Have you ever been hacked?

First off, it isn't getting hacked in any real sense of the word. Secondly if you use a decent password, change it often enough and or have an authenticator it shouldn't be an issue.

 

Only once have I been hacked. It was the worst feeling ever, but I didn't care much at the time. I hadn't played WoW for about 6 months when it happened. I just looked at my phone and saw the notifications saying my authenticator had been removed. Of course I knew something was up but I wasn't planning on playing again.

We all know how addicting WoW is, so I found myself logging back in after getting my account back finding that nothing was left on my character. The only thing I got back was the armor on my character, the rest of my years worth of trinkets and items had vanished forever! I was so upset, that I made another account and bought all of the expansions. That was a rookie mistake because I don't even use that account anymore. Sometimes I question my decisions...

 

I think (like other posters here) that the term "hacked" is often misused. We hear about people being hacked but the reality is they did something that compromised their account, whether it was share the info or give it to a scammer accidentally or whatever. It sucks, and I'm not saying that they deserve it of course, but it's not hacking. I've never shared my password with anyone except my husband, and that was only so I could yell "hey honey, can you log my warlock in while I take a shower?" lol. The luxury.

 

I personally have never been hacked. I was always really careful with my account and luckily had not been hacked before authenticators came out. As soon as they did come out I had gotten one for myself as well as my husband. The only time I've had problems with hackers is when I was in a guild that i co-gm'ed with a friend. They refused to get an authenticator, I have no clue why. Either way, they have been hacked at least twice. The first time they cleared out our guild bank. The next time they couldn't as GM was passed to me so they couldn't get the gold, but they stole everything from the tabs that they could. It was ridiculous. He still hasn't gotten an authenticator, but he gave up his guild bank access to prevent it from happening further.

 

Yes, I've been hacked on a game before but it's not on WoW. It was such a terrifying experience for me! I never thought it would happen to me ever. I have so many precious stuff and money on my bank and i was so scared what the hacker would do to my account. So i reported it and i got my account back. I logged in and was shocked to see my character was changed into a guy who looks like a complete hobo. My game friends was wondering what's up with my look and i told them what happened. lol it was funny in a way. I have a feeling it was one of my online bff who hacked it but i didn't asked him outright. lol oh well.

 

I actually got hacked in WoW once while my account was frozen. I have no idea how they made it playable, as I checked my bank and I never paid for it. Interestingly enough it sparked a bit of interest in the game and I quickly got my account back - they had been using my DK to farm, and I ended up with loads and loads of items left over after I got my acc back. GMs weren't bothered. They were very good at getting me my stuff back though.

 

Nobody ever gets HACKED in WOW.. what happens is the people give their account information to a fake website that looks like WOW´s website.

Like the person above me. He wasn´t hacked, instead he got an email from a fake company that said they were Blizzard and that his account was hacked, he then followed a link in that email to a website that looked like battle-net and quickly entered his account information and password. Then the bad guys got into his account.

Hacking is almost impossible with WOW. But it is very easy for them to trick you into giving them your account information.

 

I know Blizzard sometimes tends to make amateur-ish mistakes, but I don't recall having had my account stolen until now, or hacked like you imply. Of course, if we're talking about private servers, then that's a completely different kettle of fish. But generally, Blizzard's servers are safe. You can't get hacked unless you really want to and give out your password to everyone.

 

No, luckly I've never been hacked but I had a couple of friends that were hacked by some random dude and he basically left hteir account completely empty. Even the telelport stone was stolen. I must admit that it was really fun to watch ahaha.

 

Nope. Thankfully, I was smart enough to not let myself be hacked, even though there were a lot of people that tried to scam me. You just have to be a bit smart and not be gullible.

 

Actually, I can say with some certainty that none you have probably ever been hacked. But that is only because you don't understand what hacking really is. Falling prey to a phishing attempt isn't being hacked, that's just giving away your info. Being victimized as one of hundreds or thousands of people that used the same password for everything including WoW isn't being hacked either, the server at the site where you used the same or similar credentials is what got hacked. Not running an appropriate antivirus in Microsoft Windows and falling prey to a keylogger distributed to PCs en mass isn't being hacked either. Bottom line, take appropriate security measures and don't do anything stupid and you wont have your account abused. Get an authentication, use unique frequently changed passwords, install and use a real time antivirus product, and don't give out your credentials to anyone else.

 

I have. Once, before I got an authenticator. Fortunately, Blizz restored everything a few days later. One of the worst feelings I have playing a game ever. To see all the gear I had worked for gone was jarring.
