Hahaha, oh man, mine was Furcadia! Anyone else remember that? You just have an animal avatar, and a name, and you can program things called "Dreams". It was isometric, and pretty customizable - super simple - and really came off more as a chat client than anything else.

Mine was Runes... Well no it was actually WOW. I am surprised Runescape was the first for so many people. I mean I know its popular and everything but so many had this one as their first game? I would have thought there would have been more who started with WOW.

I think Runescape, but I didn't really "play" it. I just sort of looked at it and went "ew". No idea why, but even then the graphics just sort of didn't work for me. The first game I actually seriously got into was probably Silkroad, shortly followed by WoW back in the TBC days. Haven't really played Everquest or Guild Wars, personally.

My 1st MMORPG ever was Lineage2. That game will forever be the nostalgia bullet for me. Hearing a tune from it, the music from the warehouse/aden/starter towns make my insides quiver at the sight of so many beautiful memories.

Met my best friend in that game and spent countless hours playing it. It opened my eyes and made me understand how much I really liked gaming and how hooked I was to it.
Gaming wasn't really trendy back then and me and my friend were seen as outsiders for always talking about games and RPG things, roleplaying different things and talking about imaginary characters that we had made up to complete a play. We loved our little club and were very proud of it.

I tend to go off topic when walking down memory lane.

I just realized I'm not the only person that started playing RuneScape as my first MMORPG. Honestly, it is a really old, so it makes sense! I started playing in 2006 or so. My guy was insane, and I was actually one of the first 1000 people to get lvl 99 Mining. I was so proud of that account. It's the type of game that I don't like to brag about to my friends though, mainly because it's really not really a mature game. I think I honestly played it just because I was a pretty good grinder (which gave me the advantage over most other people).

Anyway, good times. I miss it sometimes. It's hilarious that so many people started with one though!

The first one I ever played was Runescape, it was pretty fun, but I eventually gave up on it faster than any other MMORPG I've tried out. I logged in a few months back and things were somehow even worse.

Well, like a majority of the people here, my first MMORPG was Runescape as well, although I didn't play it for long. It really just didn't appeal to me, especially when it transitioned from 2D to 3D, honestly. I think the first MMORPG I actually stuck to was Maple Story in 2003, although that was an absolute grind. But, it was fun while it lasted, before it was too cash shop dependent.

Unless you count Habbo Hotel (LOL) WoW was definitely my first fledged MMORPG.

The Original Runescape back with the 2D charachters and 3D Backgrounds was mine. It showed me the scale and depth that online games would allow for and it was an amazing thing at the time and more amazing was the fact that it all ran in a browser!

Well, it's not really a MMORPG, but it's pretty close to it. My first game was MU Online, and I was addicted to it. I was playing almost non-stop, sometimes I woke up in the middle of the night to check for parties and other stuff :)) Oooh, the memories.

My first MMO was World of Warcraft. My friend recommended me this game, he said how awesome it was so I tried it out but never quite got into it. I quit playing WoW after about two weeks.

Runescape here too! The amount of hours me and my friends put into that game! TBH I didn't put in as much time as my friends, I remember my one friend would have dreams about runescape, that he went into the wildy with rune armour and found loads of gold lol! I used to be an archer :D

The first MMORPG I played was Dungeon Runner, it's now closed, but it used to be awesome!
I was really liking it, and was pretty strong at some point but then the game just closed without any justification. :/

I'd have to say that Ragnorok was my first MMORPG I played. I was never really that invested in it, though. Everyone on there used bots or hacked and there was too much grinding involved.
Knights Online was another that I tried to play back then. Never was into that one, either.
WoW was the first one where I was blown away and addicted. It took me a few years to get over that game permenately.
