
