First person is more fun for me. Although when I'm using sneak or archery, I like to use third person mode, in order to get a better view of my surrounding. It can help to see around corners, for example. Something you wouldn't be able to do in first person.

Agreed, I much prefer being able to go third person when archery is involved, I quite like being able to actually aim properly that way then actually be stuck in 1st person for it.

Games like Elders Scrolls and Fallout I always play first person. I tried 3rd and can't stand it, especially when you are fighting someone or something.

It depends on what playstyle I'm using at the time. If I'm using melee I prefer third person because the view greatly reduces my blind spots and makes it easier to quickly turn around to face a different enemy. If I'm using magic or archery I'll go first person because sometimes the third person crosshair is slightly off. Skyrim is a huge offender of this. Archery on horses is impossible since the arrow always goes in a completely different direction from where I aim.

I would have loved to play 3rd person, but seeing as I was an archer that didn't work out too well. So first person for 99% of the game.

I never use 3rd person I don't like it much it feels strange and unrealistic to me the only time I have used 3rd person is when I don't have the option like in the Max Payne games and I suck at them even though they are fun!

First person was always more immersive for me. I think that third person is better in some games but just not for me when it comes to Elder Scrolls. Maybe in ESO it will have a better feeling for me.

Personally, third-person is much better for TES purely for the fact it gives a more realistic view of the game and in my opinion a more beautiful view of the game.

I myself prefer a third-person view. It gives me a clearer view of my background, so i can stay alert in case of ambush from enemies. But playing in first person gives you the feeling that you ARE the character yourself, which you can experience more "feels" when you defeat a boss, retreating temporarily, etc. It's all a matter of personal preference I guess.

I will say, I have been playing skyrim with my brand new oculus rift and playing in first person is just amazing to be quite honest, I was surprised at just how real it all felt, I loved how it as you said made it feel like you were the actual character.

I have to agree with you in Skyrim 1st person is just amazing I have tried playing it in third person and it wasn't the same to me it felt like it almost ruined the realistic approach in my opinion.

Oh don't get me wrong I still love playing in third person although with the oculus rift it really makes a massive difference to the entire sense of game play.

How bout being in third person when you are walking around and then popping in first person when you are fighting? That should make everyone happy, no?

It could work, but the constant zooming in and out of the camera angle will probably strain our eyes >_>
I don't actually have a preference, but I think if it's a third person shooter game, then sticking with third person view for the entire game is better. If it's a first person shooter game then make everything like viewing from the first person view. Or just set a option to change the camera view :p

Yes but in the case of ESO or any other Elder Scrolls game, first person is pretty much a need if you want to do any archery.

I like both. Sometimes I will use Third person view and sometimes I will use first person. It depends on the situation. If I will explore, I'll use third person view and if I will kill mobs, then I will have first person view.

I think that's the best option as well, both have their advantages and this way you take advantage of both choices.

Agreed, I like to be able to see my character. It's part of the fun to get all duded up and to be able to see yourself. Having said that I do like to switch it up to first person from time to time, depending on what I'm doing.

In this game, only 3rd person, as the 1st person FOV is terrible, I can barely feel the character controls in that. If they make a FOV slider in-game, I'll give 1st person a new chance.

Somebody mentioned that they were considering making this game compatible with the oculus rift. In which case first person will be phenomenal. First erson is usually the route I go down anyway, unless I know that there will be enemies in my blind spot or want to take a good look at the scenery.
