They might have made it a simple choice at the end, rather than having to find millions of, to be blunt, pointless "moral points" throughout the game. I think many people would have been faced by the choice "destroy or don't destroy" and known there was two endings. Hopefully they overhaul the moral points system in Last Light, perhaps making it slightly more logical (but please, not scientifically so).

Many games (Fallout 3, New Vegas, Mass Effect) have a numeric system for moral points, which is irritating in it's preciseness and reduction to Mathematics. If I kill this guy, it goes down -2, if I save him +2. In reality it doesn't work like that. Metro 2033 had the right idea, just needs a bit of refinement/explanation. If you're basically good, you get the good ending, while if you're basically bad, you get the bad ending.

    Sorry, long post!

Agreed but the moral point can stay, it only needs to be a little easier to find, like not to have it in cache that lies in som hidden place that you never look.
There where a choice in 2033, in the end you could choose to shoot down the laser guide although you couldn't if you didn't have enough moral points.

It wasnt that bad and the space in the midle helped ;)

On my last play-through I finally got the enlightened ending for the first time. I played how I always have and gave bullets here and there, listened to some conversations and looted any corpse I'd find. But this time when the Dark One was on the ground reaching for it, I shot the targeting system down.

It's really not that hard to get, I stole every bullet I could find and still got it with minimal effort on my part.

The biggest thing I think is exploration, and guard conversations. When you play Ranger Hardcore you naturally search absolutely everywhere for bullets, so you end up getting a load of 'moral points' despite how much of an ass you actually are. Other than that, just make sure you choose the dark one in the visions, and perhaps do at least one moral task, like putting the tape in the transmitter after the Outpost station. After that, as long as you don't shoot the dark one at the end after the vision has finished, he should reach out and say 'we want peace'.

I've seen a lot of 4A Games people and THQ reps say that only "2.5%" of people got the enlightened ending, to be honest, that makes me feel special...

But it also looks like a big heap of bull sh*t because almost every person I know who has played M2033 has gotten the good ending. I'd like to see how the devs are getting their statistics.

Yeah. Maybe they only see the European stats or the American stats... I dunno. Or possibly that tally was collected a few months after release, so not many people had experienced the game yet (I never heard of it till early 2011, never saw any posters or anything).

    Enlightened Ending Reply

When I found out about the Enlightened Ending through the Achievements section I did everything I could to get it. When I play games I am generally good if given the option and I always explore every little area. All I had to do was send the relay message and when I received it I felt accomplished.

Yes I got it after trying to get it on my 3rd time around I think It was.

Not too hard considering you don't need all the moral points.
