Actually, that's kinda true. At least in my situation. I tried out Russian voice-acting with English subtitles, to get the correct feeling of the Russian Metro, but I had to read the subtitles everytime someone talked, so I didn't get to look at their face expressions or anything around us, and had trouble shooting and running, as I had to concentrate on the subtitles. The outcome is that English voice-acting is actually more immersive to me than Russian voice-acting in the game.

Whilst it's not confirmed that is really Arytom's voice, it differs greatly from the ones used in the 2033's prologues.

I saw rats eating the body near halfway through the trailer. I wonder if they can kill you now. You hear of rats killing people during the game, but you never see it. Considering how many rats are in the Metro, it'd be scary as shit to see a billion rats charging down the tunnels at you. Hell, they could engulf entire stations. #RatRevolution

artyom is afaid of rats so he would more than likely have freakout flashbacks of his mother dying when the first station he lived in was over run by rats

Artyom was a baby when the station was overrun, he won't have remembered his mother dying. But still, I think it'd be cool. #RatRevolution

In Dishonored you can be hurt by rats, unless you give them a corpse to eat. :D

I know. I was thinking of that when I saw the rats eating the dead guy's legs. I'm like 'shit Corvo, jump on top of the cage you fuck!'

When he speaks in-between levels, he's a grizzled old man recounting his stories. Of course it sounds old. If anything the English dub sounds too young.

I know that the parts when Artyom speaks, he is an old man, but I would have prefered that he does that while he is still young. I just bothers me that you're playing the whole game with a young person and you only hear his older voice, it's hard for me to imagine, even when it's suposed to be like that.

I was very surprised when I heard Artyom's voice in the Russian dub. He sounds so much older, and far more badass.
I don't really have a preference towards either one though, my first play through of LL will be in English anyway.

Artyom talks a bit slower and he's also...i dunno... eh, it's just different. younger maybe, or perhaps more inflected.

I don't know how you're supposed to describe voices.

Can't believe that most of you play with the English dub. :p Playing with it always bugs me, when I know I can play with the original Russian voice acting and Polish subtitles (it's also a more accurate translation, since it's easier to translate more accurately from Slavic to Slavic than it is from Slavic to Germanic). Besides, it's not just more immersive for me but also quite fun. Polish and Russian can be very similar. Whilst I have trouble understanding whole sentences, I can pick out many words in dialogue which sound similar or identical and mean the same in Polish.

Anyway, the only down side to playing with original audio and captions in your own language is the fact that the vast majority of side dialogue is not subtitled (with some exceptions, such as the parts where you get moral points for listening). This means that you lose out on many interesting stories, little details and cool references to the book. Still, I completed the game four times (three times in Russian with Polish subtitles; once with English dubbing) so I haven't missed out anything. I will do the same with Last Light - first playthrough with Russian audio and Polish subs, second one in English. :)

I heavily rely on a decent translation when using English dubs, otherwise I'll be distracted from the game and wont be able to enjoy the atmosphere if I used English subtitles.

It's like in Splinter Cell Blacklist, they got rid of Micheal Ironside who plays Sam Fisher's voice over which upset some of the hardcore fans.

Imagine waking up one morning and your best friends voice changed, you'd be shocked. Or maybe Arytom's voice broke and now he sounds more masculine in Last Light. lol

I know what you mean, I'm just really surprised that any of you would start out with the English dub in the first place. Anyway, I'm not disappointed/disgusted/shocked or anything, just honestly surprised. It's nothing that bothers me though. I guess I just prefer to play in Russian because it feels closer to home as well, if you know what I mean. ;)

I play with dubs mainly because then you get all the side conversations.. Stalker was a little weird, since none of the campfire discussions were in English, and didn't have subs..

Yes that would be very cool, also works really good with the currency system. For example 10 red bullets are worth one pre-war bullet and 5 blue bullets are worth 1 pre-war bullet.
