Have you ever regretted the money you sunk into an MMO when it shut down?

I never feel like I waste money if I spend it on a game, even if it's going to shut down. If I'm having fun then the money is well-invested.
There's a saying that goes like "Money you enjoy wasting are not wasted money".

That money could of been invested somewhere else though, I think about it that way. I would rather play Pay Once to Play games rather than pay a subscription and risk it being closed down soon.

This is what happened to me with WOW. Right now I am playing for free using gold and I still almost never log in.. but it made me think that probably for the past 18 months, I have been paying to play the game more out of habit then because it is fun. And ironically not long ago, I discrovered Gog.com which sells really old games that are classics. You can buy a game for $5 and get a ton of enjoyment out of it, rather than paying $15 to sleepwalk through WOW.

Been playing DungeonKeeper2 this month.. bought it for $4

That is what I actually experienced, that sums it up perfectly. In fact, even paying something like 30 dollars on Guild Wars 2 has been much more enjoyable, since it's pay one to play.

I do regret spending 100s of dollars on a game only for it to shut down, but that is the risk you take when you sign up to play one.

Back when the game APB (All Points Bulletin) had first come out, it was buy-to-play and guess who was eager to own a hard-disk copy of it? This girl. Literally two weeks later and the company shuts down, a new company buys the game, and re-releases it as free-to-play. I still have the case of the disk in my bedroom. ;~; Lol, but honestly, that was back when I was young and didn't understand the game market as well. Going forward, I'm well aware that my early access purchases could be void at any moment!
