Healing's a different animal from tanking and dps'ing. Whack a mole with health bars, dodging crap from mechanics, managing mana and CD's- ect. Of course there's people who can do all of that and watch YouTube at the same time but it's a different perspective. Some people excel at the mechanics behind healing and others don't. I happen to suck at it because I get distracted way too much like a squirrel on crack to multitask efficiently for healing. With DPS I can camp my ass on the boss and pew pew. If I get distracted then it's not as big of a deal versus being heals/tank.

I would say playing a different role is different all around. Tanking is another kind of beast, as well, and so can dps. Sure, you can sit on a boss as dps in an easy level, but the higher the level goes(ilvl) the harder it is to not actually do mechanics. In general, a dungeon is easier, but if it's raiding, you're going to have to keep up. And that's the same for every role.

I don't necessarily have a favorite role so to speak, but I do love my Mage. She's an arcane spec and has been since her creation. I do, however, have three characters in general that I use for different situations. For example, if I am looking to run through an instance on my own to gain items or whatever, I will use my blood spec Deathknight. She is a heavy hitter and can survive a lot better than my squishy cloth wearing mage. If I am just doing some light farming, I will hop on my Lock and AOE everything around me. I guess everyone is different in what they prefer, but for me, I like to have at least one DPS, Tank, and Heals so that I can do well in every situation I am put in. Hands down, though, my mage is my favorite and always will be.

Same here! I have a mage as well(mained arcane for mythic raiding since there's only like, one fight in mythic where frost is dominant and the rest is arcane) and off spec'd frost. I've had her since Cataclysm, and I don't think I'll ever change my character preference, no matter how many alts I have.
